I think he would have done, Calzaghe has gone backwards his last 3 fights, his pace is going.
If Hopkins was younger and in his prime....
 :patsch
You do realise that Hopkins is a lot further removed from his prime than Calzaghe?

pace and reflex's are the first thing to go, both of which Calzaghe relies on.

I think Hopkins will go down in history as one of those guys who would be just about impossible to stop.
He really does have a good chin and his D & spoiling tactics are well documented.

Yes, and Hopkins in his prime out-punched just about all of his opponents. It's only in recent years that he's had to slow down his pace to adapt to an aging body. I'd like to say age wasn't a big factor but the guy never had any stamina problems and was one of the few you thought could have easily be advataged by 15 round fights.
BTW there was nothing wrong with Calzaghes' pace, Hopkins used a lot of spoiling tactics and counter punches to slow him down. I agree that he didn't look as sharp as he usually does, but then again I think Hopkins wasn't eitehr and gassed out, and got sloppy early on.

I dont believe so, I believe he has slowed over the past 3-4 fights, even against Kessler he seemed a little slower than what I define as his 'prime'.

A bit slower, yes. But he still throws the same shitload of punches so his punch rate is still just the same.

Sorry....but both men put up piss poor performances....I was not impressed with either man. I can see how Joe won due to his activity...but Hopkins pussy footed around the ring too. Joe's a good fighter I just don't rate him much. Sorry fellas but that's just my honest opinion. One thing that did impress me was the fact he was able to overcome the intimidation factor he grew balls in the fight when he knew Hops could'nt keep pace. Then again the fucker is 43yrs old and still hurt Joe on a couple right hands. Other than that I thought the fight kinda sucked.

calzaghe in his prime was a knockout artist(dropped eubanks in the first rnd), so I can see it happening.

Is Calzague already removed from his prime?
I think he is still riding it.

No, if Jones couldn't take out Hopkins how can you expect Calzaghe to.

In both the Kessler and Hopkins fight it has been noticeable that Calzaghe has started quite slowly, taken until the 4/5th round until he has started to find a ryhthym. It shows how intelligent a fighter he is that he was able to turn both fights around, but he is 2-3 years past his physical prime.
It will always be a pity that he wasted the time between 28-33 fighting some very average opponents.

No. After feeling a prime JC left hand Bhop would be even more defensive. Hopkins is one of those few fighters who is too tough and too savvy to ever get stopped.
IMO calzaghe was a harder puncher when he was in his 20`s but i do not beleive that he would have ever stopped hopkins.
