These 2 styles are my favorites. The swarmers are known for there relentless pressure, workrate, power, and stamina. This style is really exciting. Its suited for shorter fighters who must have a good if not iron chin because of the punishment they must take to give it. These type of fighters are known for short primes and start declining during their 30s. I feel for this reason they get underated in h2h match ups.

Boxer Punchers unlike the pure boxers focus on setting up their shots for the ko when the opening. He combines the power with the skills of a boxer. I feel this style is better suited than the swarmer for long careers though I love swarmers a lot more.

Who are some of your favorite fighters with these styles? Here is two of my favorite swarmers rocky marciano and joe frazier.

My favorite swarmers includes Marciano.

My favorite boxer-puncher is Hearns.

I think an important thing to note in H2H matchups, both real and mythical, is that swarmers are pretty much incapable of fighting going backwards. If they do, it's probably not swarming...the 'swarming' style depends alot on cornering, crowding, and general manipulation of the opponent that is very hard to achieve with ring generalship of the backfoot variety.

In my opinion, the boxer-puncher is the best suited for a long career. Lennox Lewis is the perfect example, George Foreman is another. It's interesting how Foreman switched from a style that was more "slugger" oriented to a very methodical boxer-puncher in his comeback. Power is the last thing to go, and technique can be built upon for a career, to a certain point (the Mongoose is a great example of this).

Schmeling is my favorite boxer/puncher, Louis comes in second. Duran and Hearns are both great awesome, too. My favorite swarmers are Dempsey, Armstrong, Ketchel and Frazier.

Great examples! hearns was a great boxer puncher the way he set up his shots to take out duran and Cuevas show this. I agree that 40 year old foreman did seem to shorten his punches more than in his younger days.

ray robinson is another boxer puncher I enjoy watching. He really set up his punches very well and threw a crisp left hook. Lamotta could put really put on the pressure and slip punches very well, he gets underated in this aspect because people believe he just ate every punch with iron chin as his defense. I think the same thing goes with marciano.

Swarmers usually start declining before they turn 30, not during their 30s.

Yes swarmers usually go down hill the quickest because they have to put so much into their fighting style. It's physically very demanding.

The greatest style of all if the swarmer-puncher. When they get the balance between the two right they are extremely difficult to beat.

The most entertaining match-up of styles, I agree. Ali and Frazier, LaMotta and Robinson, would anybody agree with Tyson and Buster Douglas? In that, the only way you were going to beat Tyson was to be fast and accurate, to catch him on the way in and to have enough on those shots, first with your jab, then with your cross and your hook and whatever else. Remember the uppercuts Buster Douglas landed?
