I suppose his totally focused and emotionless expression could put people off slightly and the tenacity and determination he shows.
Another could be just the daunting thought that you are about to step into the ring or cage with the best heavyweight in the world who has destroyed everyone hes fought and whose only loss was a bullshit cuts stoppage.

Fedor doesn't attempt to intimidate his opponents like some other fighter's, who act like they were just released from a cage. But I am sure his opponents fear him, as he is the best MMA fighter.
