------------------------------

WrestleMania 24 drew 1,058,000 buys for $23.8 million, which is less than the 1.2 million buys and $24.6 million the company earned for WrestleMania 23 last year. The information was released this morning as part of the company's first quarter earnings report. To read a full breakdown of the company's report, click here.

Powell’s POV: The buzz leading into WrestleMania 24 was that Vince McMahon was targeting 1.4 million buys, so this number is disappointing to WWE. Floyd Mayweather predicted in interviews that the number would top the totals sales for WrestleMania 23, which featured Donald Trump. Nevertheless, WWE officials should be thrilled with the overall first quarter numbers. More on that shortly.

Company officials admit they did not pay $20 million for Floyd Mayweather's WrestleMania 24 appearance

-"We didn't pay Floyd (Mayweather) $20 million, but we did pay out more for top talent that we have before," Sileck stated while trying to explain WWE's dip in WrestleMania earnings compared to last year.

Interesting. The Big Show-Mayweather circus show was a funny one, though.

I don't see any reason Floyd shouldn't have done that, as he made side money and expanded his popularity, like on "Dancing with the Stars".

They paid Mike Tyson $1,000,000 to be the special guest referee for Stone Cold-Michaels a decade ago, so you know they weren't going to pay Floyd $20,000,000 to go against the Big Show

I haven't followed wrestling for years, but the that Tyson thing was cool. Especially when he "KO'd" Michaels after the match

Yea, I figured they weren't going to pay Floyd $20 million for just a couple appearence's. I'm sure some of the wrestlers there make less than $1 million a year and even the top superstars don't make close to $20 million a year. Those are still some pretty good numbers though.

Tell that to Mayweather fans who claim he made 20 mill from the WWE and 15 mill for being on BET's Iron Ring.

Vince was hoping to generate $25 million in sales, I hope they weren't actually thinking he'd pay Floyd about 80% of that just to show up and "wrestle" for 5 minutes in a joke of a match?

Tyson, who was very controversial at the time of his appearance, was paid $3.5 mil and he was/is an icon, good or bad, in boxing. Floyd probably earned $5mil or so, but $20 mil was a ridiculous figure from the jump.

It was announced on Raw before Wrestlemania that he was actually getting 3 million.

Don't forget, when you do ppv you lose about 40-50% of the revenue in distribution expenses to the distributors and cable / satellite affiliates.

A good question is: WHY DID THEY SAY 20MILL IN THE FIRST PLACE?

Was it a part of the 'storyline' with him and Big Show? What was the purpose of lying when the actual figure would be out there in a matter of time? Was it to BOOST Floyds ego? Really....what was the point of saying how much he'd make if it wasn't even true?
