Should be a Quick KO win for Tua

I'm guessing a lackluster TKO in the late rounds with Tua barely ahead, proceeded by a 7-month layoff before he fights another Quezada-level fighter.

Prove me wrong, David. Prove me wrong.

wow, he must really need confidence builders, still.

the only thing for him is to keep fighting, go back to fighting 2-3 months apart. a long string of knockouts does good things for peoples careers, look at shannon briggs.

Tua seems like he's just fighting no-risk bouts for a little money these days. It doesn't seem like he's serious about getting it together and working hard at making one last run, which is a shame because Tua if he just got into decent shape and really dedicated himself could still win a title and make some good money in the current division

If Tua is going to fight this level of opposition he should fight 4 times in 6 months then step up his competition

My thoughts exactly. He could have fought a guy like this a month after his bout with Hawkins.

Easy to say, but I doubt many guys want to fight Tua, especially any contenders....too risky.

Wow, I was hoping Tua would be on the faster track back to the mix but it appears he GOT COMPLETELY OFF THE TRACK.

I had to look twice there, i thought it said "David Tua Next Opponent Hamed"

The only good things that could come out of this is if Tua weighs in less than the 241 from his last fight, and a quick KO.

Apart from that this is useless, yet again. If he's going to fight this poor level of opposition then it should at least be every month, not every 3-4.

Still, reservations aside...glad he's continuing, I just hope this leads somewhere worthwhile.

Until Tua is fighting once a month he is done. I don't see TUA's name on that page either.

I hope you're right, I have tickets to that event.

Didn't he turn down a bout with Brewster?

If that's the case, he'd be better off fighing bums once a month than fighting guys like Hawkins and Quezada every six months.

I don't think he'll ever get himself back in fight shape again, at least not top shape to really contend, he'll take another half yr off after this fight and then re-appear in the canned goods section in a grocery store. he reminds me of Kirk Johnson.

Is David actually planning on going somewhere again in the division? Doubt it, He's being an invalid

As long as he gets under 240 his weight is ok. But weight alone dont tell you if you are in shape or not. If you train serious and right the weight wont matter at the end. The most important thing is GOOD HARD TRAINING. You dont need to care about the weight as long as you train good and are a heavyweight.

No way that Tua stops this guy. He went the distance against 6-12-2 James Lester.

Tua is on the right road- the Riddick Bowe comeback approach of a "bum a year" club. He's also making sure he wins as unimpressively as possible, which can only help his case.

This is just the calibre of opponent that will get people talking again. Come on people- Manuel "Quicka" Quezada is a former WBE superheavyweight champion! At only his second attempt! His two fights with David Johnson are arguably two of the best superheavyweight clashes EVER. Valuev picked on smaller men to avoid challenging Quezada's impressive place in the superheavyweight division.

Just to further add to his claim, I bet Tua will intimidate Quezada by weighing more than him- the classic "Legend Killer" Danny Williams approach to beating superheavyweights.

Tua will be champion by 2015 for sure.

I would love Tua to get on a roll.

But I think you need to stop hammering Tua, and start hammering Kushner. He has been fucking rubbish as a promoter.

Tua (according to a post fight interview I saw) said he wants to fight once a month. Kushner looked super unimpressed with him saying that.

I wish Tua could just piss him off, and hire somebody decent.

I expected the opponent to have something like a 15 22 6 record from the replies.

This guy is not a good opponet, no, but he's not got that many losses. At least that something.

lacklustre Kushner has been - suddenly there is an announcement!!

What a coincidence!!

Big question - can he actually KO a guy like this and get some real media attention?

-It needs to happen....

BTW - What's the date??

He cannot be serious...fans have waited all this time for him to fight another bum. Just go home and retire already Tua...you're a complete waste of time.

Tua is done. Nobody should need to "tune up" for this many years.

It's over.

DamonD

Tua should go out and KO Shannon Briggs. The win would bring some notoriety back to his name, and would likely be a springboard towards an eventual title shot.
He already turned down the chance to fight Briggs.
In favour of more 'warm-ups'.

The date is July 14th, OF THIS YEAR!!! Don't blame Kushner. Even though Tua said on TV he needed to fight every 6-8 weeks after the Hawkins fight, he also said that he needed to go home to his family and not fight until at least the end of June. That'll be almost 5 months! Tua says the right things, but then does something different. Now he'll need to get the ring rust out, again.

My thinking is that he fights this guy, who's rarely fought outside of California, ko's him, and then gets a big fight at the end of the year.

Obviously then it will be widely televised. Now THAT is probably what
they have been waiting for to show some Tua destruction!

Time for some TV!!

Tua has KTFO McCall to prove he is ready for a sho at the title. That would be a great matchup.

When will Tua step it up? The guy has turned down Shane Cameron and Lamon Brewster so he could fight this tomato can....if he doesn't win impressively and if he comes in overweight, I will write off Tua for good as he doesn't seem to be taking this comeback very seriously.

Kiwi_in_America
06-21-2007, 01:40 PM
The big question is whether he has kept all the conditioning that got him
down around 240.

If he has ballooned up to 250 again it really will be a sad joke.

I think he's just making a living without any major aspirations...

That's exactly the way it looks. How else can you explain the long lapses between fights and the pitiful "opposition??"

This is actually a step back from Hawkins, who is a reasonably solid journeyman. This guy is nothing more than a regional tomato can who will get crushed early.

How sad, frankly. If Tua moved quickly, he could really make some noise. He's just treading water - if that.
