hmm.. i can see how you lost, but you seemed to have the better form, she was just taking wild shots could have really gone either way if u ask me. Nice work all the same, just getting inside the ring is half the battle.

Amateur boxing, amateur scoring, a necessary evil, I wouldn't read much into it. It's become a tagsport.
You did look very composed, good form, good technique. I like how you go body-head. Some fighters do that naturally, some don't. Good strong finish.
What would annoy the bejesus out of me is the ringside commentary. 'Let's have Amy put in the hundreds of hours, and we'll just pitch on the day and have our opinions'. Aah, I'm sure they meant well.
Overall, you looked very competent. :good

What irks me is the scoring. They claimed Amy only scored 7 points. Which as you can see, is blatantly incorrect-from where I sit it looked like Amy scored 7 or more in the 4th round alone, when her opponent was simply running away from her, trying desperately not to engage and holding when Amy got close. Without going into details, one of the judges was blatantly biased, but because this was Amy and our coaches' first time at nationals and didn't know the procedure for filing a grievance. I don't know if this tape shows it, but as they were getting out of the ring, the judge sitting by the neutral corner at the steps? He actually gave her opponent a thumbs up and said "still pretty Johanna". So someone (him) wasn't clicking when Amy was landing punches, doing it just once in each of the last 3 rounds to make it seem like he wasn't being biased. Either way, it was a learning experience and she'll do better at Ringside. Any of the coaches who were there-the regional team coach, our people in the stands who you could hear, and the coach from Helena who's son is going to the Olympic Trials all though Amy won. So what more can you do besides your best; especially when the good old boys club that exists in USA Boxing won't reward you for it.

just getting inside the ring is half the battle. great post.
Very good Amy, you seem to be dedicated to boxing which is necessary to be succesful. Best of luck to you.

when you moved forward using your jab you were easily winning. but you seemed to step back with your back leg then step to throw it, so basically you were backing up then throwing it in retreat. also you lean to your right as soon as you see punches coming, id like to see you lean to the right then roll under and throw a left hook. as well i didnt see too many quick 1-2's to keep her at the end of your punches. aside from that you looked good and moved well. good job!

See, Amy? I'm not the only one harping on the jab!
i swear to god i heard a guy yell " Kill that ass amy"
a question for the amateur fighters:
Do you have to supply your own headgear and jersey thing? what if you and your opponent both have blue headgear and blue shirts? do you have to buy a set of red and a set of blue?
At Nationals they supplied the gloves but you have to have your own headgear etc. My coach has red and blue gloves depending on the corner, but I've judged fights where kids are wearing the same color and it's really difficult.
See, Amy? I'm not the only one harping on the jab!
 It was looking better this time though.

i think hes referring to throwing a lead punch with your power hand. ie Roy Jones throwing a quick straight right to catch someone off guard. i could be incorrect tho...
Ok, I thought maybe that's what he meant. But wasn't sure.
