As you can see I'm the guy that wants to start boxing at the age of 27.. I'm about to start my journey... Right now I'm 6 ft 177 lbs and if I fight I would like to fight around 160 or so.. would like to fight at middleweight... So I have a couple of questions.. First sauna suit they say don't wear for intense workouts- I wanna run on a 5 miles a day on a treadmill.. Is this ok to do? Secondly I've been lifting weights for the last 2 months to train for football (which I have given up to box) I'm hearing that weight lifting isn't the best.. Should I change my workout regimine?? I'm not gonna actually step foot into the boxing gym until the fall comes around so I wanna lose this weight and cut my body up b4 september... Any suggestions??? Dieting, cardio, weights, calories to take in, anything will help.. Thank you!:happy :bbb

Personally people who wear the sauna suits without having to make weight like the next 1-3 days annoy the shit out of me. They help you lose water weight, but are not really worth anything in the long run seeing as how you would have to rehydrate right afterwards.

well dam! thats alot of running. The best thing to do is spar it helps so much. eat a healthy diet, but i wouldn't go over the top. I personally don't do weights, but i might start also. It depends how serious you are. have you ever boxed before?

Me too. The only time one would ever need one of those suits was if you were desperate to make weight the morning right before weigh in. Dehyrating yourself for no reason sacrifices fitness and is dangerous. Sometimes I thinks guys just do it because they think it makes them 'a boxer'. It's just stupid.

5 miles a day is very good thats all u need to do for cardio considering your gonna get the rest of it in the boxing gym...
as for lifting id lower it down to 1-2 days a week and focus on body wieght exercises (pushups, dips, pullups, situps, etc) as they'll build endurance and strength
diet wise you dont have to go to crazy just makin sure your getting in a good amount of protien everyday (150-180 grams for your weight) and no junk food
and if your trying to make something out of boxing career wise, id suggest you get in the boxing gym before fall... get in asap and good luck

Thanks for your advise everybody especially ^^^^^^ for the detailed advise, but I do wanna know about that sauna suit... Is it ok to run 4-6 miles in it 5 times a week? And the other thing I think I'm gonna stop weight lifting 4 a month or so an try the old boxer thing with the pushups, situps, etc, but my question is how many do you guys feel is needed with these workouts? With the pull ups and all that should I be doing these workouts daily or like weights switch up body parts? I'll probably weight lift mon and thu for leg day and everything else hold off on...

No sauna suit or sauna or anything related to taking less water. You should get built up totally and lower your weight naturally through exercice. When your around 165, then you can think about dehydrating and eating less 1 week before you fight. Anything more will make you weak for your first fight, and i ASSURE YOU, you never want to fight your first amateur fight after major de-hydration(weight-in not one day before, but just before the match).

Find yourself an old fashioned boxing trainer who believes that you should get in shape the old fashioned way. It worked well enough for Joe Louis, and it will work well enough for you.

Weight lifting is not bad for you, if you do the right lifts correctly. Obviously bicep curls won't do shit for you, but squats, deadlifts, and bench can give you some power.

If the guy wants to use weights he can. Don't try to force your opinion onto others.
