If there was ever a live Fox Sports card to tune into this year, this card appears to be it boys.
The main event pits undefeated Australian IBO Middleweight Champ Daniel Geale (18-0 12ko) WBC#17, WBO#12, in his 1st IBO Title defense against Serbian born, but England based Geard Ajetovic (16-1-1 8ko).
Should be a great night as Dan Geale continues his climb into the Top 15 in the world at Middleweight.
The undercard is an impressive one too.
In a 10 round bout for the Australian Light Middleweight Title, we will see Frank LoPorto in with Peter Mitrevski Jr.
Both guys have had their ups & downs in recent times, & i expect an exciting bout to eventuate.
In an 8 round bout at Super Featherweight, one of Australia's brightest prospects Billy Dib (19-0 10ko) WBC#17, IBF #13, will take a keep busy fight with the very tough Filipino Rey Anton Olarte, who had a draw last time out with undefeated Aussie Steven Wills.
At Light Middleweight, we will see the return to action of Robert Medley (19-2 13ko), who seems to beat everyone, expect with the name Isaac Hlatswayo. It will be over 6 rounds & his opponent is Indonesian Welterweight Champ Ade Alfons.
Undefeated Aussie Lightweight Steven Wills (6-0-2 3ko) will in action with young Filipino Leon Maratas who has undefeated up until this year. Over 4 rounds at Lightweight.
Lastly, Steve Casserley with the perfect record (1-0 1ko) will take on debutant Damien Lawler, again in a 6 rounder at Light Middleweight.

Nice card for sure mate.
I havent seen any vids of the guy Geale is fighting. Looks short but strong, with a decent record.
Is the guy Medley is fighting any good? And can Medley take his bel
t home?

Nah Medley cant fight for his Indonesian title.
Medley aint an Indonesian Citizen.
Alfons is a solid opponent for a comeback fight after losing to Hlatswayo for the 2nd time.
Should go a few rounds at least he seems quite durable.
Should be a great night nonetheless Marcus, i just hope the Grange head a different direction with Medley now.
It would be great to see matchups with Emmanuel Augustus & Chad Bennett before its too late.
Ajetovic is a decent opponent, but we all know Geale has much bigger plans down the road. I expect Geale to dominate & look very strong.
1 thing a top Aussie trainer told me, was that he couldnt believe how big a Middleweight Geale is live compared to watching on TV.

Medley should fight someone not fitting the same mould as always. Short and slow. But i still believe in Robbie, and he will get another chance soon enough.
Geale must have changed, i havent stood next to him for about 2 years, he never seams much bigger than me and im always under 70kg and same hight.
I like how Dan seamed to have more anger in the Dawson fight, i think he needs that to keep building pressure to get more respect in the ring.

Hopefully Grange team can get him some different awkward types of opponents to change it up a bit.
Emmanuel Augustus would be great bout, but i dont think it will happen.
Geale's time has come to really raise that bar & the Grange team have some big names interested if things can keep going to plan.
I know FOX are very keen on having the new blood headline their shows, Geale & Kickett being at the forefront of this.

Geale’s manager Bill Treacy said, "Daniel is ready to step up a level. He has been sensational in sparring sessions with Sakio Bika who won the Contender series. They have boxed wars at the Grange Gym. In Geale’s last fight he won every round against world rated Daniel Dawson who was unbeaten in 29 fights. That showed he was something special. We have had talks with WBA super middleweight champion Anthony Mundine’s management about a possible Geale vs Mundine bout at middleweight poundage. Mundine has said he will fight in future at middleweight and there is no other Australian who could test him like Daniel Geale. After the bout with Ajetovic we will continue the talks and hopefully get this fight on. I am also interested in Geale challenging IBF middleweight champion Arthur Abraham and WBA champion Felix Sturm. Geale has the skills to defeat both of these major body champions.”
Dammmmmmmm, big things planned for Geale!!!
Id love to see him fight Choc, but maybe not next fight. If he fought Sterm then defended against Choc??? wow that would be fucking great!!!
Who here is going to this fight?

Press Release
World Title Championship- June 27th 2008
The Cube
Campbelltown Catholic Club.
Australia’s premier boxing team, Grange Old School Boxing, will demonstrate why they believe their I.B.O. middleweight World Champion, Daniel Geale is in fact the “The Real Deal” when he defends his crown against London based….Serbian born powerhouse… Geard Ajetovic.
Ajetovic is no stranger to Australian shores having competed in the 2000 Sydney Olympics, though any past affinity with our lucky country has taken a back seat with the following declaration regarding Geale published in a U.K. tabloid
'This is my ticket to changing my life and really earning some real money from boxing. I can't waste it. He has a very impressive professional record with many knockouts, but that does not worry me. I am looking forward to going to his country and knocking him out”.
With a 300 fight amateur career highlighted by a Silver medal in the 2002 World Championships and a professional record of 16 wins, 1 loss to European champion Christophe Canclaux and 1 draw, Ajetovic’s intention may be heart felt and well intended but if Daniel Geale’s recent sparring with Contender champ Sakio Bika is any indication the stretcher will be on standby from the opening bell for the brash talking Serb.
A convincing victory by Geale will further his plan to take Anthony Mundine back to school should he make the mistake of dropping down a division and campaigning at middleweight.
A dynamic under card will feature Victorian, Frank LoPorto as the Main Support when he puts his Australian Light Middleweight Title on the line when former IBF Pan Pacific Middleweight Champ Peter Mitrevski Jnr. steps up to the challenge.
LoPorto has engaged in 3 non-title fights since claiming the crown in October last year.
28 year old Mitrevski has fought mostly at middle and super middleweight during his 11-year professional career. This fight has the experts divided as to whether the hard punching champion will have the experience necessary to successfully defend against the guile of Mitrevski 19-5-1 (8ko) who has stated
“I‘ve dreamt of being an Australian Champion since the very first day I donned the gloves”.
Undefeated Billy “The Kid” Dib takes on Pilipino Rey Anton Olarte over 8 rounds. The WBC World-rated Dib is coming into this fight looking to impress after he struggled last time out against Leon Maratas on May 16 at Campsie.
Olarte’s last outing saw “Wild” Steve Wills on the canvas and hurt in the 5th round and “The Kid” will need to be at his elusive best to counter the guaranteed attack from the willing Pinoy.
Coming off 2 attempts at World Title glory “Deadly” Rob Medley shows his reluctance to take a backward step when he faces dangerous Indonesian Ade Alfons over 6 rounds Alfons is the current Indonesian Welterweight champion and will take the fight to Medley from the outset.
Local crowd pleaser Steve Casserly faces tough Queenslander Damien Lawler over 6 rounds at Junior Middleweight. Lawler is a former Qld amateur Champion and has had nearly 100 amateur bouts. Industry experts rate Casserly a real prospect but Lawler has not shirked at the chance to ply his trade…
Steve Wills battles Leon Maratas in a lightweight bout set for 4 rounds. Wills is undefeated with a record of 6 wins and 2 draws and is looking to make some noise in an already talent-laden lightweight division in Australia
Fans are guaranteed value for money when this quality event kicks off at 7.30 pm, June 27 at Campbelltown Catholic Clubs’ “The Cube” which is a multi-million dollar arena set to become the new home of Australian boxing.
Tickets are available at the club or by phoning Grange Old School Boxing

I second this. A fight I really want to see!
Hope Geard can get something out of this and use the fight as a launch pad for the hole left in the domestic middleweight scene by Paul Smith.
Havent seen or heard much of Geale, can any Aussie fill in a couple of ignorant Brits as to Geale's ability?
To return the favour in advance, Geard is a Serbian national who has become an adopted scouser after moving to Liverpool. He's fast and can certainly bang! His record doesnt do him justice after taking fights at short notice. He's also missed out on most of the media coverage offered to fighters of his ability (no idea why as he's more exciting than most!).

Geale will try to control the distance of the fight and will aim to beat Geard to the punch all night.
He has good fitness and can fight hard for 12 rounds.
He doesnt mind goin toe to toe, but he will most likely get his punches off and get out leaving his opponent swinging at air.
I might be bias, Geale is my #1 fighter :deal

Good to know a little about his style. Geard is quite compact and will try to get inside Geale and land his bombs. He's a lot quicker than he looks and would cause most problems. Hope this gets shown on eurosport or something!

On another note Geard Ajetovic sparred Light Heavyweight & fellow Serb Zdravko Micevic the other day & from all reports looked decent.
Micevic is the guy that was involved in the death of Aussie cricketer David Hookes.
This Geale vs Ajetovic fight could go down as 1 of the best fights ever on Fox Sports Friday Night Fights.

He's young enough and I hope he does turn it around, but at this stage in his career - a loss like that - he's gonna need an Alex Arthur like transformation if he isnt gonna drift into domestic obscurity.
Going forward though, I hope Geard can salvage some scouse pride after Smith and Matthews got beat

I've never seen Geale so cant really comment on Geard's chances. Seen Geard a few times though and I know that he has a very big punch, he's quick and he's tidy. Also had an excellent amateur career so not going to be an easy fight for Geale!

Geard was on bbc radio merseyside last night (on the ropes) he was sayin that in the past he has been let down on fights that many times that he couldnt focus 100 percent on his training. with this one the deal was signed and there was no backing off, he has trained harder than ever and his promoter was on also sayin he has never had such a fit boxer with such good stamina at the time of signing for a bout, so he has also been well trained in advance before the big pre fight camp.
This is a life changing bout for him, he told me himself that he would not cock up as its now his time to make money out of the sport he loves.....FACT.... LETS F***IN AV ITTTTT haha! gutted cant watch it though
And also for you Geal fans a little more info on Geard for you....His main gym back home he uses and trained in before turning onto the professional scene in England is Called Kirkby ABC, it is home to former world champions John Conteh and Paul 'Hoko' Hogkinson, the same head coach John Lloyd is still there now and has sent Geard on his way. He still comes in and trains from time to time and spars. When he is in training for a professional bout he is coached by George Schofield and former world champion you may know, Shea Neary.

Thought the posters on this thread may want to see this. It's taken from a local newspaper in Liverpool;
GEARD AJETOVIC is destined to become Liverpool’s newest world boxing champion, according to the city’s supportive fight fraternity.
With just two days to go until the Kirkby-based Serb challenges for the IBO middleweight title in a Sydney suburb, former champions from across the city have backed him to climb on top of the world.
The former amateur star travelled with trainer George Scholfield at the weekend, but landed in Australia a huge betting underdog next to popular local champion Daniel Geale.
The Aussie, who won gold at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester in 2002, only captured the world crown in December with a big win over countryman Daniel Dawson and will certainly benefit from home advantage on Friday night.
However, Ajetovic’s conditioning trainer and former world champion Shea Neary is convinced that the matter will be taken out of the judges hands once the bell goes.
‘The Shamrock Express’, who remains as fit and committed to the ring as he was during his own world title reign, said: “Geard is going to have to knock the kid out to win the title, but I am sure that’s exactly what he’s going to do.
“Geale has been down a couple of times already in his career, which means that he can’t have the best chin in the world and if Geard catches him then it will be all over.
“He punches hard for a middleweight but more than that he’s a real thinking fighter.
“There is no real way to coach Geard because he has his own boxing brain and he thinks things through for himself. He is a real student of the sport and he has plenty of experience in his locker.
“I don’t care what the bookies say, Geard is going to take some stopping on Friday and I am 100% confident that he’ll return with the world title belt.”
Former British super-middleweight champion Tony Dodson, who boxes in Milan next Tuesday with Neary in his corner, agrees.
After sparring dozens of rounds with Ajetovic over the past few weeks Dodson is in a better position than most to evaluate the challenger’s chances and he’s also backing the adopted Scouser to bring the title home.
“Geard is a monster. He’s like a little freak of nature, a machine,” he said. “He’s so strong and so talented that there is no way I can see anything but a stoppage victory for him in Australia.
“I don’t care how talented the champion may be, he’s made the biggest mistake of his career putting his title on the line against Geard and come Saturday morning - when he wakes up battered and bruised - he’ll regret the day he first heard the name Ajetovic. I know I did!
“Geard brings so much to the table that he has the ability to go all the way and when he left here last week you could see it in his eyes that he realises this is the biggest chance of his life.
“He’s a cracking lad, out of the ring anyway, and deserves this title shot. He won’t waste it.”
Fellow middleweight prospect Paul Smith, who despite being robbed of his English crown last weekend could well one day end up standing across the ring from Ajetovic, is also tipping the challenger to succeed in Sydney.
Speaking to the ECHO recently, Smith said: “Geard is a top-class boxer and I am sure he’ll go to Australia and win the title.
“Daniel Geale is not a bad kid, he’s got a good record and a strong rating, but I’ve seen Geard up close and I know he’s got what it takes to become a world champion.”
On paper there is not much to separate the two fighters.
Both have rich amateur pedigrees, both are aged 27 and both have fought 18 pro fights - with Geale undefeated and Ajetovic carrying just one defeat, against former European champion Christophe Canclaux.

Reading those posts makes this even more likely that this will be an absolute ******* of a fight. What a shame we can't get these kind of fights more often. The tyranny of distance & the associated costs unfotunately mean our guys grow up on a diet of thai taxi drivers.

Would some one be kind enough to do a quick review of this fight when it finishes? We're a good few hours behind in the UK so it would make for interesting reading while I'm at work.
Thanks!

Can't remember being this keen to see a fox card in ages.
Especially looking forward to watching Geale, hopeful that the extra step up in class will bring out the best in him.

Not promising guys but I'm locked up cos of the flu and may be able to do a round by round. be warned though my rbr's are more Andy raymond than Teddy Atlas. Card kicks off in just over 1/2 an hour, I'll start a new thread around then. Other contributors welcome as well.

Daniel Geale has taken the first 3 rounds with a higher punch output and the challengers reluctance to trade.
Geard appears to be very confident and waiting for a KO.

Geale fought a beautiful fight and made it hard for Geare to get set although I'm at a loss to understanding how Geare won 310 of his 325 amateur fights.
Over 4 rounds you need to throw often so he obviously has the tools. Why he sat back and refused to force the fight has me fucked.

Geard never left first gear. he was content to just stand and defend the whole fight. brought back memories of when stipe drews fought danny green, except this guy didn't run, he just defended. he seemed to hav the power but never used it. he was either shiit scared or got paid very well.

That was Geards big chance, he has been known to be a lazy boxer but thought he would have been all guns blazing for this...... disapointed but still think he will be world champion, needs more bouts under his belt and more frequently:?

well if anyone gets any video or even photos up of the fight that would be great
I was at the fight and the whole card was great, except for LoPorto / Mitrevski.
Best fights were Medley and Dibs fights, with Geale the highlight and performing superbly.
I thought Geale was in for a rough fight after the first 3 rounds, however he seemed to quickly adapt to Geards style and fairly easily ovoided Geards flurrys.
Geale dominated the fight quite convincingly IMO, and I scored it 118-110.

What was wrong with LoPorto v Mitrevski?
Sure it wasn't a classic but at least LoPorto makes a fight of it.

It was a bit slow and ugly at times, and by comparison to the other fights, not great.

Here's an extract from a local Liverpool newspaper regarding the Geale v Ajetovic fight;
Ajetovic loses out in title bid
Jun 28 2008 by Nick Peet, Liverpool Echo
GEARD AJETOVIC failed to capture the IBO world title in Sydney yesterday, losing a unanimous points decision to champion Daniel Geale after 12 gruelling rounds.
The Liverpool-based middleweight contender was full of confidence heading into his big title chance at the Campbelltown Catholic Club in a suburb of the city.
However, Geale, roared on by a strong and vocal home support, came out firing on all cylinders and set an early pace that caught Ajetovic cold.
By the time the 27-year-old Shamrock’s gym fighter found third gear he was chasing the fight while Geale was able to rack up the rounds working off the back foot.
Speaking just a few moments after leaving the ring, coach George Scholfield said: “We are all just sitting here heartbroken. This was Geard’s big chance and we felt we were ready.
“But he just didn’t start quickly enough and if I am honest he just never did enough to warrant us bringing the title home.
“The champion boxed well, he did enough, but it should have been much closer than the three judges scores that were read out at the end.
“That said though, I can’t complain. Geard simply didn’t do enough to win. We are all devastated here.
“After all, it’s a long way home.”
Sydney-based Tasmanian Geale, 27, improved his professional record to 19-0 (12 KOs), as he earned the judges' favour with two scores of 117-111 and 120-109.
Making his first defence, Geale went the 12-round distance for the fourth time while Ajetovic (16-2-1 and 8 KOs) entered uncharted territory having never previously gone beyond 10.
Ajetovic, 27, with the word "Scouse" blazed across his waistband, produced the occasional flurry and some good one-off shots but Geale was the busier boxer throughout.
The champion piled up the points with his left jab and quick combinations inside.
Geale shaded the first round behind his jab and despite a quick flurry from Ajetovic at the start of the second the champion was busy enough to take that too.
Ajetovic became visibly more confident and dropped his hands and mugged at Geale in the third and again he started the third and fourth rounds with all guns blazing.
But Geale continued to score later on in each session with his jab and some fast-handed combinations, catching the eye of the judges.
Ajetovic again landed some good right hand punches in the fifth, but he continued to fight in spurts while Geale maintained a decent workrate throughout the second half of the contest.
At the end of the day the adopted Scouser was simply not landing enough blows to turn the tide in his favour.

That is quite simply rubbish. I thought that 117-111 flattered Geard.
