Go and work for an established promoter. You'll learn the ropes, see things from a completely different angle, and begin to understand just how hard it is to put on a successful promotion.

don kings first promotion was the rumble in the jungle, so if you want to be him, find a corrupt dictator somewhere and exploit his need for spotlight ;)

what area u in mate.
like some have said contact a local promoter and offer to give him a hand at his shows.
i am planning a pro-am at the end of the yr so i will be giving Ziggy a hand at his show in may just to learn a few things.
most promoters would love an extra hand at shows
i can give u a few numbers if u want

It obvious the man's a dick. Offers next to nothing constuctive. Would love to know his remedy for fixing Australian boxing, and why he hasn't had a go...

My remedy is to get some professionalism back into the sport.
Fox Sports and Main Event should dictate to the promoters what they can and can not show on TV. I would also like to see Crown Casino host some boxing nights (like casinos do in vegas) and bankroll overseas fighters to come here.
We also need to get the ANBF to show some balls in unifying state rules about boxing. how we can ban womens professional boxing in NSW, yet allow it in Qld is a joke. how can they ban the Mundine Casillo fight in Newcastle, yet have it in Qld? Boxing is controlled by monkeys in Australia and it needs to improve.

That'd be handy if they knew the first thing about boxing, but they don't. Casino's in the US put on the big fights because the big fights attract big punters. Can't see that happening here.

Maybe this is of help to you: [Only registered and activated users can see links]
Sammy boy,
best way i to educate yourself first. Theres a lot more to promoting than you think. You need to first understand how the public tick and how they respond to advertsing.
Get a diploma or degree in marketing - that will be a good start. That will make your promoting efforts better than the others. Be one step ahead of the field. Find out what the latest marketing techniques are etc. Once you got that down pat, and you host an event, you'll find yourself pulling a larger crowd than the other promoters and will slowly rise to the top.
get a managers licence and scout am gyms, see whats going on in the area and see who is the big wig and try and work together.
may be worth getting a few journeyman type fighters on the books and supply them to the big promoters and built from there-only a suggestion.if your in wa then there are not a lot of shows here so there is a market for boxing managers/promoters to start out.
if you decide to go ahead then let me know and ill be your first signing,im waiting on visa getting sorted then im planning on fighting over here.

promoter..what for? just ask any promoter and they'll tell you that all they do is lose money on promotions! doh
Yeah in Australia its so hard these days just to break even.:deal
The Tuaman
05-02-2008, 10:23 PM
Promoted 5 pro-ams and havent lost money yet. Probably just jinxed myself but its going to happen one day, thats the game! but be smart about it put on a SMALL show first and grow from there. You dont need BIG name guys if you have well matched fights.
Kegsy
05-02-2008, 10:28 PM
I can name countless events in recent times in Australia that ended up with huge losses with big names headlining & all.
Like Tuaman said a well matched smallish card is a great way to at least break even.

If you want to do it, go for it!...
I spose it seems you havent thought too far into it, but youre going to need to risk a lot.. especially failure.
Heres some things that our fights contend with:
Organisation. You will need to be registered with appropriate authorities in regards to business & the boxing side
Fighters. Youll need to arrange the matchups, pays for each fighter, where they will stay if theyre regional, the contracts, .. plus fighters pull out & you have to arrange others
Venue. involves appropriate seating, ticketing security, parking, audio & visual set up, bars, food, corporate hospitality & g admissions etc. Depending on the event a police presence maybe be required (AT YOUR COST!)
Marketing - Plenty of lead up marketing through posters, websites plus maybe newspaper etc. Girls & various promos on the night.
Equipment - A ring, gloves, pa & dj equipment, you need to book a doctor etc etc..
you could go on forever... its a lot of work but very rewarding!!!
You may be looking at around 50k for a night depending on the size
huricn
05-05-2008, 08:30 PM
it all depends on who u have on the card. i know some fighters that have no problem selling 10 tables. and some fighters struggle to sell 10 general addmins.
the best bet is to try and get some local sponsors to help with the initial outlay of cost.
but it all comes down to the fightersu put on. put a fight on that ppl want and they will come to watch it.
for my pro-am im putting on later this yr i will have 3 pro fights and about 7 am fights and so far my cost are around $11000 but i have got a few good local sponsor so that takes some stress off my back.

i have made a deal with the promoter.
so i wont get a pre arranged price. i will get $10 for every ticket i sell.plus 10 free tickets
so at this early stage i have about 100 ppl interested in coming. so thats $1000 for me which is very good for a pro debut normally u would get about $800.
and since im my own trainer and manger i get to keep it all

Billy Hussein has to start getting his hands on at least 1 or 2 boxing cards a year on FOX.
He is way better than Murray Thomson & at least equal to Jamie Myer.:deal

I'm up for that, I'll use my 30 seconds of stamina to hide behind Kegsy and clock you while ur distracted by the K-man. Then when me and Kegsy have our hands raised as the winners I'll attack Kegsy with a steel chair and run off with the belts for myself.
Then I'll call Bobby out to challenge him as everyone knows hes ducking me. Bobbys not much huricn, he knows that I know that he knows that I know I'm the stronger, despite my 4 inch biceps compared to the 23 or 24 inch ones hes got. Its all in how u use 'em, and I figure as Bobbys always out training and sparring and stuff and I keep mine completely rested by not doing any exercise that when the time comes for us to square off I'll be the one with the fresher arms. Its science you see.
