just wondering about timeframe, knowing when you're ready, etc......

I started boxing two years ago, did it for about 6 months, took a break, and have been doing it more seriously for the past 8 months. I developed strong technique from that first time and have developed it even better now, and have been sparring a lot more. So I'm wondering, how did you decide you were gonna go amateur? Was it a big leap? How do you really know if you're ready? I feel like my skills are good but I might need more sparring experience just for the sake of it.

and it's not like I plan on doing it anytime soon. I have vacations next month and then school. but I know I will eventually.

Your coach will know when you are ready. But 6 mos- a year is average.

you need lots of sparring,be very fit, good defence and a good jab, and good movement will win you plenty amateur fights, when you are comfortable sparring six to eight good paced and pressurised rounds and YOU feel ready go for it, and remember to enjoy it!

yeah, I feel like I'm really close....I mean, my stamina is really good and I've honed my technique a lot, so I think with some more sparring I'll see.

thanks for the replies.
