"Fighters these days, they fight 12 rounds, but they don’t prepare themselves enough. Let me put it this way: When you throw three punches and back up, that’s avoiding competition, especially when you have the guy hurt. When we fought, we used to throw six, eight, 10, 12 punches at a time.”
Alexis Arguello
Couldn't have said it better myself!

If I tried throwing 8 punches in one go I'd probably have as many land back on me. If I throw 3 then back up then another three then back up I have less chance of getting hit back. Then again I'm only a novice.

Average at best.
Good for a normal person.
As an amateur boxer? Average at VERY best.
Am working on that intensely, though.
FUCK I LOVE BOXING.

NOne of us fight 15 rounds. Completly different type of training. At my best, my conditioning is very good. I can do a four round bout and go for a run after (well, unless I get beaten up, but that's not conditioning). I train pretty obsessivly when I'm boxing. Right now I'm not that fit though, but im not boxing.

When Joe Louis was training for his second match against Max Schmeling, he went 30 rounds flat out on a heavybag. How many rounds can you do? Don't feel bad, the whole heavyweight division is right there with you! :yep

Old fashioned boxing training never was too exciting, that is why these young guys are so involved in pumping iron. It is a lot more exciting albeit a waste of time. Sooner or later some opponent is going to push you to the edge. At that time of adversity it is what you do in training which will come out and be exposed. If you have been a slacker in the gym, you will be a slacker in the ring. Kermit Cintron is a case in point. Only the most diligent training over many years would have prepared him for an animal like Antonio Margarito. Cintron just wasn't willing to do it.

Im struggling with that right now even in sparring the 2nd round my technique and focus goes to shit. But ive been out of the game for a very long time so I guess its natural. As far as pumping iron I find that to be the most boring for some reason. The only exercise I get alittle enjoyement out of is the mits, running and sparring.

I find long runs needs more mental toughness than it does physical.
Sparring, mitts, heavy bag, are fucking fun.
Powerlifting is also fun because you can see yourself progress in a very real way, by numbers.
In boxing, you need a lot, a LOT more patience to get better at it.

Speaking of conditioning, did the deck of cards workout today.
2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10, Jack red were pushups of that number
ditto black for squats
queen king ace of all quits were burpees.
thats about 130 squats, 130 pushups, 60 burpees.
The shit thing? The last 3 cards were ace, ace, queen. I powered through that shit though, and then died.
Took a break every 12-15 cards or so, for a couple of minutes.

I'm gonna give that deck of card workout a try tonight. I used to do a deck of pushups only before bed.

It's very possible to do without a break, I'm not as well conditioned as that however. I had a headache going on for going too fast too quickly however.

The best way to do things is to keep track of your progress and try to improve a bit every week. Over-training will only get you an injury. If getting in shape was easy and quick there wouldn't be so many fat boxers these days.
