He's fighting to get Margo/Cotto in Vegas because he wants to get a fight with Floyd in Vegas? Perhaps Or maybe it's because of this;

Gloves aside, Arum wants the fight in Las Vegas because he believes it will improve the pay-per-view performance by attracting more West Coast media coverage and more interest from Mexican and Mexican-American fans. Many of the media members on the West Coast rarely travel east to cover fights. East Coast media members are more likely to go to Vegas to cover fights.

A better question is, Why SHOULD they worry? All Cotto has to do is keep doing what he's been doing, beating top fighters and looking great in the process. Do that and the pieces fall in place as they should. Everyone and their momma knows he's the only logical choice for Mayweather. His being some top draw doesn't change that. If some fighters wants to claim one isn't big enough to pay him what he thinks he deserves, it's that fighter who looks bad. And floyd is plenty good at making himself look bad in the press.

Imperial1

If it weren't for the money i'm sure that the fight would have been held at MSG .How can the Garden compete with the big coorperate machine that is Vegas ? It can't ..Vegas holds no historic value as far as boxing is concerned none !!! Its only used for $$$$$$

In a perfect world, everyone would just fight the best fighters out there and wouldn't worry about money. As a Floyd fan, I think it's his duty fas the face of boxing to put economic issues aside and fight Cotto. However, I know most fighters don't think like that. It is for this reason that Hatton won't fight Witter and why Haye won't fight Cunningham. I don't like it, but it's reality. I would love for my boy Cunningham to be a big draw so that he could get any fight he wants. However, it's not that easy. Cotto has a golden opportunity to become big name in the sport. It is in everyone's best interest for him to become a big draw in the sport.

He will become a draw, that's the point. Whether he fights in NY or Vegas. Besides, being some huge draw is mainly beneficial if you want to pick and choose who you face. Cotto looks to be following the mold of Tito, rather then DLH, which is what Floyd seems to want to be.

But hasn't DLH fought better comp than Trinidad? Look at DLH's fight list; Carr, Quartey,Chavez,Camacho,Hernandez,Whitaker,Mosley, Trinidad,Vargas,Hopkins,Mayweather. They've fought a lot of the same fighters, but I think Hoya's first win over Chavez as well as his fights against Mosley and Mayweather give him the tougher list of opponents.

I thought he was just another generic Mayweather joyboy at first, but then I saw these threads started by him:

Wladimir Klitschko fails to make his mark as the ruler of the division. (Multi-page thread 1 2)
Brandonc1

Does Wlad beat any of these guys if so why or how. (Multi-page thread 1 2 3 4 5)
Brandonc1

Michael Katsidis will be out of his league tonight.
Brandonc1

Calzaghe down and hurt in round 1 (Multi-page thread 1 2)
Brandonc1

HBO hates Bernard Hopkins.
Brandonc1

Bernard is robbed by HBO again. (Multi-page thread 1 2 3 4 5 ... Last Page)
Brandonc1

So we've got hate on Wlad, Calzaghe, Katsidis, Cotto

But love for Mayweather, Casamayor, Bhop.

Anyone notice a trend there ?

Has there even been a bigger owning on esb than this one ? That might just be the hardest pwnage ESB has ever witnessed. I vote to sticky this thread indefinitely.

I know this thread is old but I feel inclined to mention this anyways.

The reason why they are fighting in Vegas is because of Margarito's support out west. Ideally if Cotto looks good against Margarito then hopefully the Mexicans there will tune in for his future fights.

Of course if Cotto gets plastered then it might backfire.

Good one Relentless, you gave me a good monday morning laugh :D ....

The MSG is known as the Mecca Of Boxing for all the big fights during the late 50s, and continue thru the 60s, 70s and 80s. Vegas is more about the $$ the hotels and the city can generate as a whole.

I cant remember which HBO Legendary Night was but there was someone telling a story about going to Vatican to visit the Pope, when the person approched the Pope to get his blessings, the person was introduced to the Pope as someone from the MSG to which the Pope raised his head and replied MSG is Boxing!!!!
