View Full Version : Anyone backing Lockett?

Has Lockett got ANY chance against Pavlik. He's recently said that he and Enzo have figured out Pavlik who they say is predictable. Can the Rocket pull of the upset ?

"Pavlik's brilliant at what he does," said Cwmbran's Lockett, a huge underdog for the 7 June bout in Atlantic City.
"But he's no Floyd Mayweather, Joe Calzaghe or Miguel Cotto, he doesn't have their all-round game.
"We know what he'll do, come forward at a pace and put it all through the left hand. We've got a game plan for it."

He has almost no chance. I have no idea how he got this shot against Pavlik, I just hope he gets through it without getting hit too much. As for the "puncher's chance", I just don't see it at all.

I think he's capable of pulling It off the upset, Taylor being explosive In the 1st fight had Pavlik down but he was too negative to finish him and Lockett Is an explosive puncher. Lockett's got good straights and left hook too.

Pavlik's limited In the defense and technique department.

My only worry Is Lockett's record has too many journeymen tuneups on, but he has the style to upset Pavlik and has a good chin.

The Middleweight champs aren't exactly strong champs either who stand out very much.

Lockett is technically nowhere near as good as Taylor...so bit of a bad comparison there imo.

If Kelly can walk through and beat up a big puncher like Miranda, them im sure he can demolish Lockett inside 5 rounds.

It would be one of the biggest upsets in boxing history if Lockett beat Pavlik.

Lockett marks up badly around the eyes and if Pavlik does'nt put him out cold with a legit KO the fight will be stopped when Locketts face is looking like a raw hamburger. :yep

I to believe Pavlik is predictableand pretty one paced, but he will still be to much for Lockett.

This is an ideal time for Enzo to have a look at Pavlik for Joes fight with him.

Pavlik in p4p terms sucks but he's huge at the weight.... Lockett is pretty small, I'm right behind him and want him to win but its going to be very tough. Really looking forward to it though.

Rhodes caused Lockett problems with his power and Pavlik probably has more power (although not the same style) as Rhodes.

Rhodes has superb power (especially at LMW).

So I guess Pavlik has greater power than Rhodes. But whatever Kimbo Slice is the best :scaredas:

Lockett is slow as fuck, easy to hit and his much vaunted power is in reality managing to knock over a few tomato cans. He'll be doing well not to get banjoed inside 2 rounds.
I think Pavlik is getting way overhyped now but in all honesty I want him to win this.

How good is Pavlik? He is still a relativley new World Champion he has more to prove before what start regarding him as a really top fighter. Ok he beat Miranda and Taylor - but they are two opponnets lets see how he gets on against a few more big names.

Why do you want a skinny redneck to beat the Rockett man?

Locketts not super fast but he does have explosive speed and power to cause Pavlik problems.

Put it this way I would put any money on it.

However i am getting behind him, you gotta give him big props. he could have fought WBU bums and wated for Pavlik to move up next year and fight for the vacant title, but no hes going to what might as be the home town, of the number 1 in the division, a guy who has knocked out all but 2 opponents, whos ranked in the top 10 of everyone P4P and thats what allot of fighters that are more skilled and have better records would not be prepared to do.

Lockett has already gained my respect by taking the fight, and if he puts up a good show he will probs get another title shot next year, if not set up some decent domestic fight with Paul Smith, Elcock, Macklin, Eastman or even Duddy.

He must be getting at least a £100K for the Pavlik fight.

Why fight 20 bums defending your shitty WBU title to a earn a total of £100K when you can fight Pavlik and earn £100K for one fight. He has nothing to lose and has done nothing to earn the shot.

Just over £250k gross is very good money for a limited fighter like Lockett.

If he makes £5K a WBU defence, then the Pavlik windfall is the equivalent of 50 WBU defences.

Most people's logic seems to be "Lockett won't win, so I won't support him." Pathetic. :barf

Here is a British boxer looking to pull off the upset of the year and win the linear middleweight title, but he's getting far too little love on this forum. So what if it's three to one, four to one or a million to one against? Get behind number one, I say. :bbb

i have been all aboard the Pavlik express for a while now. i just hope lockett does not get blown away in the opening stanza. this is a horrible missmatch, lockett has zero chance, niche, nil, nada.

for all of you who think he has a punchers chance, watch pavlik v miranda. miranda is a puncher and he gets it handed to him.

you should come to the same conclusions as me.:deal

From what I've read about him talking of Pavliks slowness I think Lockett is gonna come out and try and fight in the style Gavin rees won his title. Only problem is Lockett isn't Joe Calzaghe, and that style wont work for him.

"Most" is not enough. Lockett can definitely knock Pavlik into next year, provided he has a whole country behind his punches.

I believe he is getting £150K - 5 times his best purse. He said his best purse was £30K. That is indeed a Kings ransom and thy Welsh people should rejoice.

Should lockett win then he will feast at the Kings table. A rematch should net hin £1m plus. Go forth Lockett and launch thy rockets. To battle we go!!!!

I think his face will be a bit of a mess after 6 or 7 rounds, he puffs up quite severely.

The more I think about it, the more I worry about this fight.
I am not happy with the fact that Gary Lockett has been brought in simply to get a pasting at the hands of Kelly Pavlik.
He may well be getting the payday of a lifetime, but that just makes it virtually impossible for Gary to turn down what will probably be the hiding of a lifetime.
