Erdei was very angry before his previous fight that Kohl could not get him a unification opportunity, Kohl has promised him (and the Hungarian press and fans) that finally a well-known opponent will come. I honestly think if Erdei doesn't get the unification fight or a fight with the likes of Johnson or Woods perhaps, he will retire.
Johnson and Woods seem to be available, moreover Tarver does not have any opponent for the summer, because Dawson has to face Diaconu... this means Erdei could finally face some real threat. Still, it remains a question how much motivation he has now... I am pretty sure that 2-3 years ago he would have been very dangerous for all the other champs but now he is getting older and slower...
He's waiting to get to 40-0 before he takes on the other top guys in the division, like Calzaghe did. :yep

chumps like erdei are the ones not doing any good with boxing, as a champ he should fight live opponents for more people to take interest in the sport

Well, Clinton Woods is still a good fighter but it makes no sense fighting him now that he recently lost his belt. Too much risk, no reward. I assume Erdeis next fight will be in Germany, and I don't think that Johnson will come to Europe again because he got robbed here a few times (but he got robbed in the US too). And he ain't got a belt either.
Tarver would be the good choice, but I don't think he will come to Germany either... Erdei should travel to the US and fight Tarver or Johnson, but he won't do that.
He could fight RJJ, RJJ stated that he was ready to fight in Germany, against Beyer - a fight against Erdei would be bigger. Probably the biggest fight in Germany since I don't know how long. But somehow I don't think that fight will be made either...
Maybe he could try to fight for the vacant WBA strap? A fight with Juergen Braehmer would also be intersting.
Anyways, he'll probably fight somebody like Omar Sheika or Manny Siaca, cash in his check and continue complaining about not getting a big fight... I would even be surprised if he fights former euro top10 now has beens Silvio Branco or Stipe Drews.
to get big name opponents you have to pay them top dollar to travel.
IMO this is the problem with erdei`s matchmaking.
he is not a particulary big draw in germany/crowd or tv ratings compared to other german based fighters and his backers are paying the least ammount of money for low draw opponents and getting basically what they pay for.
off course erdei is to blame as well.
some of his last fights have been lackluster in the extreme with erdei fighting in 2nd gear the whole fight.
not good for tv/not good for atnosphere/not good for hyping himself.

from the scene that talks about boxing......
WBO light heavyweight champ Zsolt Erdei won´t defend his title until next year but reportedly remains standby to replace Jurgen Brahmer should there be further problems prior to his November 22 showdown against WBA ruler Hugo Hernan Garay. Erdei´s next defense should be against Brit Dean Francis. On the November 22 show female champs Ina Menzer and Alesia Graf will both defend their respective titles

Honestly does that surprise anybody here? Erdei is the epitome of the saying 'holding a belt hostage'. Erdei is bad for european boxing. And as I always said it's a shame because he's actually a good fighter who could achieve more if he wanted to/had the balls to...
Anyways, let's hope he has to face Garay again in November then, to whom he has lost at least 1 fight in my opinion.

Erdei was interviewed by a Hungarian newspaper and he said he knows that Universum does not count with him any more since he attacked them this spring in the German press (criticising them exactly because they could not arrange him a unification fight for ages).
I really don't understand why is it easier for Diaconu to make a contract with Glen Johnson than for the Universum?...
I am very sad, I think Erdei will be soon fed up with his management's attitude and quit...
Hope Garay beats Brähmer and we can see final fight between the two ("to settle score" in my eyes).

I know there are legal issues when a fighter is under contract but I think if Erdei really wanted to unify he would have somehow forced Universum's hand. It's one thing to say that you want to fight the best but it's a completely different thing when you go ahead and fight the subpar guys you're given.
I'm not attacking Erdei. I'm just saying that when fighters want something done they can usually make it happen. Erdei's been a champ for 4+ years. That's a sufficient amount of time to unify. I think there's more than meets the eye here. I don't know what he makes per fight but I'm sure it's in his best financial interest to keep things the way they are rather than putting his belt on the line against a real threat. Without a title he loses the only credibility that can be milked in his favor, WBO champion and if you really want to get technical, linear champion. Zsolt might as well keep his mouth shut, make all the money he can, and retire undefeated. Asking for a unification fight seems to be more of a formality rather than a genuine request. I'm sure that he knows how easy his title reign has been for him. Perhaps he wants us to think that he's more ambitious than he is so we can place the blame squarely on Universum.
