In the fight against Whitaker he decided to go Southpaw against a Southpaw fighter. That isn't a very smart thing to do. Against Trinidad he ran away in the last three rounds and got a loss on his record when he probaly could have KO'd Trinidad in the 12th. In the fight against Floyd he was succesful using his jab but he stopped. After the fight he said "this wasn't the night of the jab". My question to you all is De La Hoya a dumb boxer?

everyone swings on his nuts so its hard to get a real answer, but imo based on the evidence you brought out, yes, but hes also brilliant in many other ways in many other fights. but his loses deffinatly showed lack of brain.

Dumb boxer no! Every fighter makes poor choices from time to time, ie Hopkins not fighting a full three mins each round against Taylor in both fights, trying to win by fighting the last thirty seconds of each round.
you want to know who a dumb boxer is? James Toney, doesnt train eats fried chicken, uses steriods becuase he is to lazy to train, that is a stupid fighter, its the man who does have talent and potential but goes out of his way to fuck it all off.

switching southpaw vs a southpaw isnt stupid. gives him something new to worry about. specially sinces hes left handed anyways.

He gave up on the jab because there were countering oppertunites almost every time he threw it. He proved himself to be a very smart fighter by abandoning a shot that was leaving him a wee bit vulnerable, and going with shorter shots that he hoped would win him rounds via flurries.

ODH was not trying to box floyd ...he was using his jab to get floyd backed against the ropes..that is why it was effective....if he just used it regularly it would not of been effective. He could not connect anything off of it. He could of bust floyd up with it but a jab cant win a fight against a guy hitting you with uppercuts and hooks and str8 right hands.....

You could point to bad decisions in most of his loses

Floyd snaps his head back when a guy jabs at him so all of those times you seen floyd snap his head back the jab was not landing...but ODH got him flush a few good times..bust floyds nose...But floyd was countering odh like crazy.

rewatch the fight, floyd didnt even counter once on the jab, it was his best weapon and he abandonned it

That's not what I saw at all, I saw Mayweather constantly creeping out of the jab, is totally unavailable for the next shot.

This goes against Oscar's plan - to win rounds by making the action as messy as possible and by scoring with flurries. If you can't score behind the jab it becomes a single shot and Oscar was never - ever - going to out pot-shot Floyd. Ever.

"Didn't counter it once".

You sure?

Turning southpaw against one of the greatest southpaw boxers in the history of this sport was remarkably stupid, yes.

yeah I am sure and I just rewatched it again, I was right, not a counter hitting oscar not once, oscar proly hurt his left shoulder but still that ja was killing and he let it go, he could had banged the body after the jab and double it up but didnt

If this is the case, you have exposed Oscar as a truly stupid fighter.

Most boxers are stupid, when they are try show their excellency or something like that. They often show that, when they are wounded..

Oscar is a smart fighter, but he is somewhat limited. He doesnt possess a full arsenal of punches. His jab is ok, when he uses, but his main punch is a lefthook, everything else is above average.
