Ok, Alexeev is universally acknowledged to be the heir appaernt to the cruiserweight division. He has fought mostly easy compitition so far though. So who should be his first step up in competition?

This upcomming saturday he will square off against Louis Azille on a fight card in Germany.
I for my part would like to watch him take on someone like Wayne Braithwaite or his stable mate Alexy Kuziemski. Both the Polish olympian and the Jamacian toughman would pose a serious test for Alexeev IMO.

Jamaican toughman? Do you mean O'neill Bell?

Thought that Braithwaite stems from Jamaika. I was wrong. He stems from Guayana.

I agree. Braithwaite would be a very good step up right now. For that matter maybe Bell would be too.

I think they will put him in with at least two more soft opponents before going for a guy like Braithwaite and certainly no Bell. Maybe someone like Troy Ross.

Bell would be good. He has the power to test his chin, but is technically limited enough so that Alekseev will have a clear edge.

Two words:
Ismail Abdoul
Hes probably one of the greatest gatekeepers in boxing right now. And hes a cruiserweight fighter and it will give Alexeev a fight that will show Alexeev past level. If you know what I mean. A lot of cruiserweights and (light heavys before) fought him couse he is the gatekeeper of the divisions. Haye, Adamek, Wlodarczyk, Kostecki, Kraj, Huck.... list goes on.

I've never heard of him but that sounds like a good opponant for Alexeev.

Frankly his last oppnent is on the Abdoul level, he should fight someone the next notch up.

Will be tricky as he's banged up for the next 3.5 years after being sentenced last November for fraud & extortion. He was also recently sentenced for beating someone up in 2005, so add another year to the above sentence.
Looks like the end of his boxing career.

I still maintain he should fight Bell.

Oh?
I didn't know that. So I guess Abdoul is pretty much done.

Munrose or braitwaite would be good fights. Bell is pushing on but can give prospects very stern test's.
abdoul is not a step up , just a tough chinned fighter who goes rounds.
he would not be competitive just a glorigfied sparring seession,..
i agree with odo
braithwaite still brings a little danger which will make aleexev have to be carefull of making mistakes as he goes about his work
against abdoul you can make as many mistakes as you want , abdoul is so conservative he will not attempt to puncish you for them.
in learning fights you want to cut out mistakes to a minumum for when you get your title shot, you are not still making sloppy careless errors which to many easy fights brings.
cantatore would be ok as well.

Vincenzo Rossito may be a good follow up fight, followed by Andre Purlette, then Vincenzo Cantatore, Jean Marc Monrose, Vasily Jirov, Emmanuel Nwodo, Valery Brudov, He should be ready for the WBC Champ then.

Yea but Abdoul is like the gatekeeper of the Cruisers.

Bell would be too much for Alexeev at this point. There's a good chance we would see a replay of Braithwaite's lasts fight against the Cuban, should Alexeev vs bell happen now.
In 2009 it will be a whole different story.

I dont think so,axe! Alexeev is not an inexeperienced young Cuban.Hernandez cant hold a candle to the Russian in terms of firepower, experience, and mental toughness.Alexeev is as cool as a cucumber inside a box ring.A cold blooded killer machine without any emotions. He would have murdered Braithwaithe if he had been the one who had knocked down and hurt Braithwaite in the very first round of their encounter.
Bell too much for Alexeev?? I dont think so! Alexeev's stamina is still a question mark, but I for my part wouldnt worry a lot about the outcome of Alexeev vs Bell. Alexeev had faced much better opponents at the amateurs before he turned pro.

Much better fighters than the former undisputed champion? Hard to buy...and I hardly think Solis qualifies, seeing as how rotund he has become nowadays.
I'm a fan as well Odo, I just hope Alexeev is not rushed.
The amateurs are the amateurs, the pros are a whole different game. Many times have I seen an amateur legend taken apart by a solid pro.
Alexeev needs a few more fights before stepping in with the big fish imo, to give himself the best shot at winning.

I for my part would always bet my money on Alexeev,Solis, and Zuev against Cunningham whether they fought at the pros or at the amateurs.
I am not sold on Cunningham at all. I give him props to teaching Huck a lesson in slick boxing, but lets be fair he didnt look that great and convincing against a nervous youngster who wanted to impress his home crowd and relied too much on his firepower. I am positive that Huck will win the rematch in one or two years. Besides Cunningham looked horrible against Wlodarczyk, a fighter who needed a gift decision to claim a victory over Sergej Karanevich and who wouldnt go more than 5 rounds with Alexeev.
Solis,Zuev, and Alexeev are cut from the same wood, axe! Alexeev will soon rule the roostr, and Solis will soon be the king at McDonalds.
Cant believe how much weight the Cuban has put on since his escape from his Carribean island!! I still think that he will make some noise at heavy weight, but I somehow doubt that he will be a truly big shot there.

After another look at Alexeev, well, he looks like the real deal.
