Im hearing it will be in Vegas. JC will have another match at the beginning of the year against Jones Jr or Tarver at the Millenium as a send off.
Man Pavlik vs Calzaghe is huge, Joe is gonna beat him up for 12 rounds though. I have no idea why Arum is making this fight.

It does seem a stupid move for Arum...great move for the fans though; what a fight this one could be.

I think Arum wants to make some big money rather than see the coffers barely fill up against the Rubios and Locketts...he probably reasons that Pavlik won't be Lacyed and will still retain his popularity and marketability even if he loses to Calzaghe.
Imho.

I'd take Kessler over Pavlik at 168.

I think Calzaghe would school Pavlik, as long as he doesn't get dragged into a toe to toe war.
When he boxes like he did in rounds 5-11 of the Kessler fight he is at his best, toying with the opponent coming forward.

I seriously think this is an easy fight for Joe.
Any guy whose main weapon is the jab is going to struggle against Calzaghe, because he takes it away from any opponent.
Pavlik will have to come with something new to win this.

i still think pavlik is underated, he has big power, good chin, puts his punches together nicely, punches straight a lot of the time, good stamina. tough fight for joe imo.

I agree
Add to that he is a huge MW, good recovery powers, good finisher

I'd make Calzaghe small favourite. I'd pick Kesler over Pavlik at 168 too.
I just pished myself reading this on the general forum

I agree completely. Calzaghe isn't much better than Gary Lockett at this point. If a senior citizen dropped him in his last fight, a first round Pavlik blowout would be very likely.

Why all the love for Pavlik all of a sudden?
When this question was first posed post Taylor 1 few, if any, thought that Pavlik had a prayer and since then, Calzaghe has whooped both Kessler and the Old Bastard.

That is funny. Retards get carried away with one fight against a overmatched british level fighter.
I like Kelly and picked him to beat Taylor but i dont rate him any higher after that mismatch at the weekend.
Calzaghe would beat Pavlik by UD.

Kelly would seriously look like an amateur against the likes of Calzaghe.
Kelly's another Gatti waiting to happen, he's seriously not hard to hit and likes to slug It out. When he fights above middleweight, he will have a problem when they can brawl back.

yep exactly how i see it, take away pavliks jab and a target (with constant movement in and out style) pavlik is going to struggle to hit joe clean. To date pavlik has not shown us he can handle a fighter who is so adapable/skilled/movement like a joe calzaghe. but joe has faught fighters like pavlik before -and won so advatage joe. i see a UD or SD calzaghe

A[Only registered and activated users can see links] thats good, nowt stranger than folk.....
I dont think his movement and speed are lacking Benj, his speed is dropping but its still Elite level, it was damned hard to see them against B-Hop due to the style though, but look at Kessler fight, his jab was much faster than Kesslers and his movement was spot on (when he focused on it and not got caught up in being Macho), he negated Kesslers power and when he did get caught he adjusted with movement so that the same shot wouldnt catch him again....
But Benj how long can it be, maybe thats why he hanging them up, he cant hang on to that speed for much longer though....

I hate the way some posters on the General Forum keep on going on about Pavlik's power, and how Joe will not be able to take it; thats crap. The way I see it Joe is the superior boxer, has a higher work-rate and a better chin.
As far as the whole power thing is concerned, many people seem to be ignoring the fact that, depite the lanky frame (which looks like it could take the extra weight), Pavlik is still moving up from MW for this fight, while Joe is a career SMW who is moving down after having a bout at LHW. While Pavlik may still retain the better one-punch power, Joe C should be the naturally stronger of the two.

I think Pavlik JC will be a great fight one i think I will make the trip over for. I dont think this is a easy fight for Joe.I do agree Pavlik is over hyped but he is game as hell with a very strong will to win. I think at smw he becomes stronger.

Joe's taken harder punches from fighters who hit harder than Pavlik.
American logic Is always the other guy has too much power normally as there one dimensional analysts some of them.
Even the boxrec British guys have fallen Into the Pavlik hype, Joe once again will have to show them the light like he did with many contenders who was favoured to win.

We all like Pavlik, but at the end of the day it's an under-rated Brit v an over-rated Septic. And if Calzghe being a trog botheres you, remember that he was born in Hammersmith:D

If this comes off I'll be forced to make my second trip to vegas in a year it's too big to miss.
I see know brains going into people picking Kelly over Joe. all I hear is, dude if Ol Hop dropped him pavlik will KO him easy, well inreality that is the most short sighted reasoning i have ever come across, but it isnt a rare comment when people try and 'evaluate' his downfall.
Calzaghe - Pavlik is the biggest fight that can be made in th eWorld right now after Mayweather - Cotto, but i think a comfortable win for JC is highly likely but even when Joe does win, some joke arse excuse will be brought up which everyone will latch on to and Joe will be a euro bum again.
Calzaghe UD Pavlik.
