Who's watching it?
Fan are already booing the first fight...I hate these fans
I had to turn my volume off. I can't stand listening to a bunch of drunken losers boo. Not the most exciting fight, no, but it's not like Kalib Starnes running around the cage.

Ooooh! Nice ending to that one! That'll teach ya to do a piss poor attempt at hooking in a leg lock. I suppose his corner will remind him after he wakes up.
That Gribsby fella looked just about dead there. Those were some brutal punches.

Yeah, that was some seriously cool stuff. Now, is that considered ground and pound? It was more like airborne pounding.

I think it's called getting lucky when the other guy gets sloppy. In the end it got the job done. lol

Mark Motherfucking Munoz!
Good god, this kid is going places. 4-0, trains with Urijah Faber.
Junior national champion freestyle wrestler, NCAA d1 champion, 5th in the world junior freestyle wrestler.
And he just pounded Chuck Grisby completely out.

Jeebus, nice KO from Munoz. (A guy that big is a tough assignment for your fourth MMA fight.)

Yeah, he fights below 155. UFC doesn't have a class below 155. It's just that simple.

okay, thanks you! UFC should add 145 lbs!

Yeah, and Grigsby has a slew of fights. Granted, they're not top notch competition, but he still has some seasoning to him. He's got a bunch of KOs and six submissions. So that, plus his awkward size, makes him a tough task for someone in their fourth fight.

Munoz definitely has a stong base on the ground - but his guard passing needs some work.
He played to his strengths in this fight and pounded out Grisby so he seems to be on the right track so far.

I'm sure the WEC is paying him awfully well these days, that's why he's in the WEC.
Plus, UFC doesn't focus so much on the lighter weights. WEC has kind of come along and snatched up the elite fighters at lighter weights, it seems. That being said, I'm sure Dana White would just love to get him the UFC.
Before long though (especially if he wins tonight), either Faber's going to have make some joint-organization fights or other fighters from other organizations are going to have to come to him. There's really no one left in teh WEC for him to fight if he beats Pulver.
Damn, how many hometown fighters are on this card?

Yeah, they bought it about 2 years ago (?) to showcase fighters in weight classes below 155. There just really isn't enough room in the UFC right now to add a bunch more weight classes, guys barely get 4 fights a year as it is.

Man, I am loving this. The double heel hook was hilarious. Punches. High kicks. Foot stomps. Knees in the clinch. Axe kicks. Heal hooks. Guillotines. Rear naked chokes. Triangles. I've seen just about everything attempted in the last 6 minutes. Beautiful.

06-02-2008, 01:22 AM
I was pulling hard for Pulver, but I thought he looked a little old. I thought the same thing in the Penn rematch. He shows the same signs as old boxers; they get in position to punch and then they just dont' pull the trigger. There were times when Faber was in a bad spot either off balance or at a bad angle and Pulver couldn't capitalize on it. He just wouldn't throw. His punches didn't have the snap they used to either and he seemed to be pushing a bit.
Still, Faber looked great. I don't know who is out there for him now. Who else is on top of the 145ers? Without Frank Edgar or someone else coming down, who can hang with the kid?
Filmnpuck
06-02-2008, 01:26 AM
I totally agree with Wilhelm. There were quite a number of times where I wanted Pulver to pull the trigger and he just wouldn't. Meanwhile, that right hand from Faber was on quick-fire all night. That shit was devastating.

Jens didn't pull the trigger enough, because Faber hit him with enough right hooks to make him hesitate.... plus he respected Faber too much, I think. It's understandable, because Faber can do so much. Then again, Faber definitely altered his style, out of respect to Pulver. It wasn't until the banging started to show on Jens' face that Faber started to come out of his shell - as it regards taking it to the ground.

Great night of fights. Torres/Maeda round 2 was one of the best rounds in MMA I have seen in sometime.
After a night to sleep on last night and let my emotions calm down a bit, I must say...that was still an AWESOME card
I think I like watching the WEC more than any other organization, their "big brother" UFC included.
I like the production value: it's simple. I like Frank Mir's insight. He's a little bit too excited at times ("Oh, it's in so deep he's not getting out!"....then the guy gets out), but he knows his stuff. I like the lower weight classes. These guys bring it and their cardio consistently holds up.

I totally agree about Frank Mir. The guy is right on about 95% of the time (except when he gets a little too excited, like you said, but it's kind of a likeable part of his personality... he's terrible at the in-ring interviews, though, good thing they got the new guy to take care of that).
I'd certainly rather watch a couple good prospects go at it in a lower weight class in the WEC than, say, that fight between Tim Silvia and Brandon Vera a few months back at HW in the UFC.

Fight of the year? I say so. Love Torres, represent Indiana! (barely)
He is sort of a reverse Anderson Silva. Anderson's striking is so scary it makes people want to go to the ground with him, so he developed an absolutely phenomenal ground game, so he doesn't mind being taken down, which helps his striking even more
Torres has a mind blowing ground game, so people want to stand with him, so he developed an incredible striking game, forcing people to take him to the ground sometimes.
