View Full Version : Margarito-Williams, Who do you think won?
Williams got the UD, but some folks believe the decision was wrong. I am not one of them. Please share your thoughts (or just vote).

Williams UD.
Williams dominated the first half and Marg's second half surge fell short.

Williams easily won 8 rounds, possibly 9.
Anyone who thinks Margo won is off his rocker!

I just watched the replay of the fight, and for anyone who did not see it- Williams won the fight.
Some of the rounds were close but he used his jab and outscored Margarito through volume of shots. Margaritos best round was the 11th, but Williams clearly won the 12th. He won the 12th because he was the better fight and not because Margarito put his foot off the gas because he thought he had won.
I had williams by 116-112.

Good win for Williams. Lets hope he rides this to another big fight.

It was a pretty easy fight to score since there was really a clear winner in every round. Williams won more rounds so he wins the fight. I think there is no doubt that Margarito hurt williams a lot more than williams hurt him though

Again, I had it 8-4 for Williams. I cant see it any closer then 7-5 for Williams.
He easily won 1-5, the 8th and 12th. Those are definitely Williams rounds. I dont have my scorecard with me so I dont remember what other round I gave him but I know I had it 116-112 for him.
Anyone saying Margo won is tripping.

Williams dominated the first 6 rounds, Margo only clearly won around 3-4 rounds max. Margo was finally exposed as an average over hyped b level fighter!

geeze lance... 'Margarito by TKO. Corner stoppage in 9. '......some would think you were a little more insightful with 15 000 posts....i guess i was right!
And you are never wrong with your picks?:patsch Time to grow up.
You're still a disrespectful newbie son. You love a boxer, not the sport.

Don't be too hard on him, Lance sucks at picks, he always picks the loser.
You've never made a wrong pick? Fuck man.....this board is too full of asshole like you who think they know it all....
Williams got a good win. And all you can do is act like a prick.

Hey, I can't fight the fight for the man. He has to do that himself and last night he simply didn't.
I'd like to see a rematch though, because I'm still convinced Margarito can beat Paul. He just can't sit on defense for half the fight like he did last night.
I won't piss in your cherrios. You must have been happy as hell last night.
But you are a newbie to even suggest Mathysse is anywhere near the caliber of Margarito. And last night Cintron knocked his ass cold. What did you think of that? :yep
Not a big Williams fan at all...but he did win that fight clear as day. Margarito was talking out of his ass when he said he was robbed. Sure, Williams didn't hurt him, but he outworked him. Margarito waited about 8 rounds before he started to fight and land some heavy shots. If he would have started earlier, he could have perhaps even stopped Williams. But you don't win by smiling for 8 rounds in this business.

no i am never wrong. because if i know if a fight is too close to call i dont predict a winner. i just say 'so-and-so' has an advantage over another. but come on. williams was obviously going to win this
So you're a little pus.sy then? You only make a pick on a sure thing? Wow...you REALLY know the sport...:patsch
A couple folks voted Margarito?

116-112 Williams...nothing else makes sense. Margo just didn't do nearly enough.

yeah i do actually....clearly more than you. of course i only make a pick on a sure thing. why would i pick on a fight that i wasn't sure of?
i am not sure of b-hop vs winky.....
but i think b-hop has the definite edge -size and experience with southpaws. plus he hand picked wright so it makes me beleive he has the answer to b-hop right.
however i will not say b-hop will beat winky like i said williams would beat margorito because the decision in picking williams over margorito was so blindly easy to pick.
 Wow....you're such a tool. You think you're making some great point huh?
"I only make picks on sure fights.." Fuckin newbie...:rofl

First off . . . I'm one of those rooting for Margarito . . . it was a close fight and Williams earned his victory.
If only Margarito found his range early it could have been different. :yep
Ha, 6 for Margo now. Will these people explain?!

I had it 115-113, which is only a round different than what most people are calling. On my card, if Williams hadn't have come on strong in the 12th, it would have been a draw. I think Margo genuinely though he had him out in the 11th.
Williams outperformed what I thought he would be able to do by quite a bit.

i think the right decision was made.
which is good for boxing i mean if this fight was scored a draw or was given to Margarito it would have been another bad thing for boxing.
so at the end of the day the right decision was made.
Williams won the fight.

Could have gone either way. Williams threw a lot more punches, but Margarito did all the damage. Scoring round by round, I gave it to Williams, but only an idiot would say that Williams dominated.
We got 9 for Margarito, but none have explained why. :huh

The last round is what Tony needed for a draw, he didnt pull that round out, so Paul won the fight, but he barley won it having every single advantage Paul barley got the win.
its okay though I am sure Margarito Cotto will still go on much the way Judah Mayweather did after Zab lost, much the way Morales Pacquiao did after Morales lost, no different here, and the WBA title means more, I still think Tony is a top level fighter, and soon enough Mosley will be out of the mix, the top five look promising, though I dont think Williams will be around much longer he is just too damn big.

I watched the fight with a buddy of mine who isn't the biggest fight fan in the world, but enjoys a good fight when he is over my house.
I had it 8-4, he had it 7-5, both for Paul Williams.
All in all, it was a close fight, but Williams deserved to win the title in my mind.
A rematch would be great and we would probably get to see Mosley - Cotto, but if they go ahead with Cotto - Margarito, thats fine.
