one mre thing all around the same weight, shows how good aussie boxing was getting these last 2 years, when you have 5-6 genuinly top 20 guys in there respective division...
Sad day to see him retire..... but best of luck to the future, Paul can hold his head up high the fights with adamek inspired everyone

He probably was only going to continue to get a deserving payday against Mundine. With Mundine running down to middle weight, and green retired, he must have decided their is nothing that is going to pay him enough to continue.
Good luck to him.

Paul has officially retired from professional boxing from today! its been about 3-4 weeks since paul and i started training with majority of the work being conditioning and just this week we begain sparring. Over the last 2 weeks ive had subconcious thoughts about paul in training that he's not responding how i think he should be which was confirmed this week in sparring.
There were rumours as to Pauls health problem regarding his nervous system and i can verify that there is a problem there as ive seen it with my own eyes! it's something most of us cant understand as it hasnt happened to us it affects his overall body mechanics to where he's so filled nervous tension that his body cant respond eg being able to see things and react to it.
After seeing this today i had no hesitation in telling Paul to call it a day as he also knew it was anyway!
Paul gave it one last shot and was dead serious which could have been fatal as we've seen in to many cases over the years, its now Pauls turn to sit back without any doubts in his mind and bask in the glory of a fabulous care
er and be healthy and excited about the new chapter in he's life.
From his trainer...
Glad to hear that he had good people around him giving him honest advice. Nothing worse then having yes men who send you out to get publicly slaughtered. If he wasn't performing in sparring then its not going to be any better in the fight.

Bugger I didn't get to see him box in person BUT family and health come first so all the best to him.
I wonder how Nathan is coming along with ****** training him, we should see the results at Nathans next fight.

But it is for the best, he has had a very long fighting career that he should be proud of.

It's a shame when one of your favorite fighters hangs them up. But when it's for health reasons it's hard to complain. Well done Paul, awesome career.

Damn shame, was really hoping I'd get to see him fight again.
Nothing worse than having the body fail while the mind's still willing, unless you actually make it to a fight. Best we remember him for the great battles he fought.

This is sad, yet happy news for me.
It's sad to know that he'll never be boxing again. I liked supporting him, and there was no other boxer out there that I wanted to see win a world title more than him.
However, it's good to know that he wont be placing himself at risk. His health issues have been a problem for some time now, and if he was to fight again there would always be that feeling in the back of my mind hoping that something wouldn't go bad. Now it never will, at least not in the ring.
Paul has a lovely wife and children and he is a fine commentator. The foundation is there for him to enjoy the rest of his life.

Hey westside that little newbie is was pauls trainer and i garantee he has more knowledge of boxing in his little finger than you do in your whole body! I suggest you do your research 1st before making a fool of yourself on a forum!

no, ill dumb it right down for you.
Paul Brigg's retirement has been announced in ONE place only. On a 'small-time forum (on the scale of things) by someone who is not known as paul's trainer. as opposed to someone on here like gloveup on here who we pretty well know for sure is dino billinghurst.
In the media, this would call for it to be reported as 'alleged'.
i believe it, but i find it interesting that it has been listed ANYWHERE else. I'll stand corrected if its shown anywhere else.
I wont be giving closing congratulations to briggsy based on that post only. Its just not strong enough. (but that doesnt say i dont believe it)
to go back to the journalistic thing, If i was a boxing reporter.. i would not be reporting a story that briggs has retired just because of that post. you would verify it.
feel free to respond without a personal attack.

westside,no disrespect to you orpaul at all, but the reason it was only postedthere and not recognised by even smalltime media is the fact that it really isnt big news.paul had a lot of hardcore boxing fans, deservedly, but failed to make any impact or even small ripples on the mainstream media or public.all the best for retiring paul, hope your future brings you happiness and satisfaction.peace
Shame, he was one of the most exciting Lightheavyweights in recent memory...also one of the biggest hitters, and sadly may also be remembered as one of the best LHW's who never won a world title.
All the best Briggsy!

go back and read or your posts on this thread, your coming across as a very negative person just let it go!
not at all..
i originally said i dont not believe it, it just had me curious.
and the fact this forum is relatively quiet, means it looks like bring it up a lot.. but i guess that clearly there never going to be ANYTHING, ANYWHERE mentioned about it.
