View Full Version : *~* Shake's G-O-A-T Welterweight Tournament *~* Nominate!

How his works:

You can nominate three fighters -- nominations will influence seeding. The sixteen fighters with the most nominations will make the bracket, and will square off in four round robins (best 2 advance) before eight fighters enter a semi-random knockout phase. The winner is decided by a 24-48 hour voting period in which everyone can participate.

After this tournament is concluded I'll consider doing other weights. For now, nominate your three welterweights to contend for the title of Greatest Welterweight of All-Time.

Note: Any fighter that has ever fought at welterweight, even one match, is eligeable, but the fact that he may not be at his best weight will be mentioned and must be taken into consideration by voters.

I can't see any other welters beating these men, and I won't hear otherwise. No way Armstrong could have dealt with any of these guys... Noone else either. PBF? I'll pretend I didn't read that...

1) Sugar Ray Robinson

2) Roberto Duran (Beat SRL in Montreal. How could Cholo be excluded?)

3) Benny Leonard (Deliberately got himself disqualified when he had Jack Britton knocked out for the WW Title. Handled Britton far more easily than Mickey Walker did. Britton took the 12 round newspaper decision in his first match with Walker.)

I'll put in my own nominations for:

Roberto Duran
Thomas Hearns
Floyd Mayweather Jr.

I like different styles. They probably won't all make it, though. :D

Barney Ross
Jimmy McLarnin
Wilfred Benitez

(All three make my top 16)

I'd like to see Billy Graham up there, very underrated fighter. Doubt it will happen, so I'll stick to the three above who are more likely to make it. :good
