I would favour Tunney personally, but alot would depend on how durable Gene would be in the rounds 10-15 against a heavy hitting HW.

I like Rocky by late round TKO. I don't feel Tunney faced anything resembling a prime Marciano. It's Rocky for me.

That said, Tunney had a very good chin Dempsy was only able to put him down once but in those day's you were able to stand over your opponent and pummel them into a K.O. Imagine Marciano in that era!!!!

I don't imagine Gene with the firepower it would take to stop Marciano from pounding Tunney on the inside over the course of a championship fight.

Agreed i always thought Rocky was a better and stronger version of Dempsey and Tunney wouldnt be able to run from Rocky all night like he did Dempsey.Because Rockys conditioning was far superior to Dempseys

There seems to be a revisionist history going on around here concerning Dempsey, people relate him to bar room brawler.

Just look at the absolutely vicious combination of punches a faded Dempsey landed (vs Tunney) with precision to get the knock down.

Marciano would eventually get to Tunney. Better boxers Ezzard Charles & Jersey Joe Walcott moved around but couldn't stay away for the whole fight. Marciano puts too much pressure.

while I agree dempsey had faster hands, slightly better combination punching, and better punch accuracy, I do think Marciano hit harder and was defintley the stronger of the two. But tunney never fought a prime jack dempsey so this is a mute point.

What are you talking about, man? Dempsey and Marciano had completely different styles aside from them both being heavy-punching pressure fighters. Do you even know anything about Dempsey?

I think tunney was the best heavy at staying away,he would prob. cut the easy to cut rock to get a late tko or dec.But the rock is in my top 5 and tunney aint,im kida mixed kus the rock could cut the ring off farly good and could ko a guy with one shot if tunney screws up the rock would end it just as a prime dempsey would have.The rock had one of if not the best rights of alltime but dempsey was a two handed power hitter-the real matchup would be a (prime) dempsey vs rock.also tunneys power is always underrated he had good but not awsome power
