...why has he underachieved so much, even putting his bad chin aside...?
This guy had the talent to be much better - one of the best current HWs, right?, and that's not saying much, so what's gone wrong?

He has no heart or desire or bottle to fight. All the other tools but he lacks these qualities.

Lack of motivation.

Audley would love to put his bad chin aside! Maybe then he would be a contender instead of a mug.

IMHO as a pro he had it too easy, too quicky. He was never a 'hungry' boxer.

...in that case, he's fucked.

Lack of motivation?
Why? He doesn't like the colour of money?:huh

I like the guy even though most do not. He could still be a contender, he is not over old for an heavy and has not had an hard career. We could see him fighting for another five or six year if he comes back competative. I hope he is now focused and ready to right the wrongs in his career, he had a huge wake up call with the car crash.
P.S. Good to see you back. :good

At HW you can't put the bad chin issue aside. Also he doesn't punch his weight. Harrison is a huge man so he can hurt other fighters, but for a man of his considerable size he doesn't punch hard enough.

But he has the skills to outbox them...why doesn't he?

He had one good performance against Williams. Nowt much else!

I think he can punch hard but instead of going for a KO he and risking getting hit he just prances around kinda like a poor mans Wlad.
I think the biggest prob Audley has is he does not like being hit in the face by people. Neither do I but when you are a boxer it can be a problem.

Believed his own hype at the start of his pro career, should have gone with ****** then and concentrated on training instead of being a celebrity. He must have good skills to win olympic gold but he hasn't developed enough since then.

Exactly. You can't call a man a coward if he steps in a boxing ring. But he is too hesitant and fearful, McGuigan was scathing in his opinion of Harrison after one of his fights (I can't recall which one) and rightly so.

You can call a boxer cowardly, though...by the standards of boxing, just like you can call a sprinter slow, by the standards of sprinting.

So was Nigel Benn.

I take your point, I just didn't want to start all that up again, when SleazeNation branded Calzaghe a coward the other day. The difference between Audley and somone like Enzo Mac is that even though Enzo was bricking it against Haye (in most people's opinion) he still had a go, Harrison just turns into a pussycat and tries to survive.

I still don't like that word when applied to boxers, its too personal, abusive and absolute. I don't think you can be a relative coward like you can be relatively slow.

I though this was settled the other day - un-brave.

Well...there are cowardly career soldiers...so...
cowardice like guts is relative, like beauty...etc.
You can be an ugly miss universe contestant...compared to the others...
...etc.
you can be an unfit marathon runner...compared to the others...

But in those situations would you use the words "ugly" and "unfit"? They arn't words that lend themselves to be tempered, most people use them as absolutes. You either are or you arn't.

I think one of the main problems was the hype, he believed it and thought he was the best BEFORE he'd even fought as a pro. The million quid deal didn't help......

IMHO as a pro he had it too easy, too quicky. He was never a 'hungry' boxer. He was made a millionaire before even offically turning pro, the BBC invested in him heavily and he was top of the bill and living off his olympic glory. Suffice to say it all went to his head he suffered delusions of granduer and was never actually a "fighter" in the 1st place. In my opinion his just a classic right time right place guy who capitalised on his skills in order to make some hard cash. I dont think turning pro was even on Audleys mind before he went to the Olympics.

I literally fell asleep in my recliner and when I woke up Tom Jones was being interviewed. I haven't watched it back yet but from the first 2 rounds I'd say a top HW would have Audley out of there early doors.
