I dont like this fight.... once cotto was sicked on gomez, its hard to watch such a ruthless, one sided beating with the guy having NO shot but wanting it that bad.... i dont like this at all.

I said the moment this fight was made that an early stoppage is in Gomez's best interest because the longer he lasts the more years will be taken off his career. I don't like being right when it comes to this but the writing was on the wall. Gomez had absolutely no chance of winning this fight and his career was drastically shortened tonight. He'll never be the same again.
Larry Merchant once made a quote in which he referred to Henry Tillman as "a frog being fed to a snake" when he faced off with Mike Tyson. He could have dusted that quote off and used it again tonight.

That was even more brutal than the beating Cintron took tonight.

No doubt.

It looked like Cotto was sparring the whole fight.. Gomez' defense sucked.. his stanced sucked.. he got beat badly.. Gomez tried to give all his heart but he couldnt do nothing.. Cotto was impressive.. Surprised they didnt stop the fight sooner

WTF was Gomez's corner thinking? The dude didn't deserve to get beat down that long. Cotto would've killed him by the time they actually threw the towel in.

Cotto was playing with him. Literally. He gave him no respect. It was like putting me in there.

It was actually pretty cool to see a cocky side of Miguel Cotto. I'm not surprised to see it now since he's beaten Mosley. The ring is Cotto's home and he knows he's a badass. Might as well show it.

Cotto's jabs are practically power shots.

Cotto showed his softer side that last round, he didn't want to hurt Gomez badly. Honestly, a very classy move.
He could of just destroyed him, and he knew it.

He did deserve to get beat down for taking this fight. But so does Cotto, this fight should not have happened. I'll give Miguel a benefit of a doubt for now. Seems like this was a stay-busy-fight for him. Hope he fight Margo next and then PBF. He wins with Margo but Floyd will have his way with Cotto.

Thus the key words, "that long".
I think Gomez's corner knew damn well by the end of the 2nd that the fight was pretty much over. They should be grateful Cotto took it easy on him in that last round. Miguel could've ruined him.
As for the fight itself, I don't have a problem as long as we don't get another stay busy fight right after it. If the fight with Margo does indeed materialize, it's all good in the end. That's going to be a hell of a fight. I know Margo's got an iron chin...but he'll need an iron stomach for that one. :yep

Gomez is a good guy and everybody likes him, but we all predicted an early stoppage and had no business with Cotto.
I agree, it became painful to watch right around Round 4, where it was just punishment. Hopefully Gomez walked out with a very good bundle of cash at the very least.
