View Full Version : Thaxton vacates British Lightweight Title.
According to BBN, Jon Thaxton has relinquished the British Lightweight Title.
Apparently he has been named as a mandatory challenger for the European Lightweight Title vacated by Yuri Romanov.
Lee Meager & John Murray will now fight for the British Title on 11th July 2008.
John Murray has vacated the English Title so John Fewkes and Martin Gethin will contest that one before end October 2008.

I like Thaxton, and would like him to have a decent payday before retirement over the next year or so.
Does he hold the Lonsdale belt outright?

I'd love Thaxton to get a decent payday too - deserves it after all the years he has dedicated to the sport.
As far as I'm aware, he needed to beat Lee Meager in his next defence of the Title to claim the Lonsdale Belt outright - that was originally scheduled for end July but he suffered a really bad cut against Romanov making that timescale look unlikely.

Good shout, but it will be a while, if ever, that Khan gets in with a one punch KO artist anywhere near their prime, let alone a puncher.
Thaxton could be considered either.......

Yes I would - I prefer to say that Romanov is just a step in front, and is in his prime now. He wasn't when he lost to Graham Earl, who in my opinion would be schooled by Thaxton.

fair enough.:good
hmm. maybe he doesn't think he has many fights left in him.
shame as i'd of liked to of seen how murray faired against him. oh well, meager is a step up for murray as well.
I'm just pleased Murray has got a shot at the British Title after the disappointment of Fewkes pulling out of their fight at short notice.

Thaxton vs Murray would be entertaining, but I would back Thaxton to win. Trouble with Thaxton is with this stupid switch hitting, sometimes it is overdone to a ridiculous extent - moving back and forth occasionally is fine but he tries to fool the judges into believing he is outboxing his opponent - perhaps all Ingle fighters work in this manner.....

Great opportunity for Murray to shine in this one - really hope he captures the British Title.

Is Thaxton Insane? He couldn't even reach In with his shots against Romanov to land anything clean.
Should of rematched Meager for his belt outright.

Murray's nothing special. I doubt he'd beat Fewkes

Shame Fewkes pulled out of their fight at such short notice recently....
