I hear that Rocky Marciano threw an astonishing number of punches per round. I have several of his fights and he does throw a lot of punches. Have people counted his punchers? How do other heavyweights compare?

If we do not take into acount length of fight then Nelson Wolgast takes the record.

An average of aprox 85 punches per round per fighter over 42 rounds.

Not bad.

I think Ray Oliviera set the record in his fight with Vince Phillips...but I could be mistaken- it might have been sucre Ray who set the record.

Also I know Troy Dorsey and Kevin Kelley had a high punching volume in their 1992 clash.

With 371 punches thrown by both in the final round alone! More than 2 punches every second of the round.
