I'm not asking who you think will win the fight if it comes off, but rather who you think will start as the betting favorite.

Pavlik because he's young, american and a puncher and Calzaghe will be coming down in weight (probably) and looked shit against Hopkins

Calzaghe.
Less so if he's 37 by the time they fight.
Reason: Most objective analysis of this potential fight has Pavlik's come forward open power-punching style tailor-made for Calzaghe's counter-punching and handspeed.
Calzaghe. Nobody at Super Middleweight would be favourite over Calzaghe.

Calzaghe will be at a weight he's fought his entire career at bar one fight, whereas Pavlik will be moving up in weight....

Explain in a couple of short paragraphs how Pavlik and Hopkins are similar boxers. Thanks in advance.

up and then back down is never a good idea, especially for a fighter who claims to have been killing themselves to make weight for the past few years

If Hopkins can floor Calzaghe with one punch, Pavlik can knock him out with one punch. Pavlik is a huge middleweight with devastating power, a telephone pole jab, and a good workrate. I dont think Pavliks suspect chin will come into play much in this fight, Joe's slaps are not going to hurt Pavlik at all. This match would be very interesting, and I hope we see it later this year or early next year.

Calzaghe should be a big favourite and this is coming from a Calzaghe "hater".

I agree with all of this except for Pavlik's 'suspect chin' - he's touched the canvas for one-half of a tick in his entire career. The guy's chin is as solid as it gets.

That might be true if someone was actually gaining weight to move up a division. When they are simply have a fight where they are taking off less water weight to make a weigh in than they have previously, I fail to see the relevance.
And lots of people claim to be killing themselves to make weight, but Calzaghe was a pound and a half inside for Kessler, I don't think it's an issue.

???
He's been KDed 3 times, and needed the full 8 to get up from Taylor's KD. McCart and Zuniga were flash KDs though.

Fair enough, I'm not a Pavlik nuthugger, but I do like the guys personality, and he has one hell of a heart and punch, he really can be a big star with the right people behind him.

Watch that fight again he does not need the full 8, he gets up almost immediatley after taking many flush shots.
Calzaghe will be a slight favourite, closer than it should be. However, a lot of people are buying into Pavlik, and the bookies will protect their assets.

Pavlik was up by the count of 2 or 3, he didn't need the full 8 to get up from the Taylor KD. Pavlik has bad balance and chicken legs but his chin is rock solid.

he takes 4 flush shots, after having taken a couple more in the sequence prior, and then gets right up.

Zag is the LHW Champion of the World, he should be the betting favorite. Doesn't mean I'll be betting on him though.

I think you analysis is way off.
Joe Calzaghe would most likely box his way to a close SD victory over Pavlik, but I could see the decision going the other way. Joe Calzaghe doesn't get hit enough to be knocked out, and is far more experianced than anybody Pavlik has ever fought. That coupled with the fact Joe Calzaghe's prime weight is super-middle, and he possess faster hands than Pavlik, I would say you're stretching to predict a KO for the Ghost.

Yeah, but Pav has ALWAYS been the under dog, in every "Big" fight he's come to. And he's never lost either. So I like that formula.

Calzaghe by a wide margin, and rightfully so too.

pavliks power is quite a bit stronger than hopkins. They are both orthodox that fight with a big right hand. only difference pavlik will throw three times as many punches as hopkins did. Granted pavliks accuracy is not what hopkins is but he would still land more and they would be severe to calzaghe. Pavlik by brutal KO

Its completely different. Calzaghe is open to counter-punches because of the way he throws his punches. Hopkins was able to take advantage of that. Pavlik doesn't have the ring smarts, accuracy, and timing to land the kind of punches Hopkins was landing. Pavlik is a "get off first" type of fighter, and Calzaghe thrives on these guys.
