guess there's already a thread or more, but i can't find. i wonder, did buchanan win any rounds on your scorecards, or what fight was i watching? i mean, there were enough close rounds, but in the end, i guess duran took the edge in every one of them. looking at it, not buchanan him any round seems a bit far fetched, but on the other hand...

Without watching the fight again to actually score it i would say:

About 2 rounds where Duran landed some huge shots and really dominated.

About 3 or 4 that were close enough to go either way

The rest clear, competitive rounds for Duran

The scorecards for it were pretty spot-on.

It wouldn't be that far fetched not to have Buchanan winning any rounds, though the fight was certainly not a one-sided beating ala Duran vs Moore.

I agree. Buchanan looked like he was in the fight for almost all of it. Remember, Buchanan was a superb boxer who had beaten Ismael Laguna among others. Just his misfortune to have his reign overlap with Duran's early prime.

Ans just a shame that Duran had to win this foolish way.

I have a problem with how Duran won (by low blow). He still would have been one of the best boxers of all time.

I was ringside at that fight in the Garden. That nut-crusher was no stray shot. That Buchanan's not a gelding is beyond me.

Worthy of disqualification?

First time I'd ever seen a fighter try to drive someone's nuts out through the top of his head, PL.

that was the first fight i can remember watching. back home on summer vacation 9 years old. with all the buzz about duran fighting for a title.
i remember how everyone went crazy when the fight ended. i was hooked.

after watching the fight years later now with knowledge af the sport, at the very least duran should have been penalized a point for the low blow after the bell, and would not have disagreed if he were disqualified. that was a vicious nut shot.

I am Surprised that Buchanan did not arrive back home to Bonny scotland showing 3 Adam's Apples !! If i recall not only was the shot foul, it was doubly so, striking just after the bell ?

Pity Ken never got a Rematch, but After Being Ambushed by Dejusus, I think thats where the Fans Focus went, Revenge and a Decider, with Ken left out in the cold a bit.

The thing to me is that Duran's people would never give Buchannan rematch. He tried to get one, could not.

Buchanan landed some nice punches at the very end of the round, then followed up after the bell.

Duran retaliated with the low blow.

Only if we look at the end of all other rounds like to this one. The picture will then be clear.

Buchanan won two maybe three rounds, but Duran dominated.
