This merry-go-round is making me dizzy......
Last night I posted a thread that included the fact that Mike Marley is reporting that Casamayor-Marquez is a done deal for Oct 11.
That may, or may not be accurate. I just got off the phone with Paco from the WBO, who has ASSURED me that Casamayor is in fact going to sign for the Campbell fight. Due to the location not being specific enough on the bout agreement, a corrected agreement was sent to Golden Boy this morning, and Casa now has 5 days to sign it. Lets hope that this isn't just wasting more time than has already been wasted.
On another note, Paco also assured me that if Casa does not sign, then Guzman will in fact be appointed as our new mandatory, effective immediately. So at least we are making progress, however slow it may be......
Edit: There is also the possibility that Casa is just playing games with the WBO, and has no intention of signing for the Campbell fight. We'll know in 5 days....

Why? He'll be weight drained trying to make it back down to 130.. He weighed like 142 against JMM earlier this year.. He'll be much more fit at 135 and a chance to do what no asian has doen before, I do believe.. This is for enhancing his legacy.. Knocking Valoer & Gamboa out mean's nothing.. JMM moved up in pursuit for a rematch with Pacquiao & Guzman moved up because he wants to fight the best and thats in the lightweight division.. SFW division is now a stinker division..
Casa just needs to say who he wants to fight.. At first I thought Casa turned down Campbell and the Casamayor/Marquez fight was gonna' happen, but now this.. Is it really this hard of a decision for Casa?

It is. Should he fight Juan (who is a more dangerous fight than Nate) for double money, but gain nothing if he wins (including a gurantee at Pac) or should he take half money for Nate, get all those belts and guarantee himself to be Pac's next opponent for that mega payday?
Ahh yeah.. Actually is a hard decision.. Taking the Campbell route will probably lead him to more money and he could possibly hold the titles Campbell holds, or would all of his titles be on the line? And isn't Casa stripped if he takes the Marquez fight? Would goin' the JMM route mean he could be retiring and is just getting a quick payday? As much as I would love to see Marquez/Casamayor, I want the Campbell/Casamayor fight..

the fight should happen, the winner of a Campbell/Casamayor fight is practically guranteed a big payday with Pacman and the possibility of becoming a mega champion.
that is if Pacman wins against D.Diaz of course.

First of all, Casa will NOT make double to fight Diaz. Thats just bunk. I know what the numbers are, and the difference is minimal.
With that being said, if Casa fights Nate, it's for all the marbles (IBF, WBO, WBA, Ring).
If Casa fights Marquez, he would be stripped of the WBO interim title, but would keep the Ring title.

What I do not understand is how Guzman became the mandatory when he has not fought a single fight in 135. Isn't it supposed to be that there is an elimination bout to determine the number 1 mandatory? How about the other guys occupying the 1-5 positions?

It feels like Campbell, Casamayor, Guzman, and Marquez are all just on the cusp of finally attaining or re-attaining the mass recognition due all of them. I love all these guys, and it's killing me that they're more likely to face each other soon (killing the momentum of whichever guys lose in these matchups) instead of building themselves up even higher first with coups over guys like Katsidis, Diaz, Diamond, and Pacquiao.

WBO rules allow a current champion in a lower/higher division to move to another division and take precedence over the existing mandatory, if there is one. In this case, Guzman was the WBO 130 lb champ, and decided to move up to 135. Since Casamayor was actually the interim champ, as well as the mandatory, he had the first shot. If he doesnt sign by monday (which none of us expect him to), then he will be stripped of the WBO interim title, and a new mandatory challenger will be immediately named. And Guzman, the 130 champ moving up, gets preference over Khan, based on the WBO rules.
<whew> I hope that explains it.....lol

I agree with you on everything except loving Casamayor. Also, it'll be horrible if Campbell-Casamayor happens, because Joan Guzman will end up getting screwed more than anyone once again.

I actually think he is a little weight drained at 130 now even with a good camp although you could argue that he has gotten intentionally bigger anticipating the move up.

If Guzman has to fight one fight before getting a top fight at 135, I would'nt call that getting screwed.
