Truthfully, I find the guy excruciating to watch. He is crafty...no doubt, clever, good chin, good D
but when he didnt at least attempt to follow up on that KD in the first..I was saying..typical Hopkins. The man just dont punch anymore..hes become too smart fo his own good in there
This aint the first time. Hes lost twice to Taylor..people seem to forget that..horrible fight again he didnt do enough...Ive rewatched a Jones fight and his style was the same..he cant let his hands go...Although his output was never as low as tonight
The man just lack aggression, Ive never seen this guy on attck mode
he is the epitome of a hard man to make look bad of and to me that just aint enough.
And he is also a huge guy! Whats his greatest win??? Tito (semi prime) Oscar? Winky? These were all mismatches. Nard is bigger than Calzaghe!
The man squeezed and took advantage of the little talent he has, I commend him for that. His dedication and the way he takes care of his body is admirable.. He maybe an ATG a sure HOF but man..rethinking his career, over 10 years defending against avg opposition..I dont know if hes really that great

Bernard is one of the greatest fighters who has ever lived. Watch his fights against Johnson, Lipsey, and Echols.

Ugh... seriously. Go to boxrec. Watch his fights. He is an all-time great, and he is one of the best STILL, at forty-three years old.
KO12 Trinidad, KO9 De La Hoya, two close controversial decision losses to Jermain Taylor, W12 Marvin Eastman, L12 Calzaghe (put him down), W12 Tarver, W12 Wright, TKO7 Allen, Segundo Mercado, .... do I go on?
I could, but I won't. Because his accomplishments are so numberous. TWENTY title defenses as Middleweight Champ (eventually undisputed).
Then at forty-two he wins the Light-Heavyweight belt and defends once, despite the odds?
He's great. No doubt about that.

The knockdown was just a flash knockdown, Hopkins knew Calzaghe was not hurt. Hopkins did hold way too much and tried to fake the low blow situation. Hopkins was ring wise enough to push/tackle Calzaghe to create the knockdown/off balance, but not hurt in anyway. Calzaghe tried to make the fight while Hopkins held.

I loved the second fight with Echols.

Same; one of his best performances. Showed a bit of everything. Night and day compared to the 43 year old, but still top notch, fighter today.

I still think he's great to watch at 43... I mean, how many fighters could compete at his level at his age, EVER?
The guy looked great tonight (considering the circumstances), despite losing, imo.
He wasn't getting hit with clean punches, he wasn't getting beaten up, or anything of the sort. He certainly got beaten by a younger, fitter, faster and on the night, better fighter.
It says something when your more impressed by the losing fighter (although I might be in a minority there, not overly)

Not sure if it's smarts, age, or what but it is what it is. In his losses against Taylor and Calzaghe he was outworked by guys he showed (in spurts) he could outfight. Whatever the reason, Calzaghe did what he had to do to win. I can't say Hopkins did all he could (perhaps should. I could be wrongfully assuming he could)do to win.

Yes.
But recently it seems he only does just enough to lose.

He just doesn't pull the trigger enough anymore. It's happened in 3 of his last 5 fights. I still think he could beat a good deal of guys at 160, 168, and 175.

Younger Hopkins was fucking amazing. He's still great but a shell of his
former self.

Ive seen all his fights..like I said..He doesnt make me go wow like other ATGs...I cant take the Tito and Oscar fight..its embarrassing.. Hopkins should have been fighting at 175 all along...He is humongous!!
He dwarfs even Calzaghe. As for his reign, i mentioned that..the MW division was just not deep around his time..Its just me Im sure..I just find him not exciting. Some would argue that Sweat Pea or Floyd is boring but they dazzle you with their talents.
But what kills me about Bernard is hes gotten too cute in there and yes he old but hes been at it for 5 years..hes starting to think that what he does in there is what the judges want to see.!
Which is why he never loses and always complains. You have Joe down..show some aggression..I think he was thinking too much and gave Joe too much credit

It confuses me how fans expect Bernard to be Arturo Gatti at 43 years old???

I do agree with your final statement- who knows what would have hapenned had Hopkins jumped all over Calzaghe after flooring him.

Hopkins knew Joe wasn't hurt, so he played it smart and looked for counter punching opportunities.
He was a big underdog against Trinidad so you can't speak bad about the performance. The skills he has displayed throughout his career are among the best I've ever seen. Versatility, adaptability, technique, defense, movement, counter punching skills, variety - I mean, Bernard has it all. And at his best, he was a better fighter than Floyd Mayweather.

And you will also agree with this..Only Hopkins will throw two punch after that KD for the rest of the round..
I mean I know youre trying to be cute in there but if youre really thinking you should know that you dont give a slow starter liek Joe a chance

That Trinidad fight, everyone was smelling blood..The size differential was huge..frankly it was an execution. Like I said, Im not a Floyd fan..Its just me..I just dont prefer Hops style..losing lately with THAT style is just nnot good..Its another thing if he was winning

Hopkins is an all time great fighter who has not fought a great fight in years.
I said it before the fight, I'll say it again: A summary of Calzaghe's career:
Beat an old Eubank ---> 10+ years of fluff ----> beat (didn't destroy, either) an even older Hopkins.

He is religious about the one-punch-at-a-time theory. Sad. He won't win KO's that way, he won't win UD's that way.
I wonder if he retires after tonight. I doubt it, but it's possible.:bbb

Ohh I agree, Im being objective here..I pick Hop prime for prime..Its just frustrating to watch his style lately and it has cost him fight because frankly..all you have to do is flurry and you take the round..not smart

With a couple of young undefeated fighters in between, during the fluff years.

He had Joe right there..Joe wasnt terribly hurt but it took a couple of seconds to gain his wits. Had Hop just flurried right there it could have been his greatest ever performance
