I know it's a tired debate, but the JC-BH undercard doesn't
come close to competing with the Preliminary Card
for ufc 83. I'm not abig fan of the ufc, but boxing promoters
don't give a sh*t beyond the Main Event.
Thomas & Mack Center, Las Vegas, Nevada, United States
Bernard Hopkins Joe Calzaghe 12
David Lopez Ryan Davis 10
Nathan Cleverly Antonio Baker 8
Audley Harrison Jason Barnett 8
Danny Garcia Guadalupe Diaz 6
Hylon Williams Jr. Marcos Mendias 4
Jermell Charlo Jesus Villareal 4
Daniel Jacobs Leshon Sims 4
UFC 83
Main Card
Matt Serra vs. Georges St. Pierre
Rich Franklin vs. Travis Lutter
Michael Bisping vs. Charles McCarthy
Mark Bocek vs. Mac Danzig
Kalib Starnes vs. Nate Quarry
Preliminary Card
Jason MacDonald vs. Joe Doerksen
Jason Day vs. Alan Belcher
Sam Stout vs. Rich Clementi
Jonathan Goulet vs. Kuniyoshi Hironaka
Brad Morris vs. Cain Velazquez
Ed Herman vs. Demian Maia
Yeah, the UFC card will be far more entertaining, but Hopkins/Calazaghe will probably be worth the wait. It might not be the most entertaining fight, but for hardcore fight fans, it's going to be a doozy.

I agree completely, JC-BHop is a great matchup. It's just that the undercard is a joke. The UFC puts effort into having competitive fights with good fighters from the prelims to the main event. When was the last time you could say that about a Boxing card?

Yeah, I hear ya. I'm a pretty big boxing fan, too, and I haven't even heard of half the guys on that undercard. With the UFC undercard, I've heard of at least 90 percent of them. Of course, they've got a smaller pool to draw from, and don't have to dick around with promoters.

Except for Calzaghe- Hopkins will be a boring 12 rounder. I'd rather watch grass grow and endure 12 rounds of Hopkins...

I'm watching the UFC live, and recording B-Hop/Zag for later. I already know that Joe is going to win by throwing 2000 punches versus Hopkins 100, so I'm not really expected a thriller there.

Now Serra time!

don't get me wrong dude. i like the UFC but i like boxing better. is that a crime?
The Hopkin Calzaghe fight was terrible. i love boxing but man what an awfull display of boxing that was. One guy came to hustle a win by throwing anything that resemble a punnch and the other guy was looking for any excuse to get a DQ instead of boxing.

The boxing and the UFC were painful to watch.
Do the MMA fighters even train? Those guys looked gassed after 1 round of fighting, talk about amateur hour.

Some gassed worse than others. Lutter, for example, looked completely out of shape. But MMA is slightly more taxing cardio wise than boxing, since you exert a lot more energy wrestling than punching. Also, the rounds are longer. Boxing is more endurance over the long haul, but MMA requires more quick burst energy. I wrestled in the past, and can honestly say that no amount of training and running up hills can prepare you for just how physically taxing it is to pit your strength against that of another person for a couple minutes.

Well, Lutter is just horrid with gas tank. I don't know what he's thinking. I wouldn't even come out to an amateur fight if I knew my conditioning was that bad.
But like TKO said, wrestling on the ground take a LOT of you its very demanding. Basically, imagine a 400 yard dash but with every muscle in your body. You can't last long. It's impossible, unless you're Sherk and been taking "supplements".
