main support for fenech vs nelson 3..

quote:
Former IBF junior-lightweight champ Gairy St Clair is poised to fight hot prospect William Kickett on the undercard to the Jeff Fenech-Azumah Nelson three-peat in Melbourne on June 24.
St Clair is trained by Johnny Lewis, who has previously described Kickett as the most talented Aboriginal prospect he's seen since Lionel Rose 40 years ago.
St Clair recently lost a 12-round decision in London to British Olympic hero Amir Khan and was taken to a close decision in his win over Filipino Jun Paderna in Cronulla.
Kickett's trainer Craig Christian saysSst Clair is ready for the taking against his 21-year-old star who is undefeated in nine fights and knocked out Paderna in a round last year.

St Clair only just beat Paderna a few weeks back and Kickett seems to be on the rise, should be a good fight. I'm predicting Kickett by UD.

Its a good test for young kickett, one he will pass, the most exciting Oz talent to come around for years.

Kickett has Thomas Yakubu 1st on FOX on May 30.

If he comes thru that then a potential match with Gairy St Clair may happen.
Tho i heard a different date, not June 24.
I guess we will no in time.

Yes how dare you make a spelling mistake on a boxing board where grammatical perfection in essential. :yep

Gairy is looking on the slide. I think this will be a good scalp for Kickett, he will be too big and powerful.

Not sure he is ready for that yet, St Clair has a lot of experience.

Admittadly i haven't seen alot of Kickett (only a couple of youtube clips) and he did look super impressive, but Superman still looked OK against Paderna. By the last 3 rounds, Paderna was just punching shadows. I know Paderna isn't a great measuring stick for where St Clair is at, but he still looked alright. Good luck to Kickett for having the balls to take the fight and risk loosing what todays boxing world endears so much - his 0!

Really? As slick as St Clair's movement always seems, I thought he looked a bit shit at times against Paderna. I've certainly seen him look better against better fighters anyway. He had only very recently faught Khan, so Im not sure if that made it tougher to get up mentally for the Perderna fight.
Eitherway it will be tough for Kickett Im sure, hope he does well.

I thought he looked ordinary in the first 3 rounds.. but was impressed with how he finished. I thought he was very, very hard to hit in the last 3. He looked slugglish and hittable only when he was punching himself.. but thought his head movemet was spot on.

Fair enough, the only thing i'd add is Paderna looked pretty unconditioned and you wouldn't think that would be a problem for Willy.

Yea mate, agree 100%. Got a tip for a winner? If the talk about Willy is right, then his a young man with a very winnable fight on his hands in St Clair.

It's tough because Kickett's still so green. I like the natural advantages Kickett holds, but if St Clair survives his power I can see it going either way.

I might get off the fence for you after the Yakubu fight :thumbsup

Fights off....

Former world champ Gairy St Clair may have priced himself out of a showdown with undefeated Perth hotshot William Kickett.
The pair are due to fight on the undercard of Jeff Fenech-Azumah Nelson III in Melbourne on June 24 but there has been a final hitch to the deal.
``Gairy wants too much cash,’’ said Fenech, who is promoting the fight.
``I’m willing to pay a fair price but he wants the sort of money you get for a world title challenge.
``He wants more than Danny Green got to fight Markus Beyer for the WBC title in Germany the first time ($US30,000).
``If he thinks he’s worth that much let someone else promote it.
``At the end of the day the people who come to see Fenech-Nelson III are coming to see us not the undercard.’’
Stay tuned.

St Clair is coming to the end of his career, I can kind of see where he is coming from.

I think he got about $50 000 for the last eliminator he was in.

I dont like it when fights dont eventuate because of $$$ but in this case, he is under no pressure to fight Kickett.

St Clair knows he is in for a beating.
So why not get some extra money in the process.
