Following his 6th round retirement loss to Juan Ruiz, Wayne has decided to call it a day.

Here's hoping he keeps to his word. Having grabbed the microphone after last nights defeat Wayne announced to the crowd that it was all over for him now. However he did go on to say "I think this is my last fight" which ends up not sounding as definite as one would want.

He has been involved in some titanic tussles down the years, and always gave value for money, but recently his bouts had become a bit too painful, not just physical painful for Wayne but also mentally painful for the audience. The fights with Scott Harrison and Larios II were quite sickening spectacles to be honest.

Wayne, retire now and stay retired. You have shown yourself to be a true warrior, and have nothing left to prove.

I think we all would like to thank him for the memories and to say good luck in the future.

A short post but you've summed things up perfectly there .
I think he could be a very good trainer , his fighters would always be in amazing shape anyway .

He's trained Liberado Andrade , Enrique Ornelas and Alex Arthur in the past so I don't think he'll find it too hard to attract decent name fighters .

Sad end... but he really needs to get out now - he's got so much to be proud of. He really knows his stuff and would make a gr8 trainer. If he can pass on 10% of what Eddie Futch taught him....

He is a true warrior and sportsman.

In hindsight it has been downhill for him since the Harrison fight.

Good bloke and should give us a few more decent nights by training fighters.

Im just wondering, was McCullough still doing that silly high protein diet when he lost?

Reason I ask is I am sure Wayne said he was doing the low carb diet before he lost to larios, & when I heard that, I couldnt believe it. Especially when I heard Wayne saying he felt he had nothing left after a few rounds...

Then I hear hes winning his last fight, but had to retire on his stool cos once again, he had nothing left in the tank.

Every fighter needs his carbs, & as Wayne is such a serious trainer I could imagine him not taking enough carbs in so he could maintain his weight, & as a result going into a fight with no energy or 'snap'

Sorry about the post, but Wayne has popped into ESB before, & its a question I would love to know the answer to. Its bugged me for ages.

Wayne had one Hell of a chin. At his peak he trained with Eddie Futch, a legend.

Glad he's retired, wish it'd come a little sooner but it can't be easy to do so.

Great warrior. The most painful fight i've ever seen was him against Harrison. Hope he sticks to his word.
