Okay, here's a topic that we don't see often here on esb, I don't know if you're interested in trainers at all on here, I am sure some of you are.
Anyway here's my top five current trainers.

1. Emanuel Steward - Wladimir Klitschko, Kermit Cintron.. two of his recent guys doing miracles.
2. Freddy Roach - Say what you want about Freddy, he may have a few bad recent fights behind him, but he's a great trainer!
3. Teddy Atlas - Loved, Hated and criticized. I think Teddy has had some nice moments, but his best is yet to come in my opinion(as a trainer). What haven't worked out thus far is his personal distaste for some individuals clouded his professional judgement.
4. Jack Mosley - Maybe Shane is the reason Jack is here, but we all have to know that Jack made Mosley a great fighter, from the beginning... Jack deserves a spot here.
5. Floyd Mayweather Sr. - Here's a good trainer, he's done a good work with Chad Dawson. Some say Roger Mayweather is the better trainer, but thus far Floyd have shown that he can train other fighters then Floyd jr.

Criticize this list, I know it's kind of a crazy list however each and every one of the names on my list are great trainers with great years ahead.
Like LL said in a recent interview, some of these active fighters don't want to drop their amatuer trainers for a professional one, with good reasons because maybe they have a bond or whatnot.
Buddy McGirt is another good trainer with a bad streak, I think he's a good trainer with a specific style, but like you have seen with Brewster he obviously didn't make him better.
Eddie Mustafa Muhammad is also another guy with great potential.

If I forgot to mention someone with good recent history enlighten me.

RIP Eddie Futch and Cus D'Amato.

Not that I know of recently, the JETS :nut
I think he should go back to training, instead of hosting FNF.
But maybe due to his unique character it's hard to get someone to cooperate with.

I don't see too many American fighters putting up with his approach for any length of time

The only thing of note he's done as a pro trainer is when he allegedly "willed" Moorer to victory. He's probably had the least success of the former Tyson trainers, and that inclues Aaron "Balloon with Tap Water on the Eye" Snowell.

Teddy should stick to commentating and analyzing, which he is better at.

Nacho might actually be better than Manny. Freddie is up there too. I can't remember his name right now, but Baldomir's trainer is pretty good.

Amilcar Brusa is a good trainer, didn't he also train Carlos Monzon all his career?

Joe Goosen usually flies under the radar when top trainers are mentioned. His work with the Ruelas brothers years ago is worth remembering as well as turning a horrible Mount Whitaker into a decent heavyweight for a while Diego Corrales had some of his biggest wins under Goosen. The Mayweathers are complete jokes as trainers.

Joe Goosen usually flies under the radar when top trainers are mentioned. His work years ago with the Ruelas brothers was pretty good stuff. Also he turned a horrible Mount Whitaker into a decent heavyweight for a couple of years. Diego Corrales had some of his most impressive wins under Goosen. The MAyweathers are horribly overrated.Sr never built someone from the ground up.Dawson had years working with Birmingham,I don't see anything special that Sr has given him. That clown Roger is a bigger joke.Remember his "work" with Rachman in his fight with Ruiz? In a career of bad performance's that had to be Hasim's worst.

no disrespect to american trainers but time after time after time european trainers are always overlooked despite the fact that europeans are beginning to dominate in numbers at least the higher weight divisions.

i rate emaunuel stewart as a knowledgable trainer/gives the fightewrs in his corner calm and IMO the correct advice , does not let the hangers on put in to much imput to keep the corner focused and obviously in the gym he knows his stuff and refines already good fighters.

dont see him bringing through any proteges from scratch .

when i listen and watch the cornerwork in some american fights i think some of the highly touted corners are very average.

John David Jackson is also a fantastic trainer to add to the list.

Why doesn't Brendan Ingle get a mention??? He built the following world champions from the ground up:

Naseem Hamed
Jonny Nelson
Junior Witter
Herol Bomber Graham

Also worked with Robin Reid and Ryan Rhodes

Ingle is good. Oscar Suarez deserves a dishonorable mention.

i really like calzaghe. yes he has a son that is one of the best boxers of his era and has a unique way of fighting but you look at the other fighters in the gym and he has taken them to belts and title shots and these are people who could be considered average at best.

yes he has lost a few fights this year but not every fighter is like JC and be 45-0 gavin rees did not deserve a belt but he got in the ring and won it. enza did not listen and tried fighting the way he wanted to and not what he was told. Enzo cal may speak alot of crap but i tink he really knows how to train a fighter to win. how long did he go in his gym without having a fighter loose. one thing with a enzo calzaghe fighter is if they do not get KO'd they will put everything into a fight and will work to the last bell

We might have to add Ann Wolfe to that list soon..
Kirkland was smokin' Sat. Night. (Maybe her methods are the future)

Kirkland is definitly where he is because of her

If you don't mind being tortured to be prepared for whatever comes on fight night then that's the trainer for you

She reminds me of Roy Jones Sr and how he would make RJJ fight bigger fighters and sometimes with one arm tied behind his back

The Ingles. When a fighter gets that unorthadox style right its an incredible thing to see, like Herol Graham or Naseem Hamed. Very hard to master, but incredibly dangerous once mastered. I dont think any featherweight in history could cope with a prime, Ingle-trained Naseem Hamed.

and then the rest ...

My top 5 are

1. Floyd Mayweather Sr.
2. Emmanuel Stewart
3. Freddie Roach
4. Jeff Mayweather
5. Roger Mayweather

Okay that list isn't accurate and IMO. But what seprerates those trainers from the rest is that they usually have their fighters prerpared and know how to get the potential out of a fighter. Those 5 can work with many type of styles (not everyone though) and most importantly have their fighters prepared. Of course their is many other good trainers out there, but my list is strictly based on reputation. And their not for everyone, but usually the best fighters go to them.

Funny you say Eddie Mustafa Muhammad, but Chad Dawson has regressed since he's been with him.
