This will be my training diary.
My specialist subjects in training are geared toward powerlifting so you can ask me the odd question, but my main aim is to lose weight.
I am lifting but as for doing heavy sets of squats, bench press, power clean etc... no - my body cries out for too much protein. I will stick to moderate lifting and a lot of "cardio".
I am starting today.
I want to get down to 225lbs at 10 or 11% body fat.
Starting weight: 289lbs.

Here is my plan.
Training no more than 5 times a week, but will probably use the gym Mon-Fri.
My main exercise will be bag work (though I could do with a decent 150lb bag), rowing and using the "cross trainer/ski machine type thing".
When I hit 252 I will start running again but not before.
My diet is protein rich with carbs that are low GI + moderate fat intake.
I am starting with 1700 calories a day and will work down to 1500 a day and stay there for a while.

In the past I was somewhat of a casual smoker, and since there is fuck all to do in hospital I lit up a few.
The first week will be hard I think but when I am at my ideal weight and body composition it will be the maintainince that will be the hardest part.
So don't get rid of that bat anytime soon.

What were your 1RM on the big 3, Jazzo?
Good luck, also.
Follow the West side for Skinny bastards program - geared towards hypertrophy, but a good program that you can easily tune into your moderate lifting.

I got up to just over 400lbs on my bench press after a year of training for lifting. After that I started to take my training seriously (I was a pretty heavy drinker) but had the misfortune of some ill health. I think that the 400 pound mark gave me a huge confidence boost because although I had excellent genes for size, I was not all that strong (well, compared to some real powerlifters my size).
The deadlift was an interesting one. I found it better not to train it often and instead to concentrate on plyometrcis/ballistics and supporting exercise. I must have added about 100kg to my deadlift with assistance exercises. Maxed out at 500lbs.
The squat - I don't have a good idea because, frankly, I was scared of them. I was not a proper powerlifter and I felt that after 450, my spotter was too incompetent to help me out of trouble. More spotters? I got some but did not feel comfortable. I was training more for the Hell of it so I stopped and just did higher rep work with lower weight.
I trained with weights in a half assed way through my teens, but these numbers, as I say, come from training after around 1 year.
When I get back down to a healthy weight I will obviously want to continue. I feel a bit bitter about some of my potential being waisted.

Good numbers, there, Jazzo.
I know how you feel with the spotters, but with the squat surely you could ahve just dropped it?
The bench, without a power rack, however, is a problem.
After about 4 months with the Westside Barbell system I was at DL: 145klg, BP: 85-90, Squat: 120 or so.
For 77kg bodyweight.

With the squat I did not have access to a power cage and I would almost have my ass on the ground (I am very flexible and was actually more comfortable doing it this way). I could have got myself out of it but I was wary of injury.
Anyhow, after training like a powerlifter (for the most part) and reading a hell of a lot, I have gathered quite a bit of knowledge on the subject.
A cunning lifter that applies clever training techniques always has a great advantage.
If you are clever about it you can increase all lifts (by a hell of a lot) with 2 very small training sessions a week.

Just that.
For a basic example:
Many people put too much effort in only to tire their muscles when their main goal if lifting more weight.

I understand that your muscle don't have to tire for you to gain strength/mass. I guess the question I'm asking is if there is some secret I have yet to discover. I like to fancy the idea that I know a good deal about training/lifting since I have done a great deal of research. Obviously, there is always more to learn so I'm curious if you harbor information unknown to me.

Lol, well alright.
When training for strength you want do less than 8 reps per set (I do 3x5).
You should warm-up and stretch prior to and after lifting.
Eat prior to lifting and consume protein and other essential nutrients afterwards for maximum benefit.
Consuming something close to 100g of protein or more is best for lifting.
Muscles require more than 24 hours to heal
8 hours of sleep a night
Squat, Deadlift, Bench and powerlifts are compound lifts and among the best lifts to do.
All off the top of my head. What'd I miss?

Hell yes.
I have been doing an hour on the cross-trainer followed by some bag work.
I have been doing some light weights - mainly dumbbell work and ab work with added resistance (I train my abs like any other muscle group) as well.
My diet contains a lot of brown rice, fish, soup, eggs (raw) and some added vitamins. C, D with calcium, flax seed oil and a controlled release multi-vitamin on top.

Hopefully I will be doing a decent amount of running by that stage which should help me toward my goal.

I was talking with Oz about this not too long ago.
I admitted that I was way too vain to post a pic of myself out of shape, or even take one.
I would be paranoid as fuck about someone finding it and it would have to be in a safe of some sort.
I am only going to weigh myself once a month until I hit 250. After that it will be more complicated but at this stage I can tell by looking in the mirror if I am doing things correctly.

As I say, my plan is to be running a decent distance at 250lbs.
I don't want to run on hard ground at my weight.
Besides, I am looking to get down to a decent weight and stay there, so I do not view it as a race.

Hmm. I think I might have a hiatal hernia, though it is unlikely to be at risk of strangulation.
Just noticed some strong symptoms (these are not hernias that stick out) but they are not uncommon.
Even then, only a severe deadlift session followed by weighted crunches can irritate me in the slightest.
Unlikely to be an ulcer I am told.

I went from 230 to 180 in 8 months by playing basketball 5 hours a day, doing medicine ball sit-ups, crunches, and bridges (go on forearms and toes in almost a push-up position. lift your body off the ground, keep your back straight and tighten your core for 30 seconds, then 20 seconds, 15, and 10). What weight are you now Jazzo? How long until you start lifting and reduce/stop the cardio?
I will not stop the cardio. I will just keep it up when I start powerlifting again next year, with less emphasis on it.
I honestly don't know what my weight is right now but I suspect that I am around 250.
Now that I have rid myself of one or two meds that slowed my metabolism down to that of a 45 year old endomorph (that is no joke - I went over the numbers) the weight will fall off me.
It will be relatively easy to get down to 230.
A little more difficult to get down to 225, but hardly impossible.

o i c.
so high protein-complex carbs foods are what you intake. Good man. keep it up
Yeah. Most vegetables are eaten raw (as are eggs - yeah, I know the risks)
Do not eat any processed or refined crap (fucks with serotonin production)
Only supplement I use is B Complex.
Rarely eat fruit - spikes blood sugar too much. Most can get away with it but I can't.
The eggs inhibit b vitamin uptake when eaten raw. Read up on it.. I'm not sure the Grapefuit without sugar is going to make you spike so much, its a negative calorie, or close to one.
Avidin is the culpret in eggs.

I check my blood sugar and am fine.
Just trying to help, I used to eat raw eggs in my shakes.
Might try this..

Yep, more expensive than powdered form of egg protein..
But less than its weight if you buy raw cartoned egg whites, they stay good a long time and free shipping in the states.
Avidin inhibits b vitamin uptake.. No bullshit.

Woah! I was just about to make another training log until I found this. Training is going well but you should not berate me for getting out of shape :verysad
Try taking a lithium, risperidone and sertraline combo for a year and see how you do ;)
At any rate, I have maintained pretty well but I am going to be going hard at it again.

How the weight currently?
17.11. 20% body fat.
I am off a lot of heavy duty meds so I want to get down to a little under 16 stone. I reckon the sertraline that I take slows my metabolism down by 15%, but I have lots of time to train.
I might even post some pics at my ideal weight, but no promises - it depends on lots of other things.
