View Full Version : The Current State of Mexican Boxing?

How do you rate the current state of Mexican boxing?

I dont think I have ever seen Mexican boxing so weak. Many of the best Mexican fighters have been getting owned as of late. It seems there has been many Asian (especially Fillipino) fighters making a wave throughout the lower weight classes as well.

JMM - lost to Chris John
Morales - lost to Raheem , then twice to Pacman
Barera - was destroyed by Pacman
Vargas- two crushing defeats to Mosley
Margarito- dominated
Castillo- knocked out
De La Hoya - lost 3 out of his last 5 fights. Arguably 4 out 5 , as many thought Sturm beat Oscar.
Arce- dominated but beat by another Mexican fighter.

Juan Manuel Marquez's loss to Chris John seems highly dubious.

fighers like Rafael Marquez, Israel Vazquez, Ponce de Leon, and Christian Mijares tell me that the Mexican Boxing scene is not exactly struggling right now.

ITs still a place where they produce a ton of quality boxers.

Ponce De Leon really has work cut out for him, he has an upcoming bout with the highly touted Rey Bautista. De Leon may be joing that list! What do you think ? You are Filipino and are far more familiar with Bautista. Who wins Bautista vs De Leon?

I might be Filipino but I've been living in Quebec for the past fifteen years :blood

I've seen Bautista in only five fights or so due to where I currently live

. He's a very good talent but Ponce de Leon is a very big step up for him. Then again, the way De Leon fought with an aging Penalosa, Bautista might have a better chance than most people think!

Mexicans have never really done anything above the 140 pound division.

They still have good fighters like Rafael Marquez, Israel Vasquez, Jhonny Gonzalez, Ponce De Leon, Christian Mijares, Humberto Soto.

Vargas and DLH are both Americans and never represented Mexican boxing.

Mexicans.you have my second favorite fighter.. Rafael Marquez..man you guys made a monster.. I mean I literally love that guy...I just dont understand where his power comes from. I see it, but dont believe it. I mean he hits HARDDDD. In every Punch with both hands. And damn that jab......GO MEXICO..RAF is your next superstar. You guys need to start pumping him up for real.

Rafa Marquez #3
JMM #4
Barrera #9

Pound 4 Pound ring mag ratingings

I wouldnt say that' bad at all

What is Chris John ranked by the RING ? I dont take those rankings seriously! Pacman will beat Barrera again, and will beat JMM again. The only reason Pacman vs JMM was a draw , was because the idiot judge didnt know how to add the scorecard up and admitted it.

so instead of the RING take urs??? OK
why dont u rename ur thread to i hate mexican boxers because pacman is the greatest boxer ever

No, but there is no way JMM is the 4th best boxer in the world after refusing a Pacman rematch, then losing his title to a fighter no ever heard of for a purse of 25,000 $.

mexican boxing is at a transition state, some of the more well known fighters are getting old while some upcoming and exciting prospects are getting recognized...its just a matter of time actually, people grow old.

And so is to other countries.

I think the best is the Middleweight (but he will be fighting in Super Middlweight) in the Pro's, 6'2 Marco Antonio Periban, that beat the Cuban number 1, to get to the Panamerican Games in Rio this summer.

There are others with good chances for a medal like Carlos Cuadras, Odilon Zaleta and Braulio Avila

You are Jsantini. He had a huge list exactly like that. He posted a bunch of garbage about how Librado Andrade was going to KO Kessler . Andrade lost every second of the fight royaly, then shortly afterwards Jsantini stopped posting. Edit: Acctually it is that same list.

I have nothing against Mexican fighters but is funny the trash the fans talk , then their fighter keep getting totally owned. Margarito, Castillo were both supposedly going to demolish Williams and Hatton.

so basically you admit that this thread was intended to hate on mexicans(because of their fans) and not because of the state of mexican boxing. i dunno even know what your arguement is when three mexican fighters are in the top 10 p4p lists.

This is some sort of a World Cup in boxing. Whoever wins the most out 7 matches is the winner. Deal?

dont be a bitch dumbgo, you know most of these fights involve mexican journymen who are only fighting to fill the card. i think the main events are more than fair. however, do YOU have the same confidence in your countrymen that mexicans have in theirs.:yep

pinoy boxers wouldn't do that. they know some mexicans will be offended. . they are the classiest and most humble group of boxers i have ever seen. :good

whats with the inferiority complex? mexico just has more guys practicing the sport of boxing so there is a larger pool of talent than in the phillipines. these mexico phillipine threads read like a little brother allways trying to outdo and come out from big brothers shadow. pinoys should be happy with the fine fighters they have and stop trying to be better than mexico.

Is Larios is 30 years old and washed up?

Larios defeated Isreal Vasquez by 12th round TKO in 2002 and had a nice World Title run untill December 2005. Larios was one of the better fighters, untill he was Ko'd in 4 rounds by the same Vasquez he previously knocked out, then lost by decision to Pacman.

Fair enough, Larios has been a pro since he was 17 years old and he is now 30. Larios has been in many slugfests ,and it has taken its toll. But even at Larios's very best, he could never beat Linares could he? Even in his prime he would of been owned?

Yep Rafa is good but I think he can't defeat WBA super bantam champ, Celestino "The Towering Inferno" Caballero ... Caballero already annihilated the other super bantam champ before, WBO's Daniel Ponce De Leon... Also Rafa is already 32 years old ...

At super bantam, IMO Caballero is the man...

I think Rafa has all the tools to bring down that Tower.

It should be an interesting fight.

Larios looked better with Linares than in his 2 previous fights.

The Pinoy vs. Mexico WC is pretty even on talent. AJ Banals record looks like hes a rookie compared to who he is fighting. I know he is good but why are they throwing him in with ranked fighters right away for elimenators. We have some Pinoy jorneymen facing Mexican journeymen as well before the main cards.
