View Full Version : Anyone changed their mind about Khan's chin?

I wasn't sure what the new opinion would be after the Limond fight. I mean, he took a relatively hard shot to the temple, and he got straight back up, but the fact is, he did go down. You have to give him credit for the recovery though, he came back off the canvas to beat Limond 2 rounds later. All in all, would you say that the fight proved that his chin is poor, or would you say it proved that it's stronger than most expected? He did get back up and win, after all.

no, I've been saying since just before he turned pro that his chin is china and last weekend backed that up.
Well, I think the suspicions about his chin might just have been confirmed, unfortunately. however, I always thought he lacked a bit of power, but it seems that he has a very good punch.
Don't count the lad out yet. I have major doubts, but I'm willing him to succeed because he does so much good for race relations - despite Hamed's fall from grace, he did a lot in that area as well.

Why would you say that last weekend proved he has a china chin? He got straight back up and beat the guy within 2 rounds. I'm not arguing, I'd just like people to justify their opinions.

Before Limond:
chin was ok but untested
great skills and speed
no dig
questionable heart
After Limond:
chin tested and fragile
good skills and great speed
plenty of punch power
loads of heart

khan got knocked down and HURT. it wasn't like he just sprang back to his feet to get back into the fight. it took him about 13 seconds to get up and then another 40 seconds to hang on before regainig a bit of composure.

I thought it was weak before the fight but i believed he would be able to get by anyway. Now believe he's on a one way train to self destruction with his "look at that punch i threw i'll wait around and watch it and im that good i dont need a defence" attitude.
Khan = Bad ko soon.

Before the fight everyone knows my stance was:
Khan's chin is Grade A China
After:
Khan's chin is confirmed to be Grade A China.

Lol this chin nonsense is getting me down I know the majority of posters here are pricks but khan hasnt even been knocked out yet!
This is turning into the whole unbeaten thing as soon as you lose your 0 you are a bum now as soon as you get knocked down you have a glass jaw.
Fucking joke.

Yes, it's encouraging to see someone accuse others of being pricks while being a prick himself. I find it strengthens my argument immeasurably when i use that line.
If the ref had observed the countdown correctly it would have been a KO. In fact, I thought dropping while trying to get up and not responding to the refs instructions post-KD were enough for a stoppage to be called.
I also thought that being KD'd for ten seconds was a KO, but not when Amir fights obviously...
He's a decent fighter and showed heart to fight back so effectively but he should have lost that fight and was given an escape clause by the ref.
He WAS up before seconds so if you are so biased you cant even hear the refs count probably I will not even bother talking to you.

Ive always said he was an overhyped chinless wonder
and ive always said put him in the ring with Amazing Alex and watch out for the fragements of glass when AAA lands his first solid punch.

Nah, his chin aint china:bart Maybe paper mache :D The guys a hype job simple as that. The quicker someone bursts his bubble the better. I didnt notice the ballyhoo about the knock down so I watched it back, the ref did help him out as far I see, anyone else the fight would have been stopped. Feck, what next, drag him back to his stool and give him a cold flannel, feck me:bart :bart

Rakim made a thread about boxing?
My knowledge is so supreme that I rarely feel the need to flaunt it like some others on here.
Made a thread in the general once as well, but I only ask things that are actually relevant to the sport, rather than banging on about inane fantasy match-ups...

My thoughts are his ability to take a shot are unchanged - he's got an iffy chin not terrible, but by no means good - comparable to Nigel Benn maybe. However, his ability in (mostly) avoiding dangerous situations and now knowing what to do when he has been buzzed has improved. To a fairly large extent, this makes up for having dodge whiskers.

Maidana, KOed 27/29 opponents, so there are 27 fighters with worse glass chins than Amir Khan.

no doubt that it looks like he is part of the corrales, pac, cotto club where not killing themself to make weight has helped. i've NEVER been a fan of cutting weight.
i never thought his chin was like people thought. people thought he cuold never achieve anything because he had a bad chin. i don't think his chin is great but it can take a knock. his chin is about conditioning, experience, confidence etc these points are always improving.

His punch resistance has improved and he does not panic anymore, but i still think he will get stopped again at some point in his career but against an elite fighter not a limited slugger like Prescott.

Its definitely much better than expected, though Maidana was hurt so badly in the 1st (miracle he got up to be honest) its hard to say how much of his power he could put into any of the punches for the rest of the fight and he had Khan hurt in the 6th and almost KO'd in the 10th.

Well speaks for itself, knocked down by Limond, Gomez and stayed vertical after being hit by Maidana. Can't just put it down to pure luck.
