Ricky Hatton:
Ricky Hatton says he has declined a bigger payday to ensure his next fight is at a time which suits British fans.
"I put my contract with HBO and Golden Boy on hold so that I don't have to fight at 2am (for American TV).

Dan Rafael:
"HBO passed on Hatton-Lazcano. Besides a packed schedule and budget concerns, it didn't care for the matchup and was not too interested in doing a fight on the typically low viewership Memorial Day weekend."

If the fight is 'payback' for British fans why is it on PPV in the UK as well.....come on Ricky we're not mugs !

He loves his fans so much they have to pay £15 just to watch it on TV. He loves his fans so much that he's fighting Lazcano and not Witter.

What ever the reasons behind it and who knows what to believe, its good to see a fight at a British fight time for a change. Even Haye vs Macranelli ("the battle of Britain") was on at American fight time, despite it being an all British event held in the UK. All the big British fighters fight at ridiculous hours nowadays.

I wouldn't mind if he'd just say "I don't want to fight Witter becaue he's too good, I reckon I can beat Lazcano easily. As for the PPV price, well I want to make as much money as possible." But don't give us the usual crap about it all being about the fans because it clearly isn't.

They certainly are theres tons of them on this board who believe any of the piss that comes out of his mouth.
"It's all about achieving my goals now and doing right by the fans. I want to be remembered as a fans' favourite, a people's champion.
I guess Ricky hasnt realised yet that his fans want to see him vs Junior Witter.

I guess Ricky hasnt realised yet that his fans want to see him vs Junior Witter.Yeah the suggestion that his fans don't want the Witter fight is ridiculous. His fans on here come out with stuff like "I'd love Ricky to shut Witter up". They'd much rather see the Witter fight than the Lazcano or Malignaggi fights. The problem is that Hatton basically tells his fans what they want. ie. the fans don't want me to fight witter.

Who gives a shit? This is a tune-up fight, a big homecoming shindig in front of 50,000 of his home fans to boost his confidence after his first and only loss. Its not exactly a travesty of justice like some people are making it out to be.
The only thing I object too is the £15 PPV business, thats a bit much for a warm-up fight, but otherwise I have no problem with Hatton - Lazcano and you should get get off his back.
The big fights will come. Malinaggi in autumn followed by another big fight, maybe Witter, maybe Pacquioa, maybe Cotto, maybe a rematch with Floyd. be patient and get some sense of perspective instead of bursting into a a fit of self-righteous indignation every time someone mentions Hatton's name.

then maybe he should follow your lead and tell everyone its a tune up fight instead of pretending its a huge showdown.

well..this is the safest opponent and probably smartest move he could make...the perfect 'tune up' fight...
but..i think hatton will be going downhill from now on...hope i am wrong..
lazcano will NOT be the man to expose this..
the way he hit the ringpost again floyd was very damaging looking...
and if you listen very closely to him speak recently..he has a very slight slur..he was as sharp as a knive in every way a year ago...he looks subdued in some ways to me...i think some of the fight could be gone out of him...
but..again...lazcano's not the man to expose this...
hope i'm wrong...just an observation..

What was it he said in the same interview?
"I don't think I could be accused of ducking anybody" or something to that effect :rofl
Sure Ricky. You've been ducking him so long you have forgotten he exists.

Fatton is a joke figure, he's a manipulative fraud and it's just a shame that there are so many people out there so stupid as to fall for his nonsense.
He's an insult to real boxing fans.

Hatton's choices for his comeback fight were
Torres
Holt
Witter
Lazcano
Rees
He chose the weakest of the 5 and the one that gives the least amount of reward, and the fact that this is a PPV tells you, whoever buys it is stupid.

I haven't paid for any of his shit fights since the one with Kostya; I'm not even sure if I paid for that one (PBF fight was free).
I'm tired of hand-picked garbage. Castillo kicked the shit out of Lazcano years ago; the guy is not the same fighter he was before that fight. Even before it he wasn't exactly forcing his way into the elite category.
Just 1 question for the Witter fans please.
Why was/is Witter allowed to get away with fighting Morua as a first defence, put in a shit performance yet get away with the slagging off.
Yet Hatton has a tune up after his first defeat against Lazcarno, who granted is past his best, yet was being lauded as a great win for Harris only a few months back. This was after i questioned the "good" win for Witter over Harris, the main reply i got back was Harris is number 3 in the division and he has just had a great win over Juan Lazcarno.
Yet Hatton gets stick for fighting him now:huh

Every fighter try's to promote and sell their fight, tell white lies. I never seen one saying, don't bother coming along my opponents crap.
What other established British big name fighter has fought recently at UK times, certainly not Calzaghe or Haye.
This fight shouldn't be PPV, but the bottom line is, is that he is fighting at UK times. That is a fact and it's nice to see.
Anyone who thinks that after being Ko'ed by Mayweather, Hatton should have chosen his tune up fight to have been against Witter, is even more stupid then a fan who believes absolutely everything that comes out of a boxers mouth.
Amazing, every time i mention my question the Witter fans go silent:huh

Hatton needs to make sure his fights are in England only, so that he can fight superior fighters like Kostya Tsyzu and cheat.

to be honest I was expecting an even worse opponent handpicked by Hatton for this one.
the issue is wider than that. Firstly, Hatton's blatant ducking of Witter FOR MANY YEARS NOW, and secondly all the rubbish Hatton feeds to the people and they believe him.

I dont want to go over old ground, Hatton v Witter.
I posted a while back that Witters victory over Harris wasnt as good as people thought, mainly because Harris is one of the poorest champions of recent memory. Well needless to say alot of people where claiming he was top 3 in the division and he had just beaten a quality fighter(LAZCARNO) in a good close fight.
Now the same people are discrediting Lazcarno as old, small and handpicked (which i agree with). But whilst slagging off Hatton v Lazcarno, when i mention the fact that Witter handpicked Morua i never hear a peep again.
Dont get me wrong the fight is a good pick me up and should provide Hatton with a devastating win to get his confidence going.

Does he know they're stupid? Yes
Well maybe stupid is a bit strong...they're just fans to the bitter end. I don't know if that makes them stupid but it definitely makes them a little gullible.

He's conned his fans out of this fight for long enough. The Witter fight would make Hatton far more money than the Lazcano fight aswel as earn him far more prestige so there is no excuse really.

Fuck off! When have British boxing fans started any violence in the last 15 years? In fact, the last time there was serious violence was from the "British" Muslim's at a Khan fight.
I guess they take after their hero. The guy who doesn't even have the decency to make a public appearance afer his role in someones death.

And did Witter not do the exact same thing with Morua?
Look fighters have got to hype the fight, plain and simple!
Did Witter mention that Morua was a threat and was going to be a good fight? Of course he did!

I responded wrongly to that point. I assumed it was a pop at the British fans, and even though they aren't always great "scum" is not the word to describe them.
