I think that Shaun George in this situation was underrated ... from what i'm watching his speed and movements are far superior than Byrd's ... I think Bryd if anything should've built himself up against someone else - maybe fune tuned his skills a bit and work on his quickness and hand speed ... i'm sure that he was used to fighting slower - stronger guys and was overwhelmed by the speed more than anything.

Klitschko, then Povetkin ended Byrd's career. If Byrd can't beat this guy, he can't beat anyone now.

i was asking myself the same question..why didnt he stop at cruiser instead of draining himself to 174 lbs...anyways,i think he is done and should retire.

Yup, that's exactly what he said.
Byrd was fading badly as it was. In comparison to his peak years, his footspeed, reflexes, and defense were a fraction of what they once were and this was only magnified by the fact he lost 40 pounds and had to face a younger, stronger, quicker opponent. He had no defense for the right hand.

Shocking.
It wasn't shocking, Shaun George is an up and coming light-heavyweight who flew under the radar. Many people underestimated him, I didn't though, I knew he was going to win.

Yeah I can defenitily believe this after watching the video. If you look at his movement in the first round after he takes the first couple of punches its way off. The first thing that came to mind was that his walking looks like mine does after I've been on the bike for an hour - springy and awkward. Thought he would have had more resistance then this. Like even a shot Gatti against Gomez didn't burnout that quickly.

Byrds corner should've called it when he got the Bambi legs. You gotta protect your man above all.

I'm sure that was on their mind, but hoping for a gift from the gods in the form of a decision was probably also on their mind, and protecting Byrd from a second consecutive HW loss.
I clicked on it... but then when i saw chris i realised i really have no desire to see that so stoped it, im truly heartbroken that he got battered....
its just sad

Byrd gave it a hell of an effort despite getting broken down. Thats the sad part. He's just not what he was:nono The speed adjustment to LHW didnt go well at all.

ESB: Can a fight with Chris Byrd happen?
James Toney: (Raising his voice and initially addressing his entourage) You hear this shit? The Chris Byrd fight was suppose to happen the night before the Superbowl…in Detroit. But you know what, he did that shit in his last fight, everything got cut off. He killed himself. And anyway, I hope you send this message to Chris Byrd: Quit having your wife talk for you, Piggie Smalls. His wife’s name is Piggie Smalls Byrd.

Toney is a punk. He braggs about him having "heavyweight balls" and talks shit about Byrd. Well guess what, Byrd stepped in the ring with a Klitschko 3 times, with Ibeabuchi, Tua and a lot of others. When Toney twice got a gift title shot from both Klitschko's in a time he needed them pretty bad, what happened? He turned them down.

Jay Nady said "I think you overtrained" what do you guys think? He didnt overtrain. He had no business down at 75. Physically his body was accustomed to the weight. To loose that amount of weight and conditioning at his age bearing in mind the wear and tear on him after his fights with Vlad and Potkevin was courting with disaster. When i saw his picture and saw how gaunt he looked i knew his conditioning was horrible. Byrds face was skeletal. It was a dam shame he never stopped off at 200lbs. All the guy left had was his huge heart. I hope he hangs them up.

Toney does have a point. I've stated, as did others, that Tracy intervenes at times when she should not have. Also, who is truly directing the career of Byrd, Chrissy or Tracy? This is a pet peeve many have with Byrd. Tracy comes across as a domineering and babbling yak mouth (i.e. Gin Mosley) who has little knowledge or interest in the sport other than Chris's paycheck. Married or not I find it rather repugnant for a man to allow his wife or girlfriend to be his mouthpiece, especially regarding a mans business affairs. If Chrissy can't speak for himself then inevitably he invites criticism.

i dont think george is too bad to lose too...
byrd left it until he was too old to do this...if he was 31/32 i expect he would have done much better..

Byrd was always very brave, and i've always admired him, but this is the way the thing works. I'm glad for George, now he gets his chance.
I think the fight would have been stopped after the second KD if it wasn't for Byrd's great reputation within the sport. He should be proud of the reputation he's built and get on with his life with a fine boxing career behind him. Time to put it to bed.
Thanks for posting the video Kobe, I missed the fight.

Toney's a prick. Flow, you sound like a fairly typical misogynist. She's entitled to speak for her husband if she chooses.
Toney was always happy to let Jackie Kallen speak for him, and his mother. Does that not deserve some criticism?
Anyway, what's Toney done? He never won a HW belt without juicing - Byrd's a better man than he is.
Call me a misogynist, but that's the truth of the matter. I'm not the first one to say this. Tracy dictates Chris's business affairs. I guarantee the buck stops with Tracy - she has the last word in Chris's house, I mean Tracy's house. :yep

I'd still say that going down to LHW was the right move for Byrd. I mean he didn't have no future in the HW division, so he had to try something completely different. It just didn't work out. But at least he tried. He had a great career and he should retire now. The fact that he managed to come down to LHW from HW demands a lot of respect in itself.
I never really liked watching Byrd, but one has to respect him - he was competitive with the best HWs for years, guys that were much bigger and stronger than him, he always fought his heart out, took the biggest shots from Klitschko and Ibeabuchi and still got up. He beat some good HWs and even held two belts.

Man he got pole axed, he's chin's gone along with he's skills, simple as. Was he's shoulder dislocated or something?? I thought it looked weird when he got up from the second knockdown.
Good thing I put 50 Vcash on the under 12 rounds :D.

I am absolutely astonished as to how weight draining can damage a fighter so much , even a great one..Its hardly surprising to be honest. Boxing is a physically demanding sport. When you loose that much weight your bound to loose alot pf physical conditioning. Byrds face looked horrible at the weight. His been 200lbs since practically turning pro. To drop that kind of weight 15 years later is bound to have a drastic effect on your body at his age. I couldnt understand why he elcted to make 175 in the first place. If he`d made 200lbs the transition would have much more graceful. But bearing in mind his recent performances and his erroding skills its hardly surprising that the result was so bad. Dam shame as Byrd was a great warrior. But its surely time to hang them up.

Toney didnt have a career like that at HWYeha but Toneys career at heavy has been only a few years. For all intents and purposes Byrd turned pro as a heavy bar a few early fights.

You can even make out Byrd saying "Stop it. Stop it." when Nady is counting the second knockdown.
That penultimate knockdown was nasty, his legs went totally.
I'm in the camp that felt Byrd had been slowly on the slide since his great 2002, beating Tua and Holyfield. But I didn't expect this outcome.

I never liked Byrd fights and his constant religious chat, but he deserved his rep. as a very gutsy fighter.
Sad to see him apologising to his dad etc there, but really he can be very proud of his career and nobody with a brain will hold that loss against him, he's totally done.

Everyone seems to be talkin about how shot Byrd is, but I haven't seen too much credit given to Shaun George, who fought a masterful fight. He trained hard for this one.. sparring against current/former champions, Tarver and Vassily Jirov.
Timing, handspeed, workrate.. he boxed, he brawled.. it was all there for George. Byrd never had a chance. Tarver even called the outcome in the FNF studio before the fight started.
George is too much for these older LHWs ... Hop said he wouldn't fight anyone under 35 again b4 the Calzaghe fight ... Hop would be hard pressed to survive George's speed and power at 43 ... Calzaghe would get destroyed easily ... no way for him to get any respect from George ... don't think Tarver would win either ... he looked horrible fighting the lousy Clinton Woods
