I'm serious , wtf was that shit ? EliteXC is fucked on the long run imo. Hate to say it but Dana White was right.
They don't have much of a chance banking on Slice to carry their company.....the writing is on the wall.

What made this sad....Thompson lost his last 2 fights by big time KO. Still got a mainevent fight vs Kimbo. Then old Kimbo was in a life and death fight with Thompson who is not known as aground fighter at all. With in the end a total BS Stoppage

Poor Thompson...the guy sucks but he's got a big heart...and he gave it his best. Sucks for him that the ref had to fuck him over in order to save the org's cash cow.
Kimbo needs to work on his cardio + his ground game. A lot lot more.
Hell , kimbo vs gannon II seems like a bad idea now. Too risky.
Absolutely horrendous. What Gary Shaw was thinking, I will never know. For the morons he was fooling into thinking Kimbo was a good heavyweight...now you know. He can't even fool the idiots anymore.
The only time I want to see Kimbo again is when he's lying on his back, with his eyes rolled back in his head.

In terms of popularity maybe...but the quality is very questionable.

If Kimbo is the best thing for MMA, then it's going to go the way of The Womens Soccer league. Smart fans know that he is just there becuase of fight on You Tub. He has power and is a strong man. He will not have a big career in MMA. This fight tonight I feel hurt MMA to fans that realy don't know the sport. That is because the "NEW FACE" of MMA got lucky bigtme vs a stiff.

doesn't matter to me bc i am not really an mma fan. i prefer boxing by far....having said that if you want a sport to thrive you need to tap into mainstream sports fans. Kimbo is giving you that right now.

i was there. the booing was due to lack of action, mainly in the first round. the crowd gave an incredible standing ovation at the end of the 2nd. i don't know if that was caught on tv or not. the fans were genuinely pissed at the stoppage. i almost felt bad for the nj medical examiner guy because the chants of "asshole" were deafening. he probably never expected his night would turn into this.

The biggest thing helping them it was free television. Kimbo-Thompson should've been the warm up bout though and Lawlor should've been the main event.

No, he WAS doing that, past tense.
After people saw what they saw last night, not even the most clueless bastard cares.

Lack of action? It will always be like this in the beginning round unless ure inexperienced. Both fighters will come out and FEEL each other out. Sparring immitation can only go so far. They come out there, look for holes and movement and then they start attacking. Standard precedure. The more experienced people can do that faster. It's VERY annoying while watching it on TV.
I'll tell you what though, I know exactly why its like that watching it from stands, because you can barely see shit. The TV on top is too far to get a decent look. They can't see the technical aspect of what is going on. People are there trying to make up the lack of seeing anything the actual fight by building up the energy in the hall. Hence, the booing. Thats why my last MMA event life was first and probably last unless i get front row.

Hell , kimbo vs gannon II seems like a bad idea now. Too risky. How is he going to work on it? His a street brawler who has no professional fighting background? Just because Bas trains him doesnt mean his going to magically get a ground game. I dont understand what all the uproars about. Yeah the ref blew but Kimbo is exactly what he is just a Internet phenom that the hyoe machine got behind. He`ll come undone. Its only a matter of time.

How is he going to work on it? No one is hopeless. Even James Thompson has the potential to be a top 10 or at least top 20 under a totally different training system , which would be perfectly adapted for him. Kimbo is certainly no exception.
a street brawler who has no professional fighting background? Yes , but Kimbo's take down + guillotine move on Mercer was the result of a calculated gameplan. (afterall , Bas is training this guy)...It doesn't matter if he's a street brawler or not. Mark Hunt was a street brawler at one point in his life (before his muay thai career) , remember how Tyson was discovered ? at 13...
"by legendary boxing figure Cus D'Amato. D'Amato saw something special in his raw talent and arranged to have Tyson released into his custody. Within several years, D'Amato and his trainers groomed Tyson into a top boxing contender"
We all have to start somewhere and again , Kimbo's no exception to that rule. The real problem is (actually there's several problems)
1 Rutten is focusing too much on Kimbo's natural strength & not much else. And this is negligible aspect that has repercutions on the guy's abilities to deal with certain situations where he's outpowered by a guy who wants to keep him on the ground.
(Thompson proved it last night)
2 Rutten thinks he has found some sort of revelation of mma. A raw talent who'll crush everything in his way. But Kimbo ain't tyson , and worst of all...it's not boxing...and you know as much as i do that it's a sport where even the weakest , smallest fighters have a chance to pull a victory with an intelligent gameplan. (Royce Gracie was the first to demonstrate in ufc's early days)
Take a prime Tyson and try to replicate the same career he had in boxing only in mma. It won't happen. Because that's the nature of mma. You can't just rely on a single talent & your athleticism. If that'd be the case , the likes of Lesnar , Randleman , LeBanner , Antonio Silva , Sapp or Belfort would all be undefeated champs.
You know what Lesnar's team used to say prior to his mma debut , after a year of training ? That he'd be unstopable! (how deluded is that ? ) ...because no one would outpower him , because he'd be the best wrestler etc....blah blah blah...and we all know what happened.
even BJ Penn had a few reality checks in his career (vs Pulver in 2002 )...So did GSP (in 2004 vs Hughes , even though GSP is way more versatile and complete as a fighter)...
I've seen Bas Rutten's training. I've seen the stuff he's trying to achieve with this guy and even though the training itself is intense...even though he's trying to "generalise" all aspects of the game , it's still detrimental on kimbo's future in the mma scene.
Why ? For the very same reasons Crocop used to have back in 2001. (only difference is that crocop , unlike Kimbo was already an experience top kickboxer when he was fighting under mma rules)
But crocop used to concentrate too much on his advantages , his natural abilities , he would spend too much time on the things he already knew and not enough on his weaknesses).
Bas is making the very same mistake with Kimbo.
I'm no professional trainer , nor do i have the pretention to know more than a professional fighter such as Rutten , but i'm not totally ignorant either. And sometimes you have to tell it like it is...There really is a hole in kimbo's training sessions.
Either Rutten realises that he needs to do some major fucking changes for Kimbo's next fight and stop seeing him as some sort of magical cash cow with "raw talent"...or Kimbo will be history in a few months.
OR , Kimbo just needs to work with a different team.

Agreed 100%, the Lawler/Smith fight was great although the action started a bit late. Those Jersey fans suck and wouldn't know true MMA if it bit them in the ass. They all thought it was a Toughman competition.

When Shaw asked for a round of applause to Lawler & Smith they barely responded...............Jersey fans suck.

Yep, the booing was sickening, they must think it's TNA or WWE.

Boxingcar with all due respect Kimbo is 33 years old. His not going anywhere. We knew this when he turned pro. We knew this when he was fighting bums off the street. No amount of training and no amount of top quality trainers is going to make a shred of diffrence if he goes up against an elite fighter.
