Its going to be a big night of action at the EKKA grounds Coffee Club room.

I expect this to be one of the classic local Heavyweight Clashes of the past few years.

Col is super experienced . Alex just loves throwing the bombs...

Can't wait.

Alex Leapai by KO i would expect.

Leapai has come on in leaps & bounds in recent times.

If Wilson actually trains for this, I'd make him favourite. Sadly, he doesn't spend enough time in the gym. If he's focused, I'd tip Col.

Alex Leapai defends his OPBF Heavyweight Title in little over one weeks time against Colin Kid Wilson at the Mansfield Tavern. This fight will not go the distance. This will be remeniscent of an old school brawl. In the early eighties these two might have been more suited to the Mansfield Car Park than centre ring. This will be a knock down drag em out slug fest.

Leapai's strengths lie in his power. Standing just under 6 ft tall and weighing close to 110 kilos he is an absolute wrecking machine. Left and right hooks fly constantly and as all of last 7 opponents can testify he has "Knockout Power".

Colin Wilson on the other hand is well over 6 ft tall and will weigh around 117 kilos once the first bell rings. His training schedule is unique indeed. Preferring to lift 80 kilo drilling rods at the mine he works in rather than weights in the gym. Wilson is naturally gifted with core strength and power, he has toughness that no trainer can teach, you either have it or you don't.

Alex Leapai V Colin Wilson - Mansfield Tavern 27 JUNE
OPBF Heavyweight Title - 12 X 3 minute rounds.

In the semi main event Tyrone Tongia has his very first professional Title fight when he takes on Micah Rivetti for the vacant QLD Weltwerweight Title. Tongia and his Cyclone Squad have been waiting patiently for this time to come. Rivetti is no stranger to big fights though having gone the distance with two Australian Champions in Mick Shaw and Chris McCullen in previous fights.

A total of 6 professional fights are scheduled with doors opening at 6:45 for a 7:30 start.

Trent Johnssen V Billy Timaloa
Sam Bienke V Evan Quagliotto
James Ellis V James Porter
Daniel Crawford V Ben Jones

Col boxed his ears off over 12 rds. Fought really well apparently. He never ceases to stun me, wins the ones he's not suppose to & loses the ones he should walk in. Tough bugger.

You've gotta give Col credit, he's one tough bugger, he actually semi trained for this one, I think he turned up 10 days in a row at the gym:cool:

what sort of tactics did colin employ? double up on jab? get alex leaning back, then follow up when alex was off balance?

roscoe

Mate I just got a text off his brother, he said Col fought really well. Haven't spoke to him in depth about the fight but whenever Col fights well his jab is the key factor.

alex & col put up a great fight but winning going to col, i think wally lewis decision was a disgrace, every1 who was their including officials etc said alex won it and not one time alex backed off chasing col through out the 12rnds having col on the back end on every occasion.Alex will bounce back & already asking brian/angelo for a rematch asap.congrats to both fighters & yep col trained the house down in prep for this fight who looked slim & fit at 113kg also alexs 1st southpaw fight a lesson to learn.

A well respected trainer who was there in attendence told me that he struggled to give Alex a round. Says Col boxed his ears off.

yea he did and i don't take aythink away from col infact i'm one of his fans i even got his autograph, but his jabs that he used also hit alexs gloves and missed most of the time, thats the first time i've seen col boxed like that in years his fitness and experience played a big part and also alex who fought better than the kirby/briggs fight.

Alex has a heart of a Lion and after watching the fight over & over and seeing the potenial that alex has, he can stand toe to toe with any heavyweight in the world and thats a fact but he'll learn as he continues on.

Who is financing the trip to Balcatta, Perth. Alex has a few brothers, not to forget his trainers also so it may be an expensive invite Kegsy...

yep trained 3half wks straight & shed a few kilo to be at 113kg, only if he'd prepared like this against big bob i think it would of been a different out come last year for the ausie title.

hope so & spoken to alex today he just ask me to let anyone or everyone who supported him to apologise for letting you guys, sponsors & his family down on friday night & made a vowel that this will NOT HAPPEN AGAIN.
This loss just made me more hungry and even more determind for my next fight.

it was good to see him over it and back in training today.

Col is the most frustrating fighter to know, got all the ability just hates doing the hard yards. If you saw him train you'd honestly shake your head but somehow he manages to get in there & go 12 rds. A lot of what if's surround Col & his career. I agree with Leati Col would have beaten Bob if he trained properly but thats just something he never does.
