Just my take (and b4 you rant on whoever you are Im a fan of both guys)...my reasoning is that Floyd is better defensivley, is a lot faster, is a better technition, better ring general and definatley as equal to Cotto in terms of Conditioning (if not slightly ahead). The only thing Cotto has is heavier hands. Maybe....(Floyd has underated power)..
Dont misunderstand me - Cotto is excellent at all of the above (maybe not so much speed wise) but its just that Floyd is a little better and way faster. If Cotto can really hurt floyd early on he has a chance to capitalize on a wounded fighter...but if he cant land clean and slow Floyd down and assuming Floyd come as he always does - 100% I just can see Cotto coming away with the win.
Cotto is a "methodical breaker" that's his strength I just cant see him getting ontop of Floyd that way. Floyd is very hard to hit.

Jose Luis Castillo was not a guy that jumped on you at the bell but he gave Mayweather hell with his technical pressure.
Cotto is the same way, only he's IMO faster than Castillo as well as being bigger and stronger. He does not look to land a single punch that will end the fight. He consistantly applies pressure behind an effective left jab while cutting off the ring and once he does, he puts short, crisp punches together in combination to both body and head.
Ricky Hatton tried jumping on Mayweather, it didn't do him any good. Only left himself open for more of Mayweather's counters, as it showed in the 10th round. Hatton was able to work his way inside, he just couldn't pull the trigger and he simply doesn't have the offensive aresenal that Cotto does and he isn't as well-suited to the weight. Hatton looked worse than ever at welterweight while Cotto looked phenominal.
All these things combined with Mayweather slowing down a little and being more of a pot-shot type fighte at welterweight, Cotto improving and in his prime with a good style to give Mayweather trouble, the more I'm confident Cotto can take this.
Miguel Cotto vs Floyd Mayweather Jr Fight Analysis
Cotto will beat Mayweather if they ever fight, Cotto keeps on improving while Mayweather can only fade due to age and inactivity.
I understand this is a One-Sided argument (Making it Flawed), and if the fight is made ill do a complete analysis.
What are Mayweather's Weaknesses/What is he Vulnerable to?
-A Strong, accurate jab that allows the opponent to get inside. (Evident in the Castillo/DLH Fights)
-Technical pressure and ability to cut off the ring.
(Not wild all-out pressure like Hatton, Chavez etc. Floyd’s weakness was shown in the Castillo fight.)
-A Strong Fighter who is able to keep him on the ropes and punish him with hard, crisp shots.
-His tendency to lay on the ropes and go into a defensive shell, while throwing very few punches.
-His Tendency to take rounds off and just Circle and throw very few punches
What does this Mean?
This means that the perfect fighter to defeat Mayweather is a big, strong technical pressure fighter with a hard, well timed jab. Now think to your self, who in the welterweight division fits this description, that’s right- Miguel Cotto.
The opponent that gave Mayweather was Jose Luis Castillo, who in their first fight arguable defeated Mayweather. He used technical pressure based behind a hard, accurate jab to force Mayweather into a close-quarters battle. You must also take into account that Mayweather has faded since early 2000 and is now fighting past his best weight (130-135).
Miguel Cotto on the other hand is three times the fighter Castillo is, as well as being bigger, the harder hitter, faster and better defensively. There is no denying Cotto will be Floyd’s toughest test to date.
How would the Fight go?
Floyd generally takes a few rounds to figure his opponent out and get his rhythm, and will take about 3 rounds to really get going. Cotto will come out and try to land his snappy jab allowing himself to get inside and work the body. While Mayweather is potshotting and attempting to land his lead right, (Which he will land quite a bit) Cotto will be jabbing and forcing Mayweather into the ropes. Cotto’s underrated footwork will allow him to cut off the ring and possibly pin Mayweather on the ropes. There Mayweather will be forced into a close-quarter battle (similar to the Castillo fight), where Cotto’s greater strength and infighting skills will give him the advantage.
In many of Mayweather previous fights, whenever he gets hit by a solid jab he tends to instinctively go and lay on the ropes, allowing the opponent to get inside, a bad move against Cotto (Even in the beginning of the Hatton fight, Hatton was able to time some jabs to get inside). On the Ropes PBF will look to counter punch Cotto with stinging uppercuts and right hands. While Floyd may land many countershots, the difference in workrate will ultimately favour Cotto.
When Mayweather has an opponent continuously hitting him, he tends to focus more on defence then offence (Entering a defensive shell somewhat), basically allowing Cotto to land some of his brutal body shots and catch the eye of the judges (Leading the judges to believe Cotto may be in control). Cotto's body attack will wear Mayweather down and allow Cotto to come on strong in the Championship rounds. If Mayweather decides to run and potshot the entire fight, I can still see Cotto cutting off the ring and out landing Floyd with harder, more effective shots.
The Story of the fight will be Cotto winning most rounds due to his higher workrate, greater infighting skills and ability to get inside by his accurate jab.

No definately not underatting Cotto...i know what he brings to the table....the reason I said maybe is that every now and then your watch a fight and the guy that your thought had the heavier hands look "light on" ...Floyd has great accumulative power his punches add up (as do Cottos of course)....
wow hec of a response there...thanks for your well thought out speel...nice work
I already had it saved so i thought I'd just give my opinion :good

Not really. If Cotto shows enough strength and power he can make Floyd fight safe. Then he can works Floyd body and slow him down.
Seriously though, everyone has a gameplan until they actually get in the ring with Floyd.

Its not Mayweather's defence that will be the key in this fight, its Cotto's defence. Mayweather is very accurate and will pot shot through Miguel's defence all day long. Cotto won't get a chance to just keep hitting him. You need great footspeed to trap Floyd, like Castillo and Hatton did, and Cotto just doesn't have that. He's got fast hands, but not fast feet.
There's nothing Cotto brings to the ring that Mayweather hasn't dealt with before.

There's No Doubt Cotto Can Win This Fight. The Question Is, Can He Get Past Margarito? That's The Real Challenge. Once He Achieves That, If He Does, Then Ist's Going To Be An Easy Road To Atg. I Cannot Really See Any Way In Which Ubf Can Stop A Guy That's Getting Better Day By Day In Cotto. Mayweather Will Not Get Any Better At Welter. His Hatton Fight Has Been Overrated. Cotto Is Not Hatton , He's Not Castillo, And He Is Not Judah , To Whom He Won In A Way More Convincing Fashion Than Ubfloyd Did. My Money Will Be On Cotto , And When Fightnight Comes, I Hope He Will Still Be An Underdog, Easy Money For Everyone!

Awesome post!:good
Also why do everyone overlook the fact that Floyd came into the fight with JLC injured? He beat him clearly in the second fight (though I do think he should have lost the first one).
There is no blue print to beat Mayweather yet!
