View Full Version : The 'worst' boxer in the world?
v2k987
04-30-2008, 12:49 PM
Forgive the fairly cynical topic, but I was just on Boxrec and I saw a guy, Julio Jerez, who had a record of 1-28-0 and I just started laughing. It made me wonder who in fact has the worst record in the world? Has anyone come across something worse then this, perhaps a further distinguishment could be how many times the fighter has been knocked out. Perhaps we could celebrate such a guys determination!! First post, sorry if this has already come up!! :smoke

The worst regurlaly televised boxer is Tye Fields - the worst to watch is that Dirrel clown that ran from Curtis Stevens.

Peter Buckley's a decent boxer...he's caved many many shows by showing up on a few hours notice. He may not win many but he's rarely stopped and always gives prospects a good fight.

Can't judge a guy off one fight. Wait to see how he looks Friday against Hanshaw. I've seen Dirrell fight 4 or 5 times and he usually is a pretty exciting fighter, minus the Stevens debacle.

Maybe for getting in, but not for what they do. A guy like Crumble is basically paid to get knocked out. He's not really competing, he's falling down.
There's a name for that in boxing - a tomato can.

Well said...i'd love to see half the people on here who regularly critisize boxers get in the ring just once. Their faces would be a picture after they started getting hit for the 1st time :)

Its bullshit though, for example heres a british fighters record one peter buckley
[Only registered and activated users can see links]
Now looking at it,you would think him complete shit, but having seen him many times on eurosport in the past,he is a very good defensive fighter, who hardly ever got KOed and was used to give up and coming young guys a good hard night test,so sometimes looking at a record on paper does not always tell you the real story, the guy was hard to hit, pretty mobile and knew what he was up to

Agreed!! Records dont tell the whole story, Paul Bonson is another British journyman who would take a fight at a moments notice and then get beat but put on a decent show!
Having said that, Eric Crumble's record surely speaks for itself!!!

yeah agreed, the British journeymen I remember some of 'em where quite good.
Paul Bonson has one of the best chins in world boxing. 95 losses, 3 by way of TKO. 20-95-7 doesn't tell half the story.
Tony Booth is also another journeyman who's pretty good. 50-105-9 looks terrible, but when you think about it he's got more wins than any other british boxer I can think of. Calzaghe has 43, hatton 42.
Ojay Abrahams is my fave though. He was a pretty talented fighter back in the day, I'm sure he could've been a decent contender if he'd have got the right management. 20-75-4 but trust me he was genuinely quite talented.

I don't mind journeymen like Buckley to be honest, other notables included Mark Ramsey and Karl Taylor. The ones that really get on my wick are the ones that don't even try to fight, always getting KO'd straight away.

Years ago we had a pro fighter in our gym. I think his last name was White, don't remember his first name. He was a cop, and a very tough street guy at about 160-170lbs. However about 2-3 times a year he would fight a pro fight under different names?, and get his ass KO'ed. The story was that he had lost almost 30 fights (all by KO) without a win? Even though i was a lightweight. I used to love to spar with him, while he was very tough, it was like boxing a heavy bag with legs. You couldn't miss him. Plus he was slow, and had no punch to speak of. He has to rank up with some of the worst of all time.
