ask many a boxing purist and fan and this one raises many questions but im gonna go with robinson slight edge over ali and here is why.... Ray Robinson 179 wins, 19 losses, 6 draws, 2 no contests, 109 KO.even Muhammed Ali referred to Sugar Ray as the greatest fighter ever... i dont think much effort has to go into who is 1 or 2 as this is my opinon as to why i think robinson is 1 but there is no argument that either one of these guys are 1 and 2 :good

Even Ali admitted the SRR was the best ever -- Ali even based his style on Robinson's. There's no reason to debate this anymore.

Ross, Armstrong, Canzi, Fitz, all have good reasons to be rank over Ali imo.

This isn't even close. Robinson is the best boxer. Robinson was well schooled. Ali was talented. Robinson had all of Ali's great qualities and talent, plus rock soild fundamentals.

Ray Robinson is the greatest p4p No. 1 ever. Ali is the greatest Heavyweight in my book though.

I'll take nothing from Ali, whom I consider the best heavy ever, but in all honesty, I don't know a hell of a lot of knowledgeable boxing people (well, NONE actually) that would rank Ali anywhere near second P4P all time. He simply doesn't merit it.

Top ten..........maybe. I've heard that. Might even be believeable, but not second.

Harry Greb was better than both of them, any true boxing purist will tell you that. Ali maybe makes the top 20 pound for pound fighters of all time, while robinson is easily top 5, usually 1 or 2.

Name 20 better boxers than Ali.

Name 5 better boxers than Sugar Ray Robinson.

Tell me how many times you've seen each of them...I bet they're prehistoric 19th century dinosaurs like Jack Dempsey and Harry Greb that no-one can truly analyse.

Sugar Ray Robinson is without doubt the best boxer in the history of the sport.
