View Full Version : I'm Now Picking Winky to STOP ST. BERNARD!!!!!

Bernard is going to be hit and pressured from the starting bell. He is too old and does not have the legs anymore to avoid the constant pressure that Winky is going to lay on him. Look for Winky to come forward throwing his jab and straight left, mixing in body punches and hooks all night. Hopkins is going to find it nearly impossible to counter Winky. Winky doesn't fully commit to any punch, which is why he isn't really ever wide open for a counter from it. Look for a very large disparity in activity and workrate in favor of Winky and Hopkins will take more punishment in this fight then ever before. The fight is going to be stopped around the 10th or 11th. Hopkins isn't invincible.....nobody is. He is too old to be fighting Winky, and this is going to be very painful to watch one of the greatest fighters ever get TKO'd in his last fight (much like many others have). But at least it will be against another All-Time Great in Winky :good

I dont think he will stop bernard and I dont think he has the right style to win a Wide UD over bernard you have to remember Winky in big fights he does fall alseep the last third, he did so with Taylor did so with Vargas while Hopkins though he doesnt start out the first half of the fight trying to win those rounds he does step it up in the final rounds in all of his fights, the style Winky does have will allow Bernard to sit in the pocket to do damage and when Nard is on the inside it gets ugly, and I fully expect it to be a Hopkins like performance in this fight.
I think Winky can win this but he cant just come forward with his hands up, he must use some sort of movement in there and stay away from the inside fight, he must make it a jab fest to win. if he cant he wont win.

I can see Winky stopping Bernard, easily, Bernard has all my respect in the world, but hes 42, hasnt fought in a year, and Winky still very much at the top of his game. Its gonna be a bitter pill for Bhop to swallow when Winky beats him up tomorrow night.

Come on, Winky couldn't stop guys much smaller than himself at 154. He isn't stopping a man who is bigger than himself at 170. Especially when that man has a proven beard, and skill like Hopkins does.

Nothing wrong with that. We all have a tendency to overrate fighters we like. Props to you for being man enough to admit it.

This is one of those fights where I like both guys. I wouldn't be shocked if Winky beats Hopkins (who happens to be my favorite current fighter) but I don't think either guy is likely to get stopped.

The truth is that Hopkins is getting overrated at this stage in his career after his win against Tarver. Just take a step back and look at Hopkins's last 5 fights:

Delahoya - A fight where he looked like the guys step-dad he was so much bigger and stronger than him. And he was losing early on.

Eastman - A decisive victory but not even close to impressive. Eastman then went on to lose to both Abraham and Miranda (getting stopped by Miranda).

Taylor I & II - Now at the time of these fights Taylor's aura was one of a young, strong, 'powerful', 'dangerous' and skilled future champ. Hops, although I felt he won the first and lost the second, had alot of trouble with him. We have seen since that Cory Spinks took him to a very close fight, Ouma took all of his shots and was very competitive and Winky beat the hell out of him. My point is Taylor is not as good as he was billed to be, no where near as strong as powerful, yet Hopkins couldn't beat him convincingly.

Tarver - This was a great performance by Hopkins. Yes. But What did he really have to do? He had Tarver befuddled. He won't get Winky befuddled. He was able to win that fight without really inflicting too much damage or working too hard. Tarver was taking out of his game, a game that wasn't that good to begin with.

I'll say it again, Hopkins is being overrated and his "Fountain of Youth" bullshit has run out, it just hasn't been exposed yet. Look for it to be exposed in this fight.

if i had a free 1 million pound bet and was offered 50 to 1 on a winky ko win or was offered 1/20 on that winky would not win by ko i would take the 1/20 on shot.

people making to much of hopkinsd age.

his punch output is low but there is nothing wrong with his chin or defensive abiltities especially v a light puncher like wright.

Stop??? I can see a UD but not stopped....I'm leaning towards Winky but I can't count out Bhop b/c he's crafty and bigger....Speed will play a major roll...if Hop is still fairly fast like he showed against Tarver that will be very good for him...if he looks slower...Wink will control the fight with his defense and Jab. But no KO at the Hands of Wink....If there is a KO it's going to be Hop handing it to Ronald.

Oh, he's gonna land on him. He's gonna bust him up with the jab and the straight left. But I think a punch that is gonna be really effective for Winky is the lead right hook to the body. :deal

First thing, there wont be a knockout in this fight...Bhop and Winky both have awesome chins, and i think Hop still has it and im picking him to win it, mainly because his elusiveness and footwork...thats the way to beat Winky it seems footwork, or make HIM moveback instead of letting him push you back, my opinion though, cause no one really knows how to beat Winky or BHop because theyve never been beat convincingly in their primes...Its a toss up, but ill take Bhop just because i dont like Winky(my avatar can probably explain why)

The way you've been talking lately you're talking like Hopkins is going to be like Taylor and get hit continuesly with 3-4 shots at a time.
He might be late in the fight. Like I stated above, I think bernard is alot older than we have been lead on to believe. I don't think he can deal with a come forward fighter for an entire fight. Winky is a lot stronger than people give him credit for. He was pushing Taylor around the ring, and Taylor appeared to be stronger than Hopkins in their fights. I don't think the weight is going to be an issue either, because winky is naturally 190lbs.

magnificentdave
07-20-2007, 02:20 PM
i wish people would stop saying winky is naturally 190 pounds, that is just crazy, i could see him walking around at a fit 175-180, maybe, 190 just means he gets fat in between fights

X is too tough and too defensively apt for anyone in history to ko him. Winky only does it if X is shot to shit.

X IS DEFINITELY well past his prime but I don't think he is shot. He is old and past his prime but not shot.

I'm fan of Winky but I can't see Hopkins knocked out by him. X was never knocked out, Winky won last time by knockout 5 years ago. Winky puts on weigt 10 pound and that can be problem for him - Hopkins may be faster, throw his right hands and keep him on distance. He will be very difficult to KO/TKO. However i pick Winky by UD.

My expert analysis is that both guys are so defensive minded that niether one will even get close to being KO'd.

I pick WInky to simply outwork Bernard with the jab and use his cover up D to clock almost every one of the few punches he will throw.

Hops relies on outsmarting, using angles and setting up opponants . . . this takes time and theres nothing to outsmat Winky about. . . he simply stands in fron of you and blocks with that great guard and jabs the shiit outta you with his strong hand.

it doesnt matter, cause Winky can walk him down with the high gaurd and pump the jab when he gets in range. Hops is going to try to pick his shots too much . . . he'll be too inactive to outpoint Winky with his jab.

Yes it does matter, because Winky couldn't pivot properly even if his life depended on it, and Nard will attack from angles the whole time.

He'll spend the night on his back foot trying to reset his feet but Nard'll keep him offbalance.

Easy stylistical matchup for Hard Nard.

I've thought this myself and read it in different ways the past few weeks, but you phrased this beautifully. Picking the old man over Tarver was a gift, especially with Milk Dud dropping all that weight. If I put anything on Hops for tomorrow, it'll be small, even though I think he gets the nod. If I had to pick anyone to win by stoppage is would be 'Nard. I don't even think it is outside the realm of possibility. B-Hop is such a well schooled counterpuncher. I could see Winky winning the fight if he stayed in his freakishly inpenatrable guard and just shot jabs all night with the occasional right hand to keep Hopkins honest. If he tries to fight against B-Hop like he did against Taylor, I could see him getting laid out.

Hopkins will stop twinky in the 11th or 12th round, bernards movement and ring skills will be the difference,u gotta remember hopkins is a great underrated body-puncher.I see hopkins giving winky lot's of trouble and i think hopkins body-punching will break down winky and u will see winky's guard start to drop around the 8th round and after that hopkins will just pick him apart.Winky's jab will only lead him to getting countered to death by hopkins and also hopkins left hook to the body will make winky reluctant to throw it.

It's all in good fun. He's overrating Winky to hell in the P4P thread and this just ties to his extremist stance as a Wright fan.

It's no different than the dumbass Hopkins fans picking him to stop Joe Calzaghe, same shit basically.

This one just sticks out a little more because we all know about Wright's punching power or lack of.:yep

I really thought Hopkins was going to gas. He had been starting real slow and I thought if Wright pushed him from the get go he would wear him down. Quite the opposite happened if I recall correctly :yep

Take most of the elements of your original prediction and replace Winky with Calzaghe and you'd have a very likely scenerio there. Hopkins is going to get stopped, brutally.
