Can you guys names some Gate Keepers in boxing right now?

Ill start with saying:

Ismael Abdoul is the gatekeeper for the cruiserweight division. Basically, a win v him gets you into the cruiser mix. He also has a verry solid chin. Many top fighters today couldn't put him on canvas. If only he had good boxing skills.

I'll also say Monte Barret in Heavyweight seems like a gatekeeper right now, being hes fighting Tye Feilds soon.

Anyways, name some gatekeepers in any division in boxing right now.

Technically, he's a contender.. top 10 fighter in that division..... Jauregui is an excellent... There's another fighter in that division I would put on that list i can't remember his name but Jauregui just fought him and he also fought Kid Diamond... Think his name is Huerta....

Jose Luis Cruz- 147
Huerta- 135
Rubin Williams- 168
Howard Eastman- 160
Ben Tackie- 147
Chris Smith- 147/154

I would write Lovemore NDou but he's still a contender at 140
Juan Lazcano is a borderline contender too...
I can't think of anymore...

Zab has only lost to elite fighters.

Gatekeepers lose to (and ocassionally beat) up & comers.

Zab isnt a gatekeeper :nono

He's lost 2 fights to one of the top guys in the division ffs!

I think Zab Judah too.

He is a good fighter, but not great. However if you beat him you are one of the best around 147. Zab has only lost to the top guys, so if you can beat him then you are pretty good.

Lets see how Bika goes now that he's got some momentum behind him, a bit of cash so he doesn't have to work a day job while training for fights.

Physically, he's got all the tools he requires to make a big impact and he also seems to have a tonne of mental strength, is Pepe still his trainer after the show?
No, Bika is back with Mark Pitts his trainer & Angelo Hyder his aussie based manager.

He should be back in the US after the birth of his child in late June.

I don't see the picks at 160. No gatekeeper in the division until/if Pavlik vs Abraham happens. Just too wide a gap right now.

K-9 Bundrage is a bit of a gatekeeper type.

Keeps his opponents honest.

Zab Judah - WW
Shane Mosley - WW
Kermit Cintron - WW
Carlos Quintana - WW
Glenn Johnson - LHW
Nate Campbell - LW
Rocky Juarez - SFW

Alot of the guys named so far are stepping stones ... guy who are will be the next step up as far as tough competition ... but the guys I mentioned above are guys who are fighters who've accomplished something and will make good fillers for a young up & comers resume ... they also hold the key to the elite/championship level.
Mosley's career is in limbo and even if he defeats Judah, he still has to work his way up by fighting some up and comers.
Quintana will be a stiff test for an up and comer, but I don't see him beating an elite fighter ... he would have to make his name on feeding on fighters on their way up. Like a Carlos Maussa, Quintana couldn't step up to the plate and perform against a top notch opponent ... and I see him being the sacraficial lamb for a nice prospect.

Very nice call.

I agree that Bika and Judah aren't gatekeepers yet in the true sense. They're still viable and in the mix for titles. But they are gatekeepers to elite status in their divisions.

The WBA should give them "super keeper" status. :D

Yea I would agree to that.

As for the other posters on here, I disagree on some of your guy's choices.

I still consider Judah a contender.

If he were to pergaps lose to Mosley in a bad fashion, than Id say he would be a gate keeper.

Sakio Bika? Nah.... He's a contender in my book.

Emmanuel Agustus is a good choice, props to whoever said that.

You consider the IBF, WBO and WBA lightweight champion a gatekeeper?

BigReg

I see many people naming Zab Judah. How the hell can you be headlining a PPV and be a gatekeeper? I would like for some of you guys to give me your definitions of a gatekeeper.

Well, we all know that fight shouldn't be PPV. But that's another issue.

Of course Zab isn't really a gatekeeper yet. I'm jumping the gun tagging him one. However, he "verfied" Cotto by losing to him, and when he goes down to Shane, he's going to be doing the same thing against either Berto, Cintron, or the PW/ Quintana loser. He's got high level gatekeeper written all over him unless he pulls off something surprising next month.

I'm standing by calling out Bika. Ask Codrington.

Fitz, I hope you understand that calling Mosley and Campbell gatekeepers right now is completely indefensible.

The problem with this thread is that everyones degree of gatekeeper will be differant then others.

To me... the ones that i think are true gatekeepers are

Eastman
Corley
Monte Barret

ect

High level journymean that will usually beat other journymean but come up short against almost every elite fighter, and when you beat them, shows your on your way to elite status. And if you lose to them.... its a big setback.

A gatekeeper is not a contender... they were beaten usually by the contenders to get into their positions.

With the case of zab.... he was undisputed champion 5 fights ago... hes a contender right now still being in meaningful fights that are winnable for him, if he loses against mosley in bad fashion i will demote him to a high level gatekeeper.

cambell.... uuuuuuuuuuuuh...... not even going to dignify that one lol....

Monte Barret at Heavy; thats who Haye should fight as his first bout up with the big boys.

Cosme Rivera is a very good choice.

Zab Judah...no way; he is most definetly still in the mix. The fight with Sugar Shane will tell us a lot more in that regard.
