What are his chances?

Unlikely, based just off his resume he probably could with 3 big wins over Roy Jones jr and James Toney. But then one must remember that it was a DQ win in which Roy Jones was taking over the fight (knocking him down) and the wins against Toney were very close and at least one of the fights probably should have gone Toney's way.

I liked Montell Griffin, but I just don't think his resume would warrant him receiving enough support.
So no.

Montell beat to modern greats in James Toney and Roy Jones.
But styles make fights.
and overall James Toney and Roy Jones were greater fighters than Montell Griffin with much more successful careers.
Montell will be remebered for beating two greats - that dont make him a great or a hall of famer.
But them two greats he beat are known just for being great cos they were modern greats who just happened to suffer blips against a bogey man like Montell.
If a great in any sport suffers a shock loss to another guy - dont make that guy great - greatness is earned over consistent achoevement and the cousre of time.
Montell falls short of being a exceptional fighter.

No chance for him to get to the HOF.

His three best wins are not good enough to get him in.
A lot of people thought Toney was on the wrong side of a bad call in his bouts with Griffin. Griffin won a dq victory over Jones in a fight he may have been outpointing Jones. The problem is that Jones looked like he was taking that fight over, and just went stupid when he downed Griffin.
Griffin was a good contender, and having his name on your resume means something. You should be special to get in the hall of fame, and he is a bit short of that.
