He would be the most hated boxer on ESB, and that's the truth. I love seeing the threads of peeps giving him props today, lol. If he were fighting and schooling all of the brawlers of today, people would be hating him as much as if not more than PBF today. :yep :yep :yep

No. Pea stood in front of you and made you miss. He darred you to hit him, and when you did he made you look like you were trying to hang a combination on Casper. He also had a high offensive workrate, and was a good body puncher.

He wouldnt be hated, maybe not universally loved, but not hated either.

Agreed.

And Willie Pep would be hated even more.

pernell would be loved im sure of it. we like movers ,we like quick fighters, we like men who fight anybody in the division. who are not arrogant, and figh becuase they fight will give rematch when pressed and fights about 3 fights a year.

floyd doesnt do that he doesnt school brawlers...i think the only pure brawlers were castillo, corrales and gatti. and in that gatti was limited slow and terribly blown up. corrales was weak chinned but had dinamite power i feel this is floyds best win.

but castillo...the poor mans julio chavez beat him made him look like an awful jab and run artist.

and tell me did pernell beat chavez or what :yikes

pernell had an great workrate a shotgun jab and a great ability to dodge punches...

lall these quailities floyd has but doesnt use every fight

Whitaker was a lot more exciting to watch than most defensive boxers, he was a lot more aggressive than Mayweather especially against good competition. Mayweather will be aggressive against totally overmatched opponents. People make the mistake of thinking because Whitaker was a defensive wiz he spent the whole night on his bike. He threw and landed a lot of punches, was much more aggressive and fun to watch than Mayweather, he just didn't have much power

If Sweet Pea were a present day boxer, he'd be a PPV fighter JUST for his bunch of SKILLS ALONE

Sweet Pea had sweet boxing skillz, but he was a clown as well. A much bigger clown than pbf ever was or will be. He'd throw combos, had some excellent natural instincts that allowed him to easily duck move around punches to make people miss. However, he would also do a lot of show boating, sticking his head out at opponents, tackling, pulling down opponents shorts   . These are all antics that casual fans hated, and the fact that he could make the warriors of his day look bad, this made it worste.

This is true. But this type of behaviour is probably actually becoming more and more acceptable in todays sports world. The old school fight fans hated this type of stuff, I think we are more permissive.

Some guys might not like Whitaker but no boxer who ever lived was liked by EVERYBODY.

If Pernell fought today he would be the best p4p fighter in the world... no fighter fighting today could have handled chavez the way pernell did that night.... masterfull.

I don't know if he'd be hated, but I doubt he'd be loved either. People might feel like same way they feel about Winky.

He would be held in the same regard as Hopkins or Wright.

Say what you want about Mayweather, but Whitaker would not have finished off Corrales or Gatti like Mayweather had. He would've outboxed them soundly, but he never had the potential to dazzle the average fan with his combinations like Floyd.

Floyd rarely ever even throws combinations, Pea was the one who did that, I think you have them confused. I actually think he was capable of finishing them off like Mayweather did. The fight with Gatti would've been similar to his fight with Haugen if not a TKO.I had the Gatti fight in mind. Whitaker would never do what Floyd did to Gatti that night.

Floyd would never do what Whitaker did to Chavez or Nelson.Of course not. But that's irrelevant in this conversation. Hypothetically speaking, if we were to put a 140 lbs Whitaker in there with Gatti, he'd win by either a shutout decision or a stoppage. But he sure as hell would not do it as spectacularly as Floyd did.

He wouldn't do it the same way that Floyd did, but it would be a boxing clinic either way.And it would not appeal to the casual fan as much as Floyd teeing off on Gatti's head and ribs.

Yes 'cause Gatti is a friend of his, otherwise he'd do the same thing. Gatti was his sparring partner in the mainevent stable.

The guy fought everyone until the end and had no problem with going to your hometown and schooling opponent. He would be the hugest breath of fresh air for boxing purist. Lots of other past fighters would fit in this situation also.

Of course I'm not biased towards him:hat

I knew you had nothing(as usual):hi:You're too funny. I meant you like it when they brawl, trade, exchange, firefight, etc.

It's not new that lots of people can't appreciate good defensive fighters. You can't say that Whitaker didn't have more fun than anyone else in the ring though.

Gonzarelli

You can't blame me. You've used the race card enough times in your replies to make me think it was just your defense mechanism.

And Yes, I am a fan of fighters who bring excitement into the ring..

That's true!! Pee was a Boring fighter!! I'm hearing his name in the 90s but I never even attept to watch his fights. There's no buzz at all. I'm only with the Tyson & Holyfield and I saw some Trinidad and DLH in the 90s. If you saw the Hearns & SRL era, you'll lose interest with Whitaker.

Thanks for Pacquiao, Excitement is back in boxing. Floyd's more exciting than pee because of his arrogant personality. Pea's a Featherfisted Boring technical fighter with a Bland Personality.

Are we talking about the p4p top 50 boxer or the nut job esb poster? The former would certainly own a strap or two at 135 or 140 in any era, the latter is a tool.

Sweet Pea was entertaining to watch and faced all challenges. I believe he was superior to PBF too.
