View Full Version : Hopkins fans should be good sports and admit Joe won

I've seen several polls around the internet asking who won the fight, and the results show that some 75% to 85% of observers think that Calzaghe won the fight.
I rewatched the fight yesterday, and my own result was the same as the first time: 115-112. I was trying to be as generous to Hopkins as possible.
I understand some people are big Hopkins fans, and they are very disappointed and perhaps hurt because their fighter lost. But there comes a time to show good sportsmanship, and admit Joe won! :good

There have been plenty of Hopkins fans admitting he won. Just because some are more vocal and making excuses doesn't mean they speak for everyone.

I have been a Hopkins fan for 12 years now. I had Joe winning the fight and i have given him credit. He has also replaced Pacman at #2 on my p4p list.
Is that enough for you?

Nothing is enough for Calzaghe fans. They want everyone to say that Calzaghe won, and that Nard's age was not a factor in the fight. They also want you to say that Kessler is an elite fighter and that Calzaghe is one of the greatest fighters ever.

Joe won. But Bernard made him look so crap that he might aswell have lost. Nobody will ever consider him an ATG now, especially he wants to take on a shot Roy Jones. Except for Brits.

I'm not a massive Hopkins fan but I thought he won the fight, I was amazed when the judges gave it to Calzaghe. Bear in mind I didn't think the two Taylor decisions were in any way contraversial.....
I do dislike Calzaghe immensely, due to the fact that I've had to watch him fight bums for the last 10 years whilst the likes of McGuigan claim he is a 'great' when he clearly fucking isn't. I fully agree with the rest of your post, no-one will ever consider him an ATG now because he's fought all bums and when he finally stepped up the level he got humbled by a 43 year old man and the scorecards were questionable at best. ATG's are guys like Jones who beat the likes of Hopkins and Toney when they're at their best. Barely beating a 43 year old Hopkins just proves the point that the Calzaghe haters have been making for years about this guy.

I'm not British, and I have no Welsh or Italian heritage that I know of.
But I think Joe is a unique and special talent, and there was nothing I saw Saturday night that convinced me otherwise. I was impressed by the way he adapted to Hopkins difficult style, and began to dominate by the middle rounds. Joe landed more punches on Hopkins than anyone ever has.
In my opinion Joe is an all-time great! :bbb

roy said it best when he sayed the fight could go either way.
one guy throws more and the other guy lands the harder flush shots.its what the judges perfer, 2 feel that the guy that threw more punches should win the fight and 1 sayed he liked the guy with harder shots.
it is what it is, that bhop says he loss but not to joe.meaning the way the judges pick fights.
spinks threw pitty pat shots on taylor in there fight just to lose because jermain through harder punches.it all depends on the judge and what they look for.
hopkins aint gone change his style and try to match punch for punch with joe so again it is what it is.
harder shots or more shots.who ever lands more wins most of the time unless ur spinks or winky and fighting jermain.
and few other fights were the guy throws more but loses to the guy who had the harder flush.

No, not that I know of as there is no account of him ever being dominated.
Has Joe ever looked this bad or worst against top competition (P4P top 10 or future HOFers)?
There's been people on both sides scoring fights for either fighters. I admit that it was a close fight and can see how people had it for Joe but I'm not going to lie, I thought Hopkins won.

Joe did win the fight clearly! That being said the fanatics of either fan has been shameful! Hopkins fans have made a million threads about this and that, and a pile of other crap. While Calzaghe's finds have countered with their own crap. The whole thing has been messy, much like the fight!

Plenty of Hopkins fans have said that they scored it for Calzaghe.
And for that matter, quite a few Calzaghe fans said they scored it for Hopkins, or that it was extremely close and could have gone either way.

Joey won a points victory apparently but fought like limited fighter because that is what he is ... punches like a woman (throws like a complete non-athlete) and is a full step below guys like Toney, Jones, Hopkins, etc. Watch his fights and you'll see ....
He's Joey in the plastic bubble ... way overrated.
This is ESB ... there is a majority of 'white' posters particularly from Europe ... if we had a vote of greatest humans ... Hitler would rake in the votes around here ... so you can be sure that if ESB votes Calslappy as 'great' he is actually merely 'decent' - at best.

Both fighter are shot IMO. There are allot of BHOP fans who think that JC is in his prime but was made to look amateurish by the old master. In fact JC is over the hill now and lost some power by moving up to LHW.

Some of Joe's fans want to submit that he's now 'shot' or 'over the hill' - that's complete and utter bullshit. He's always been overrated, always punched like a chick, never had any real power because he's not a great athlete ... simple revisionism .... he looked like a limited fighter against Hopkins at 43 because that is what he is and has always been.

If he is limited how did make the fight so close and why was BHOP so tired that he faked a low blow? I am not even a JC fan but I have watched him for years and he is on the slide since the Bika fight I would say but he is clever and knows how to take a fight on points.

Yeah, I thought Joe was 'shot' after the Bika fight but he proved me wrong. He wasn't shot; he was just starting to decline markedly.

The fight was close because Joe has a good work rate and Hop doesn't.
Saying Hop was faking a shot to his balls is absurd ... you a nut-hugger?
I have watched Joe since the mid-90s ... he was ALWAYS overrated.

Hop was wildly EXAGERRATING the shot to his balls - are you denying this for one second? One minute you're saying that Calzaghe hits like a chick. Then you're saying that one of his 'slaps' (that connected with Hop's glove first) was so hard that Hopkins needed 4 minutes to recover from it.
Come on. Hopkins played it up because HE NEEDED A REST. That is cheating in my book.

BULLSHIT. I don't know how a nut-hugger rationalizes it but where I come from we always assume that if a man gets hit in the balls (and the tape shows a punch - twice) he might be affected. What are you a little girl? No balls? No idea that sometimes even a glancing shot to a cupped athlete could produce a 'problem'? LOL - get real. I don't ever begrudge another athlete time when he gets hit accidently by ME. Joe's unwillingness to acknowledge this makes him a friggin' CUNT.

Yeah, Joe's 'low blow' was freakin' devastating - on a par with Golota's low blows on Riddick Bowe I'd say. Or so you'd think looking at Hopkins' reaction :yep

Name calling? Losing my cool? LOL. Dude, the only thing that happens on ESB is name calling and/or inflammatory statements .... you think this is an educational forum? lol
ANYtime another athlete gets nailed in the balls he gets time ... we don't evaluate the level of pain .... only nut-huggers would try and differentiate about something they can't possibly evaluate ... give it up ... it's ridiculous ... how can you exclude the possibility that his balls got choked and he was 'reduced' because of it? Face the truth ... Joey looked like shit. He's a decent fighter just not an ATG. He's just not athletically gifted enough ... he struggled with an old Hopkins ... he's between 5-10 for SMWs of the past twenty years .. that's it.

''Joey looked like shit'' - I agree. But I partly blame Hopkins for his constant holding and overall boring approach to the fight. Did Joey look like shit against Kessler? Before you start slagging Kessler off..............let's at least wait and see how Kessler does when he comes back.
''He's a decent fighter just not an ATG'' - I disagree but I suppose you could make a case for this.
''He struggled with an old Hopkins'' - Agreed but Calzaghe was quite old himself and who'd look good against Hopkins fighting like that? Tarver? Taylor? Wright? Tito? De La Hoya? Calzaghe did better than any of them - FACT.
''He's between 5 - 10 SMWs of the last 20 years'' - I'd put him at No.2 behind RJJ, but even 5-10 SWM of the last 20 years is PRETTY DAMN GOOD in my book so you agree...............Calzaghe is a pretty damn decent fighter.

I had it 115-112 Calzaghe as well. "Most" judges will reward aggression and punch stats with points and this is exactly how Joe won. Not sure how anyone could have had Hopkins winning. Sorry.
