View Full Version : Who should Oscar fight after Forbes and before Mayweather?

Oscar says that he plans on fighting 3 times this year ... I don't think that Forbes is going to last long ... and I don't think that Oscar's going to take much punishment if any. Forbes is a blown up light welterweight and shouldn't pose any threat to DLH.

Now if Oscar gets rid of Forbes early and still looks fresh afterwards ... who should he fight next? and should it be an actual WW titlist?

De La Hoya really should be fighting Forrest this September instead of Mayweather.

vernon forrest Too risky, A loss to Forrest could cost him millions in a rematch with Mayweather.

Go for a Contender sweep and fight Ishe Smith.

I dont know but he should fight Margarito in LA and make it an all out mexican brawl to go out with his balls still hanging after the Mayweather fight. I dont want to see ODL go out hurt the guys a good guy and a descent fighter but i dont think mayweather or forbes will even scrape the guy, so pretty much he would be in perfect form to fight Margarito.

In between fights ... he's fighting in May and if he gets past Forbes easily that could leave room for another fight against a credible opponent ... he's using the fight with Forbes as a tune up and I don't think anyone expects much out of Forbes.

Maybe a fight w/ Clottey for the vacant IBF belt ...

Could be hatton. De La Hoya said he wanted to fight hatton before the mayweather fight for around may next year. I think if hatton wins a few fights and proves himself again the we could see hatton vs de la hoya next year.

DLH's schedule for 2008:
#1 Forbes in May
#2 Floyd in September
#3 retirement fight in December

There's no fight between Stevie and Mayweather.

i'd say fight tito then call it a career.. a second fight vs. mayweather would be a complete wash imo.. i think floyd could possibly stop oscar this time

Floyd's not stopping Oscar, You can BANK on that:deal

DLH should cap his retirement with the winner of Cotto/Margarito(hell even the lose of that fight will do)

If you were DLH, would YOU fight Miguel Cotto?

Or even Margarito who is just as big as you with a punch output that high?

Better to fight Mosley and pretend like its a serious fight and then retire lol.

Why not, those fights would be huge and a possible victory would do tons for his legacy. Cotto and Margo are nothing DLH hasn't seen!

I guess I'm thinking as a boxing fan!

True enough, Hoya has seen fighters like them. And 10 yrs ago, my guess is he stops both (Cotto is only getting better though). But now?

As a boxing fan, I want DLH to retire. If I were DLH, I would fight someone like Forrest or Mosley and not risk fighting Cotto at this juncture.

I do see your point though.

Oscar would beat Forrest easily, IMO. What he should do is go back up to middleweight and challenge Sturm again and try to get even for licking he took in their fight. But that is probably stretching it a little too much!!

DLH lost to Sturm, but the reason was obvious. THe guy was visibly out of shape and took Sturm for granted looking past him towards the Hopkins fight. And the judges scoring this fight might have done the same thing!
